  • Both "Ice Age - a Mammoth Christmas" and "Employee of the Month" from Dinosaurs brought me here. :D

  • Joy to the world is right

  • Thats just 2 days before my BIRTHDAY...11/27

  • By the way, where is the sound "dok dok dok" coming from?

  • @sweetxkhaos That's a noble ambition, sweetxkhaos. Here's hoping that your dream comes true.

  • "Sleigh Ride" is a popular light orchestral piece composed by Leroy Anderson. The composer had the original idea for the piece during a heat wave in July 1946; he finished the work in February 1948. Lyrics, about a person who would like to ride in a sleigh on a winter's day with another person, were written by Mitchell Parish in 1950. The orchestral version was first recorded in 1949 by Arthur Fiedler and The Boston Pops Orchestra.

  • @jobeLewOOH Fie on the lyrics! This instrumental is THE version.

Flutists unite! Alone we're elegant, together we conquer!

  • CHETROCKS12345

I play tuba to and the "easy" version is so easy and fun all there is is quarter notes and half note and it is in 4/4 cut time so it's like 2/4

  • AWESOME!!...btw, Trumpets RULE!!!

  • we play this arrangement every year. Very difficult to get it to sound this good.

  • I got the best part of all!.... WHIP CRACK!<3

  • my favorite part 1:44

  • awesome song. i play the tuba. i wish we would play this song

  • Percussion Essemble sound effin tight playin this song

  • 1:42 BRASS SECTION!!!!!!!

  • This song is my favorite Christmas song, and any Boston Pops version easily beats the next best version.

  • Love the xylophone player!

  • Clap on... Clap off! Love this song tho......

  • LOL.

I remember watching this about a year ago in band and thinking I was the only person who noticed the guy with the whip (clappers.) I love how the camera goes back to him every time, and at 1:10 the director is like "yessss" after he plays.

  • TROMBONES! 0:20

  • CELLOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Boston Pops, I like listening to especially at Christmas....I miss Arther Feidler though.

  • HAHA in the band i am in we do this exact same arrangement and I DO THE WHIP!!!! BEST JOB EVER :)

  • Very nice, what's that noise that's like a horse trotting along? clip clop clip clop, don't know what it is =P

  • @Johny40Se7en They're Temple Blocks - you can see them at the very end.

  • @Bass10 thanks.

  • I like how both of the top comments are about the guy with the whip LOL.

  • i love how starting at 1:44 they start to get funky with it.

  • @qwertyytrewq71 That is how its written hehe

  • @qwertyytrewq71 Nah, its part of the song itself.

  • @qwertyytrewq71 my band is playing this song for our christmas concert, and thats our favorite part <3 it's written that way, to give it a jazzy feel, by putting emphasis on the first and third beats

  • @qwertyytrewq71 what the brass section did there at that marked time is actually written in the original score. I've played this piece in band many times and we do the same thing there as well!

  • @qwertyytrewq71 : To me it sounds note-for-note just like the original Leroy Anderson version which dates to around 1952; dynamics, tempo, all of it. You just can't improve on such a classic!

  • @MrGLFan it sounds the same because it is, he wrote it for the pops

  • @qwertyytrewq71 I know it's part of the music ;) I had to play this with my orchestra and It was epic :P

  • @qwertyytrewq71 that section is called swing, not getting funcky

  • until now i always thought that last part involved a real live horse.

  • im playing this in my band and I get to play the slapstick or the "whip"

  • I assume you people referring to a "whip" mean the guy playing the slapstick. Where do you think slapstick comedy came from? ;)

  • it sound like a mouse trap slap :p

  • 2:07 double slap lol

  • i love the guy with the whip :p

  • i love this song =D

  • Love the little jazzy bit the trumpets have, and his whinny was awesome!

  • lol the guy with the slapstick

  • the guy with the whip makes the whole song

  • Best arrangement of this song EVER!

    The trumpeter nailed the whinny!

My daughter's H.S. band is playing this tonight. They do pretty well for kids, too.

@ Quarternote22 ....I'll bet he was bummed about only having that part; he does look bored lol.

  • @lynxie11 If I'm not mistaken, this is the original Anderson arrangement.

  • @MikeLombardoMusic Yes, that's the one! The Boston Pops have used this arrangement since Arthur Fiedler (that's as far back as my memory goes). There's a version with Keith Lockhart on Youtube as well.

  • This is the best version. Love the clopping horse hooves and the horse whinny at the end.

  • I Love Christmas!

  • It's Christmas time again folks :-)

  • were playin this in band, middle school, no wood blocks tho

  • 1:44 to 2:00. 'nuff said.

  • @heresmycardjoker they just added extra notes to the melody

  • @kittythingy713 i play clarinet and i like the part where the brass do it because it makes it sound more lively and nice.. we kind of dull it down.

  • @laurenmeepss wood blocks as in precussion

  • @kittythingy713 how was that related to what i said...

  • @laurenmeepss i dont kno i probably zoned out while typin that sorry

  • I played this arrangement in band in ninth and tenth grade! It's my favourite version. Then when I came to my new school last year all we had was a crappy easy boring version :/

  • where can i find this piece to download? the non live ones are slower!

  • this version of the song just makes me want to get up and dance dance dance!! merry christmas to all! ♥♥

  • I love this piece so much; it makes me happy every time I hear or play it. i have the piccolo part and I just love hearing it all go on around me....it's the best feeling in the world! My band plays it every year and it's one of my fav traditions :)

  • Well since my last favorite sleigh ride was among the half of my favorites that have been removed due to copyright infringements I suppose I'll fav this....

  • i love the look the guy gives his trumpet after the horse whinny..

  • <3333333333333333333333333333333333333

  • Pretty sure that this was writen by Leroy anderson.

  • @lampshademanworship it was, but nobody gives him credit...

  • John Williams sure can capture the essence of Christmas can't he? He sure did with his home alone and harry potter scores.

  • This is by far my favorite Christmas song.

  • YES JOHN WILLIAMS!!!!

  • one of the few christmas songs i can tolerate

  • I PLAY SLEIGHBELLS

  • lol the guy with the whip

  • @Quarternote22 makes a million dollars per lash lol

  • @Quarternote22 Oh that was so disappointing! I was expecting something much more Indiana Jones, with a bullwhip or something :p

  • @Quarternote22 sorry but were is the guy with the whip i didnt see him can you put a number down on when you see him

  • This my friends is the greatest band/orchestra arrangement ever ti be played

  • @Syouran1 Oh gheese. You have not seen anything, This is nice mind you but there is so much more..

  • i like the when the "whip" guy plays he tilts his head

  • My high school plays this song every year. This same arrangement.

I love it. It's so much fun. This year will be my 2nd time playing 1st violin.

  • when was this video taken?

  • Love the guy with the wooden blocks

  • So wonderful!!! <3

  • I played this in 7th grade. Not to hard

  • @cdawg145236 what arrangement

  • @cdawg145236

Probably not properly and not this well. And it is "too", you moron.

  • @cdawg145236 My little brother is going to play this in a concert. He's in seventh grade.

  • @cdawg145236 You sure you played Leroy Anderson's arrangement? Its a bit tougher than 7th grade material.

  • My high school orchestra is playing this combined with the band. I didn't know until this year that a trumpet is used to make the horse noise.

  • @BirthdayKeeper yea thats gonna be my solo in the song

  • omg my high school band is playing this exact arrangment

  • hahaha, i LOVE both of the top comments :)

  • One of my favourite Xmas songs and my favourite version. Merry Xmas to the 8 scrooges who dislike it.

  • my favorite song :3

  • Sure, technically it's a winter song and not a Christmas song, but it's a very cheerful and merry song, and Christmas makes the cold, bitter winter season into something joyful and happy. I mean, after New Year's, winter gets rather dull, but during Advent, you can always look forward to the joy of Christmas amidst the winter snow and ice. I think that's why it's played during Christmas, and there's really nothing wrong with that.

Only 129 days, 3 hours, and 20 minutes left!

  • Merci!

  • dit is een de ene kant super kut, maar aan de andere kant super fijn.

  • Ahhh the horse whinny :)

  • i love this song! i love hearing at christmas time when there's snow outside and i'm doing my christmas shopping :)

  • Like this If you think John Williams is THE MAN!

  • @coopjr10 the ironic part is this was not written by John WIlliams

  • @natesquared Look who's conducting.

  • @coopjr10 Does anyone have the best version of this song that comes from the Vienna Boys' Choir 2003 Christmas Album? First song on the album titled Sleigh Ride/Troika. Been searching Youtube every christmas since 2007 and can't find it. Is it about copyright?

  • It's just amazing what human beings can acomplish when working in armony!!!!!!!!!!!! Ruben Fierro.

  • I love holiday music!!!!! Go Baritones/Euphoniums!!! Brass all the way!!!!!!

  • John Williams seems to have fun...

  • Why even be minutely concerned that listening to this any other time of year besides Christmas, may be a little off the wall? It's great music! It's art! It's an historical treasure! It's awsome! Who cares!!!

  • Is it wrong that I listen to this well after Christmas?

  • @JPnintendofan Is it wrong I listen to this in March?! I love it!

  • @KeithAtHomeInBolton Of course not! :)

  • The guy at 1:07 has the best job in the world!!! :D

  • @pollytree I wouldn't mind getting paid for doing that...It is the best job!

  • You forgot to mention that JOHN WILLIAMS was conducting!!!

  • Hands down the BEST Christmas song ever.

  • I imagine myself doing this and it brings me joy. I was a great Trumpet player in my High School days an I wonder if I would have practiced more and pursued it if
