I'm from New Zealand and I've heard quite a few horrors stories about these motors.. People seem pretty polarized too, usually either loving them or absolutely hating them and wishing they bought something else. But I've heard at least one too many bad reports to consider owning one (Including a member of the CoastG wishing they could 'unbolt them'). Member of the local Coast guard told me the brands they rarely, if ever tow in are Yammys + Hondas..

i think it's just ya luck there Irish man .. Etec's are GREAT motors ... if you blew the piston .. then you did something wrong .. maybe you did get a lemon .. that happens, i hope ya did ... but all is well that ends well..and did it end well ? or did you now know that you did something wrong?...seems like anyone who comments on this you think they are from Etec, i know how ya feel, my wow account got hacked and i thought it was people in my guild but, it turns up that china hacked me Tru story

Aftersales Rep EMEA - Evinrude and Can-Am Spyder. He has engine report etc. Apparenlty I "just got a lemon". It might also interest you to hear that he also stated that a similar catastrophic failure can happen if you run out of fuel. Obviously another great design feature.
Have checked your motor Model & Serial number through Dealerport. The motor was purchased in 2006 with a 2 year warranty. It has been registered at different time under 2 seperate names. Original in the UK and also in Ireland. There are absolutely NO WARRANTY claims registered to this motor thru EVINRUDE. Please go to etecownersgroup website and tell us everything. @LIQUIDNIRVANA It's great that you're wanting to get to the bottom of all of this and sort out the facts with research about his Evinrude E-Tec. If he bought it brand new with a warranty that's one thing, but if he bought it used with two other previous owners, well that's another. Thank you for investigating this matter! Hopefully he will contact you with more info!
People shouldnt post misleading videos like this acting like only& all evinrudes have this problem. cuz my neighbor had twin 300 opti's (new) on his 28 footer and both powerheads blown after 5 weeks within 4 days of each other. he repowered with 300 etecs and is pushing the boat to 72 every weekend without any problem and are calling them gods greatest gift to boaters. then another friend of mine had a 150 yamaha on his waler and had to get new gears 4x's in 6 months, now he's runnin etec !
@hognissxxx Another good Evinrude agent. Keep up the good work, but maybe more should be done on customer care and design. How many negative comments have you posted on the Evinrude posts? This is not acceptable for any product. Try your car being worthless after two thousand miles and the manufacturer not caring, they would investigate the cause and sort it out, otherwise they would be out of business.
my 2011 30 hp etec forward controls has done nothing but let me down to not happy only done 9 hrs keeps cuting out and stop pumping water dont bleve everthing on the internet i did its been back to the dealer three times only had it on the water twice

I have e-tec and put a lot of salt water hours on it, I mean a lot!!
Bought it new in 2008 with 5 years warranty, still on it..
Never ever had a problem with it.. I am no e-tec agent at all.
I hope it'll be like this for another 5 years.. Hate problematic outboards...
