It is not filmed live, it is filmed months ahead of time. They are in the middle of filming Heroes vs. Villians when Russell had to leave the Heroes vs Villians to come to the reunion show/live finale. The finale is the only thing that is live. All of Foa Foa + the women + a few defectors who saw the writing on the wall was "the tribe" at this point.
