  • 360p?????? so much for cameralabs!...sell expensive cams for 1,000's yet upload cheap videos!

  • @MrCOLTSR2 First of all I don't sell cameras or lenses, I review them independantly. As for the quality of this video, first of all, look at the date it was made: 2007. HD cameras were not widely available then, and I was only able to afford a standard definition camera. This video was uploaded in PAL resolution, so should be available at 480p. It's a problem with YouTube that it's only showing 360p. If you look at my latest videos, they are all in HD.

  • @cameralabs well said gordon ;o) He's just another youtube troll lol keep up the great work..Im getting a 5d mk2+24-105mm lens cant wait but my order is on back order so god only knows how long it will take jessops to send it ? ; /

  • very informative, thanks

  • Nice picture from Norway. It must be from Tromsø. Am I right?

  • @mrvesteraas Absolutely!

  • Comment removed

  • @ebin50 yes, any ef or ef-s lens will fit, but On a full frame you can only use the higher price range ef lenses.

  • You provide the best lens reviews around imho, cheers keep up!

  • Gordan, your doing a great job, I never regret watching your reviews.

    from Saudi Arabia.

  • why don't you get off my dick. i never set out to disturb anyones life. i just made a 12 word comment that got people rattled because its true. also i did not try to mess up anyones businiss or call anyone a dick. all i did was respond to people who felt the need to comment on me. in fact i have not responded to every thing because i feel i have already made my points clear. but if lightweight fruitcake internerds like yourself feel brave to challenge me then i enjoy responding with a bitchslap!

  • @zurijohn never started trouble never acted macho just suggested they answer someone's question.its a shame people have not got better things to do then attack me for no reason.its funny all these comments go on his site and have nothing to do with cameras . you are very clearly a "lightweight fruitcake internerd " and are rattled by what i said. i have nothing against CL and wish them the best i just think if they answered questions on YT i would respect them more.also letthemdefendthemselves!

  • @DEFRATTLE Quoting your previous statement, "if lightweight fruitcake internerds like yourself feel brave to challenge me then i enjoy responding with a bitchslap", that's a fairly mucho and slightly threatening thing to say. No one is "rattled" by what you've said - you're opinionated, rude and wrong.

It is pointless checking sample images on youtube videos as the resolution is limited.

Youtube is fantastic, but stills photography is best understood by looking at stills.

  • @zurijohn Dear John. It is nice you have started to talk about photos and not me.I am sorry that your life is so empty you feel the need to comb my comments for flaws and holes. Maybe you should find a new hobby take up line dancing or join the special olympics. As for me bitch slapping people like you this is purely verbal and meant as a joke if you feel threatened by a few words on a screen SEEK HELP ! I would say more but i have a life and things to do may i suggest you do the same ,if you can

  • @zurijohn hahahahahahahahahahahahaha !

  • why oh why cant there be a 24-70mm f2.8 L IS?!

  • @davidmorefield at f4 AND IS you could keep the shutter open longer. Of course the blurring effect is not as dramatic, but I don't think this is this lens's purpose.

  • how its performing with low lights condition ?

  • would this be a good choice for 60d? Thank you.

  • hello mr. gordon, without considering the 18 megapixel of 7d and the 21 megapixel of 5d mkII do you think this lens will still perform almost equally as 5d mkll if its mounted on 7d? thanks

  • Great and informative video mang!

  • great review

  • Cameralab, shld i get 24-70 or 24-105 for my 500d canon ?

because i found there's no IS for the 24-70, but i love for the super 2.8f...

    so which one better ?

    sorry... really need ur help

  • Feel free to discuss this on the cameralabs forum!

  • @cameralabs instead of promoting your forum why don't you just answer the question.

  • @DEFRATTLE Because I dont have time to answer hundreds of questions on YT and FB. I have a forum setup for any questions at my site. If you want help from us, go there. If not, I can't help.

  • @cameralabs yet you have time to answer me. maybe its not a matter of time but a matter of you wanting people to go to your site. you see you could have answered him but you would rather waist your time saying "come to my forum " because thats why you are on youtube TO SELL STUFF FROM YOUR SITE.. i do not mind people selling stuff its just be honest about it instead of claiming it is a time issue.

  • @DEFRATTLE Of course I want people to visit my site! If they don't, I go out of business and can't fo any more reviews. I don't hide this fact. I also have a forum set up to help people on my site, so prefer to answer questions there than here. If you're not happy with that arrangement, then feel free to unsubscribe from my channel and ask on other channels.

  • @joe2black1 your life must be so amazing that you go on youtube to correct peoples spelling.

you see your feeble attempt to insult me is in fact just an insult you gave to yourself .

in fact your probably not even a real person and just an account created by camera labs in a vain attempt to gain some support for their feeble excuses.

  • @DEFRATTLE I wish I had the time to create extra accounts to support my feeble excuses.

  • @cameralabs hey man don't waste those wishes on things like youtube accounts.

save em for sunny days and peace on earth. one love.

  • @DEFRATTLE you realize he has no obligation to answer you back right? That's the point of the website

  • @DEFRATTLE Why don't you go to the forum, it's really a wealth of information.

  • @MrKnnknn because i have a life.

  • @iactmonkey I would recommend the efs17-55 or 15-85 if you need the extra reach

  • is it compatible w/ canon eos 1000d?

  • yes, but the focal length would be mutliplied by 1.6x.

  • I'd like to add that the Focal length is always multiplied by 1.6x with aps-c cameras like EOS 1000D/300D-500D/10D-50D/7D/D60 etc. ;-)

  • thanks..

and for your opinion what kind of lens should i buy for canon eos 1000d as my very first lens. i like L series. but its so expensive..

anyways im new 2 d world of photography

i always visit your site =)

  • Informative video. Thanks.

  • re: the light fall-off - is it as pronounced on a cropped body (i.e. 40/50D)?

  • It's less so - I've actually got results showing this at cameralabs . com - go to the lenses section and check out the results pages for the two reviews on this lens.

  • Wonderful - thanks Gordon/Cameralabs!

  • well done

  • Hi there Gordan. Brilliant review again.

Quick question; do you have flickr or a personal website other than cameralabs in which we could view your photos?

    Thanks, Luke

  • Hi Luke, not yet, but I hope to do more with flickr in the future... I occassionally post some photos on the cameralabs fourm though...

  • Thanks for the great review, and for showing the test shots with with the full-frame 5D and cropped-frame 400D; very helpful! I'll be visiting your site now :-)

  • Brilliant presentation- very informative.

  • which one should I go with 1.6 crop body, 24-105 or 24-70?

  • Depeds if you want the longer range and IS of the 24-105mm or the faster f2.8 aperture of the 24-70mm. I've compared them both in the review which goes with this video at cameralabs - just click the link to the right of the video window above...

  • Thank you for your imf. I just got the canon 5D I love it but I am new in Digital ,what do you think for studio head shots?I don't want to bay every lens that is there ,my cash flow is small.Big thanks ,L.H.

  • I'd get the 85mm f1.8 - great portrait lens for the 5D. Feel free to discuss further in the Canon section of the cameralabs forums!

  • hehe i think the photos are from Tromsø in Norway.. is that right? I can recognize the bridge in the background :P

  • Well spotted! Yes that photo was from Tromsø!

  • Beautiful city, but the bridge is really a long walk in the winter-cold weather :P

Im thinking of buying the 5D soon, the price is sinking and its a great opportunity to get a full-frame at an affordable price. What you think?

Keep up your great work at Cameralabs!

  • The 5D is still a great camera, but I wouldn't do anything until we know if there'll be a replacement announced at Photokina in just a few weeks. You should also check out the verdict and results pages of our Nikon D700 review at cameralabs . com for an up-to-date comparison.

  • Got myself a Nikon D300 instead ;) Im really pleased with it! A major upgrade from the Canon 400D !! I really like the Live-view and the complex focusing options in live-view :) I found out i didnt have the budget for so expensive objects that the full-frame camera demands. Thanx for your reply!

  • Just wondering what you think of the combo of 40D, 17-40 f/4, and the 24-105 f/4?

My future dream is to add the 70-200 f/4 IS USM.

  • I think it sounds great, although if you can live without 40-70mm, you could skip the 24-105mm and go straight for the 70-200mm. Feel free to discuss this further in the Canon section on the cameralabs forum...

  • I want to have the overlap. 24mm on the cropframe body isn't wide enough, and the 17-40 (27-64) is not too wide. I just tried the 24-105, and it's a keeper.

You have a great website, please keep up the good work.

  • If you're definitely sticking with the 24-105mm, then I'd consider complementing it with the 10-22mm - true wide angle on your cropped body and a great quality lens. Albeit not full-frame compatible.

  • The 40D came with the 28-135, which is nowhere near wide enough for the 1.6 factor. The 17-40 is PERFECT for the wide end. Yesterday I received the 24-105, the next (as I understand it) of the F/4 set. For the long end I have the 75-300 3.5-5.6, in my dreams to be replaced by the 70-200IS USM, finishing out the F/4 family. Didn't I do my homework correctly?

  • If the ranges you've bought work for your style of photography, then yes, you've done your homework! It's all about personal choices. I like the 17-40mm, but if I had a cropped body and wasn't going full-frame in the future, then I'd pair the 24-105mm with the 10-22mm - but that's just my personal choice. You've still got yourself some great lenses there, which will all work on a full frame body if you decide to upgrade.

  • Great Video - please keep up the good work !

  • Hi, First let me start by saying that you are doing a great great job. Agter watching your review I bought my self a Canon xti 400D. I really love the camera. I have one question though... how do you get all these camera's and lense for your reivew??? Did you buy all these?

  • Thanks! As a recognised publication, the manufacturers lend Cameralabs equipment to review - just like magazines.

  • Hi would you know if Canon will soon release a replacement for the 5D?

  • It is almost known they will not. Not this year. One of the presenters on Warsaw EOS days few months ago saids, they will not release a replacement for 5D, because 5D is one of the best selling product of Canon. It has no eqivalent in competition, so they don't need to produce new FF camera in this size and prise. Eh... too bad :(

  • Hmmm, I'm not sure I'd agree... I think there *might* be a 5D replacement at this year's Photokina show in September... but then many of us thought there'd be a new one at PMA in January!

  • I went to PMA only for that xD big disappointment!

  • Hi Gordon, can't seem to find your review using a cropped frame camera... about to buy an EF 24-105mm for my 40D. Is there anything else I've got to consider bar the focal length with my 40D. For eg. can I still consider the lens an F4? Cheers, Rod.

  • Hi, very nice video.

    I wuold like to buy a 5D + BGE4 and a 24/70 f2,8L lens. Do you think that the 24/105 f4 is better?

    Let me know, thank you.

  • They're both great lenses - I actually compared the 24-105mm against the 24-70mm in our full review of the 24-105mm lens at the Cameralabs website - check it out!

  • And is it the same for the canon EF-S 17-85mm included with the 40d or is this number the effective focal range of the lens on a cropped sensor? Thanks for all your help. I intend to buy the 40d with the EF-S 17-85mm and an EF 24-105mm. do you think this is a reasonable setup to cover wide-angle to short telephoto

  • The same applies to ANY lens you attach. So the 17-85mm would also be multiplied by 1.6x. There's a full explanation in the lens guide at the cameralabs website.

  • Hi Gordan. Would you recommend this lens for the 40d? Thanks.

  • Yep, absolutely, so long as you don't need a really wide angle - remember the 40D will effectively multiply the focal length by 1.6x, so you'll have a 38-168mm lens. We actually used this lens for testing the 40D and you can see sample images in our EOS 40D review at the cameralabs site...

  • I cant find the review with this lens for the XTi

  • Good point! We've not done it yet, but the lens works great on an XTi and to give you an idea, check out the Gallery on our 40D review at the Cameralabs site - we used this lens for it. And the best pro flash is the Canon 580 EX II. Any other Qs, feel free to post on the Cameralabs forum!

  • Starters question...will this lens go on a 400D XTi? And what is the best pro flash that can work on that body? Cheers.

  • Hi Gordon, does the 5D have a built in flash

  • Sadly it does not. You will need to buy a separate flashgun for it if you want a flash.

  • This review convinced me to purchase the 24-105. And I'm not disappointed, this is one hell of a lens. Thanks, Gordon!

  • gordon u look like sting :)

and sting's real name is gordon :D

  • You never see us in the same place at the same time either! Roooooxanne!

  • heheheh :D

i also want you to know u even help photographers here in my country "turkey" :)

  • God I want that 5D...

  • Hey Gordon, can you review on EF 24-70mm f2.8 lens? I'd like to know what's the pros and cons about this lens regarding to it's price.

    Thank you.

  • I won't be doing a separate review of this lens, but if you go to our 24-105mm review at the Cameralabs website, you'll see results from it compared to the 24-105mm.

  • ok then i hav a question. Are 24-70mm lens's images sharp enough without the image stabilization? bcause it seems like doesnt have IS like 24-105mm but prices are higher. so I just wanted to know what makes 24-70mm so special.

  • Yep, they are very sharp so long as the shutter speed is fast enough to freeze any motion or camera shake. What makes the 24-70mm f2.8 so special is the f2.8 aperture. If you don't need it, go for the 24-105mm...

  • OH Gordon! Thanks you very much. thank to your review I did the right choose and I bought the 24-105 lens instead of the 17-55.

    B.R

  • Glad I could help! Did you also see the full review at the Cameralabs website? Be great to hear what you think of the lens at the Cameralabs forum too!

  • You definitely own that 5D

  • he couldn't seem to get enough praise in for that 5D...

  • hey thx for the review! i own a 350D and planning to get this lens at the end of the year! im so excited =D

wish i could have a 5D someday though lol

  • This lens is still a great choice for EF-S bodies like the 350D and 400D - in fact we'll be doing a whole new review and video tour for this lens when used with these bodies very soon!

  • Thank you! I am a relatively new owner of a Canon XTi. Your lens reviews are fantastically useful and will help me as I plan future purchases for my camera. This kind of entry really upgrades YouTube to a valuable educational tool. Thanks again.

    Ben

  • Hi Ben, glad to be of service! Remember these vidoes are just a small part of a bigger review which includes many samples and comparisons. Click the link to the right of the video window to visit the Cameralabs site and read the full the review...

  • Thanks for the great review - How about a review of the Leica M8? :-)

  • Hmmm, maybe in the future!

  • Very good video gordon as always thanks..:) !!

  • all right, thanks i shall take a look

  • Gordon, my man, appreciate the videos. but that being said, does nikon or nikkor make a lens somewhere in the 24-105mm range like this? I need a hyrbrid telescopic lens.

  • Hi dadhilman, Nikkor does a 24-120mm with VR, but on a Nikon DSLR, this will have a range of 36-180mm. The closest Nikkor super-zoom with wide angle on a DSLR is the 18-200mm which is equivalent to 27-300mm - we've got a video and full review of this lens.

  • Thanks for your comments everyone! The video and review of the 24-105mm with a 400D / XTi will be coming soon... PS - don't forget you can see our full review of this lens by clicking the link to the right of the video window!

  • Very nice review Gordon. Thanks!

  • I finally get my 5D lense review, woop!

    Thanks Gordon, keep it up.

  • this is a badass lens, very expensive tho
