My manual states it wont accept HC cards yet my SDJ-1's have HC logos on front. I'm using Sandisk 2GB, Transcend, PNY and Maxstore 4GB non HC cards and regularly have the following problems. 1 - it doesnt always register the cards are inserted and can be all too time consuming to track up and 2 - during a live gig, the audio jogs forward, whilst the display suggests it hasnt moved. The only way I can stop it is to power down the unit for it to do it again later! Please can someone Help
I have the sdj1. When I bought my first couple of years ago. I soon found that although the logo sd-hc was on the machine it didn't play 'em. So upon receiving my complaint the shop updated my software to 18.21 then it did play 'em.
Just yesterday a mate of mine told me he'd bought a sdj1 with the software updated (naturally) to 20.22. Maybe I should tell him the cards that can be used by far exceed what I told him mine did. Geoff - gy4dbd@gmail.com
@AMAEntertainment01 It will not work as the SDJ-1 lists the TOTAL tracks, even if you put them into folders, although you can look for them two ways, by folders, or directly by track number it will only accept 999 tracks that to be honest are a lot of tracks for such a compact solution, you can use two SD cards at the same time so it's 999 x 2 and then if you really need to you can even swap cards, to be honest its more than enough, if you want more use a computer controller and a laptop.
I just acquired an sd i with the same marking on front panel and the firmware is what you said I try the hdsc card the way you descibe THanks for the info let you know how I get on been djing for years DJ John
Hi, WS - I'm a dealer for ADJ and can tell you there's no better company in the industry who takes care of their customers. From their web site:
Please note: Current SDJ1 models support High Capacity SD Cards (SDHC) and Standard SD Cards. Users that own SDJ1 model that only supports standard SD cards can upgrade their unit to support High Capacity SD Cards (SDHC). Please contact the American Audio Service Department to find out how to upgrade your unit: serviceatamericandjdotcom
I agree 100% with your comments on the support from ADJ. Its great to see that the dealer network are proud to shout that fact out as well. It can only add to the confidence for customers when looking at the brand for product.
wickedsounz, I have a question... just got my sdj1 today...love it.. anyways.. have you tried to put the files in folders and break them up into sections instead of just loading 999 in one file? i dont have a big enough card to try it yet.. give it a try and see what happens and let us all know if you could?..thanks . oh by the way i have the same unit as you have.. practice and enjoy..
Ok twice now while doing a gig, right in the middle of a song my sdj1 stops playing music and blurts out a loud annoying buzz tone and no buttons are functional. I must turn the unit off then back on. Anyone else have this problem. I use 4gb (not hc as my unit does not take these) Transcend cards. Please Help Thanks
Let me know what version of Firmware you have on your machine. If I have a newer version, I'll mail it to you. Just PM me with you mail address. Don;t post it here.
Hi Paul Damien here again. I have the newer version of firmware for the SDJ-1 it's V20.21 It was sent to me by ADJ Europe to see if it makes an improvement with the juming, but it hasn't. If you want me to e-mail it to you give me a shout on my youtube page: Damienidj
I've not had any problems with jumping tracks. It could be that your have some corrupt MP3's. There is software out there which will check the integrity of the MP3 files. Try running some through it to see if there are corrupt or damaged files on your cards.
These damaged files may play fine in software systems due to error checking which may not be on the SDJ-1.
Here's an interesting twist....I called American Audio yesterday after watching this video, and was going to pick up an SDJ-2 because it can read SDHC cards and has a USB port for flash drives. That means LOTS of music. The guy I spoke with told me that there will be an "upgrade" in the future for those of us that have an earlier version of the SDJ-1. So we will all be able to be able to use the SDHC cards.
Unfortunately, this trick will not work due to the way that the SDJ-1 reads the files.
You can only have a max of 999 tracks PER CARD.
The folders are used for fast access to grouped tracks inside the folder, it still counts the contents of the folder towards the total tracks on the cards.
Hi Paul, I am having trouble with the SDJ-1. It will jump to a random track on the card while gigging and sometimes freezes up. The only solution is to turn it off and on again, but the same thing will happen later in the night. It has the SDHC logo. I wonder should I only use SDHC cards with this machine because of the SDHC logo. I have switched the lock on my SD cards to LOCK before I play tonight, maybe it might have something to do with the jumping, I'll let you know how I get on. Thx Damien
Thanks for the info! Just unpacked my SDJ-1 two days ago and noticed the SDHC logo near my SD slots and was curious. I am THRILLED to be able to use SDHC cards. Thanks so much for posting your findings! 999!
You will find that the main cause is normally the unit being used to write to the card. I have been using SD cards since they first appeared and never had a corrupt file yet.
So far, the SDJ1 has played flawlessly from all the cards I have thown at it, bioth live and in tests, so I have full confidence in the unit.
I have always taken a back up for any unit I have used and this will not change.
also I'm looking at getting some cd decks at present, i shall hang fire till BPM, then you could possibly give me some advice and I shall make my purchase there ! :)
I have been picking up cards from eBay at varying prices. I now have mostly 2Gig cards but now I keep an eye out for 4 & 8 Gig. The 8Gb cards are SDHC.
The cards Matt are about £20-£40, but you can fit a hell of a lot on...I'm going to buy either a 500gb, or 1000gb external hard drive...good offers in Maplin.
The display is only capable of showing 999 so when the full card failed to load, I realised quite quickly the limit was 999.
I had actually had the card working earlier with a couple of tracks so I knew it worked before doing the video.
I assume that all SDJ-1's will work with the new firmware, it's just getting hold of it that is the stumbling block.....unless you know who can let you have it.....
Got my ticket for BPM, just gotta book the hotel now.
It does say very clearly on the ADJ website that the player only supports to SD cards up to 4GB.

I have the files in folders, it's designed to work that way. That is why there is the folder button on the unit.
You can still only load a maximum of 999 tracks.
If I get the time, I will put a video together to explain how the folder system works in practice, along with a few other tips.
Cheers,
Paul.

My version is 17.19, any idea of that version will work with SDHC cards?
RokDAWG1 3 years ago
You will need to check if the SD logo on the unit has HC on it as in the video.
It's not just to do with the Firmware.

The SD Cards can occasionly be unreliable...files can often corrupt/erase.
I wouldn't reccomend them as a primary source.

Ahh right on! You know, someone should do a video reguarding hotel sharing if people want to ease the cost a bit
briansredd 3 years ago
There are some people out there I would pay NOT to share a room with.
I will probably be staying at the local Travelodge. £39 per night.
There are usually quite a few of the UK DJ's that stay there so could be long night...
