@911exero I have owned both. Now a days, the M3 is no more luxurious than a Ford Focus or a well equipped Nissan. The M3 is no more reliable than a Corvette and the repairs are 3x more expensive. It is just a status symbol and nowhere near the value that a Corvette is for a performance enthusiast. To each his own but after owning both, my recollection of the M3 is that it was entirely forgettable while I still miss the performance of the Chevy.

I currently have my buddies 2009 bmw m3 convertible for the week and raced my friends 2008 red vette...We did a 60 or so punch which was horrible for me since the m3 powerband was in 2nd gear at 6k and had to shift immediately...needless to say he pulled about 5-6 cars on me...We shut it down when I shifted into 4th...the m3 drop is slow & needs mods to compete

The ZR1 used a roll cage, and lighter seats. Also, noboby has been able to come close to GM's claims. The 7:38 sec lap by sport auto is the closest anyone has come. Now im not accusing GM of cheating but it's pretty obvious that something doesn't add up.

The Zr1 came straight from the factory, it had street tires,and the ZR1 certainly did not have a roll cage. Those were rumors spread by fanboys, just google it.

@medz91xc Well GM's says they used "non stock saftey equipment" I've seen a few website that claim a roll cage was used so im not just speculating. It may explain why they are so much faster than anyone else as a roll cage can increase the handling capabilities of a car by increasing it's structural rigidity. GM did tons of laps at the ring, much more than anyone else. Hell i don't think ferrari, lambo, mercedes ect.. have even attempted production laps so comparing GM's laps to those done
@aieljose Thats not true. GM did NOT do tons of laps in the ring. Where did you get that info from? The only manufacture that did tons of laps in the ring is Nissan with their GTR. GM spent a few days here and there with just a GM engineer driving the car. Not a race car driver like the other manufacturers use to test their cars. And yes Ferrari, Lambo, and Merc ALL did plenty of laps with their stock vehicles. Its all documented. Please do some research before posting crap like that.

Again...the Veyron is not a track car. It's purpose was to be the fastest straight line cruiser, most luxurious, and technologically advance car to ever be built. Volkswagen can hardly car less that a Lamborghini is just slightly faster in a circuit when that was never their aim.

German car producers concentrate on a "complete" car that can handle its power and bring it to the road effectively so that the lap times would always be better than e.g. that of a chevy car (i am not a hater of Am. cars, they also have their attraction, but, you wanted to know it..:)

I got beat by some Mustangs and many Corvettes and moreso Grand Nationals (Buick). The neat part is my Camaro cost many thousands less to buy and operate and still got amazing fuel mileage. Of course I have never seen a real street BMW that "performed" either. Still costs a lot though.

Corvette owners have been telling people for years that the GTR times and Porsche times and Viper times were achieved with R compound tires and that Corvette would best them all with comparable tires. Both Z's did.

i have an 2007 c6 diablo tuned..its like a marriage at first its fun then blah..only time i enjoy it is when the pedal is to the ground.even thou its fully loaded.its not a great driving experience over all..but its just stupid fast.spring leaf..makes the driving even terrible.handling average.itest drove a 08 m3 and it may not be fast as the vette but 500pd more heavier and shorter left u hvae more space in m3 somehow and better driving experience all around.and corvette 16/25epa.is a lie

@911exero I have owned both. Now a days, the M3 is no more luxurious than a Ford Focus or a well equipped Nissan. The M3 is no more reliable than a Corvette and the repairs are 3x more expensive. It is just a status symbol and nowhere near the value that a Corvette is for a performance enthusiast. To each his own but after owning both, my recollection of the M3 is that it was entirely forgettable while I still miss the performance of the Chevy.

I currently have my buddies 2009 bmw m3 convertible for the week and raced my friends 2008 red vette...We did a 60 or so punch which was horrible for me since the m3 powerband was in 2nd gear at 6k and had to shift immediately...needless to say he pulled about 5-6 cars on me...We shut it down when I shifted into 4th...the m3 drop is slow & needs mods to compete

The C6 Corvettes are the fastest things on a track, faster than every Ferrari even. Only a few production cars in the world are faster than a Z06, and fewer still are faster than a ZR1.

The ZR1 used a roll cage, and lighter seats. Also, noboby has been able to come close to GM's claims. The 7:38 sec lap by sport auto is the closest anyone has come. Now im not accusing GM of cheating but it's pretty obvious that something doesn't add up.

It may explain why they are so much faster than anyone else as a roll cage can increase the handling capabilities of a car by increasing it's structural rigidity. GM did tons of laps at the ring, much more than anyone else. Hell i don't think ferrari, lambo, mercedes ect.. have even attempted production laps so comparing GM's laps to those done

@aieljose Thats not true. GM did NOT do tons of laps in the ring. Where did you get that info from? The only manufacture that did tons of laps in the ring is Nissan with their GTR. GM spent a few days here and there with just a GM engineer driving the car. Not a race car driver like the other manufacturers use to test their cars. And yes Ferrari, Lambo, and Merc ALL did plenty of laps with their stock vehicles. Its all documented. Please do some research before posting crap like that.

If you wanna talk about racing: other than F1, what races has Ferrari won more than Corvette? None. LeMans, Rolex at Daytona, 24 hrs of Nurgburgring, and etc. Corvettes have been kicking the shit out of everyone in GT2, GT3 and all of the above for the past 5 years.
If thats not impressive, I dont know what is.

@medz91xc all of those are useless facts that 90% of people driving the cars couldn't care less about. ide take a bmw m3 or m5 any day over a vette for many reasons. it has soul, comfort, feel, and a better handling/better balanced feel..... but respect of cars is good.

I never said I would take the Vette over the M3...my dad had had the E60 M5 and thats how I fell in love with M cars. I just dont like it when idiots driving an M3 or Merc C63 or pretty much any other luxury/performance car for that matter, say "Your car can only go fast in a straight line".
As the track times show, even the 2012 ZO6 has beaten every Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Aston Martin, and Lotus on the Nurgburgring.

Again...the Veyron is not a track car. It's purpose was to be the fastest straight line cruiser, most luxurious, and technologically advance car to ever be built. Volkswagen can hardly car less that a Lamborghini is just slightly faster in a circuit when that was never their aim.
But at the end of the day, the Aventador nor Veyron can touch the Vettes times on the Nurgburgring.That is what i'm saying.

I have my own C6 415HP vette :) , because i dont have a money for lambo . But in fact aventador is better i am realist . Please read more about aventador , and then we can talk about. But Vette ZR1 is really awesome car. Better than mighty GTR wchich i like too , and all shitty BMW ever produced. :)

BUT: crappy suspension, brakes, unbalanced, low-quality pieces of shit (like american STREET CARS, ) - On the race track your tractor labels and chevy unbalanced, tractionless heavy (i-can-win-in-a-straight-line-perhaps) car would fuck up as hell compared to bmws, audis, mercedes and even vws... WE CAN TAKE OUR (TUNED) CARS ON THE TRACK AND COME BACK WITH A SMILE ON THE FACE

@pbunyon2002 and, it is not hard for car engineerers to get over 1000hp out of a v8, v10, v12 and compete in a drag race. That is not the difficulty. German car producers concentrate on a "complete" car that can handle its power and bring it to the road effectively so that the lap times would always be better than e.g. that of a chevy car (i am not a hater of Am. cars, they also have their attraction, but, you wanted to know it..:)

@200208195 You blind? My old 1991 Camaro destroyed every BMW that dared challenge it and where I live there are tons of BMWs, but still more Camaros. I got beat by some Mustangs and many Corvettes and moreso Grand Nationals (Buick). The neat part is my Camaro cost many thousands less to buy and operate and still got amazing fuel mileage. Of course I have never seen a real street BMW that "performed" either. Still costs a lot though.

@200208195 You poor soul. For a few bucks a did a few cheap mods to the car. Even with a few hundred bucks into the car I still had about 1/3rd the cost of ownership of any bmw that challenged me. I feel sad that you haven't been afforded such an opportunity. And when it comes to cornering bmw is a no show again. I don't car the car nerds say. You should really concentrate on reality and experience not a bunch of magazine yahoos who hate America anyways. BMW are always lagging and always will.

BMWs are renowned for their handling, BMW Ms even more so. Until you drive one, you will not know. There is a reason Ford have strived to make the GT500 on par with the M3 - in a straight line and round a corner - and also the Cadillac CTS-V to the M5.
BMW were, and still are, the benchmark.

@kingssuck06 BMW F10 M5 ran 7:55 on the Nurburgring. Yes, it is the fastest 4 door sedan on the Nurburgring. Who won the 2010 Nurburgring 24 hour race? The BMW M3 GT2. I'm not sure if you know this, but BMW has not had an LMP racer since 2003 - therefore cannot outright win Le Mans (unless all the LMPs crash...)
That said, I should probably add to my comment what I intended by it: BMW were, and still are, the benchmark for daily drivers. Therefore, they most definitely are not "lagging"

@200208195 How wrong can you be...the Michelin tires are R compound ZP tires made for the ZR1 and Z06 and are absolutely street legal...and offered on each of these cars...I have seen the order sheets. I can't believe the ignorance of people when it comes to this kind of shit. Corvette owners have been telling people for years that the GTR times and Porsche times and Viper times were achieved with R compound tires and that Corvette would best them all with comparable tires. Both Z's did.

German engineering or EVEN Japanese engineering have always found a way to achieve plethora amounts of horsepower with low displacement engines.
