when I was 17-i saw Voivod and Kreator at the Omni in Oakland, Ca. damn what a show! it was great being a kid and a metal fan in the 80's early 90's in the Bay Area. used to see Metallica hanging out at the bar at a lot of the shows. Voivod fukin rules!

Jasons former band (before Metallica) was Flotsam and Jetsam which was a thrash metal band moving in the same genre like Voi Vod and many other. So they sure knew each other as many bands in thrash metal did back then. Voi Vod has always been called the Pink Floyd of Thrash metal and bands such as Metallica them self looked up to the bands experimental thrash metal.

In 05 Piggy, guitarrist and main riff writer,got cancer but kept recording riffs on his home studio during the chemo & hospital visits.Always creating.When he died there was enough riffs to make TWO albums for the rest of the band. "Katorz", released a year after he passed, and the last album "Infini", 2009.On Infini the original bassplayer Blacky joined the band again completing the true Voi-Vod sound.

Breaker from Calgary rules, but they're an underground Heavy Metal band from the 70's/80's. Begrime Exemious and Weapon, if you're into blackened metal stuff, from Edmonton. Random obscure thrash and punk bands that lived and died in the 80's.

But anyone that really got somewhere is definitely from the coasts. Which sucks, being in the cocaine wasteland of Edmonton myself.
