This is when Genesis was at their best, when it was the full band. Not the crap later on. Peter Gabriel and Stephen Hackett were the best. I love early Genesis so much better than later Genesis.
@Falconis1 I don't think this is the remaster. I'm nearly positive the version of 'Supper's Ready' uploaded by our benevolent RakyMaky is the original track; I believe the whole album -- and, by extension, this version of WOTS -- is of the original sound.
that intro is just awesome. same with the beginning of the lamb and eleventh earl of mar. catchy as McCartney, beautiful as Mozart and as creative as God.

Whether or not you liked the direction that Genesis took - and I do prefer the period 1970 to 1977 - I think the band deserve massive credit for constantly adding to their music rather than repeating it, moving it on and winning a new audience. It's far too easy to knock the Genesis of the period after 1978 for being too commercial, too popular. There was still great music to be had in this period. And they were always good value in concert.
Okay, to the Phil Collins bashers: Have you HEARD what Yes, Jethro Tull and so on were doing by the early 80s?
If anything, Collins (and Banks and Rutherford) deserves some credit for staying ambitious a bit longer than most of the other progressive rockers. (King Crimson excepted. And Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett in their solo careers, of course.)
Peter sings great on this. Tony and Mikes lyrics fit perfectly. Foxtrot did not introduce me to Genesis, it simply got me hooked on the band, and by the way that is in no way a complaint.
I use to say that Phil Collins did the same to Genesis as Yoko Ono did to Beatles. Sometimes I wonder what would it have been of Genesis if one of the tiny heads cricketed on "Nursery Crime" cover was Mr. Collins'...
@cristinakok i don't think they would have been near as good because phil collins plays with a really unique sounding style that i think added alot to the rythm section of genesis songs.
Now this IS Genesis. Peter's wonderful singing, Hackett's unique sound in the guitar breaks, Tony's fantastic keyboard runs. Mike's great basswork and finally Mr Philip Collins sitting very safetly behind the drum kit doing what he does best and not fucking it up. They should have glued him to the drum seat in 1974 when Peter was leaving to stop Phil from becoming front man. Great Song, Great Album. My Third favourite album of all time.
Only Peter Gabriel can write songs like about alien invaders,monsters,and strange creatures and almost convince you he is completely sane while doing it.
