I am from England and follow the world wide occupy movement through independent sources. This is the most blatant form of propaganda i have ever seen. Don't believe what he says just because he knows the word asymptotic. He is either incredibly ignorant and not questioning any information he is being handed to read out, or hes corrupt. "We should be thanking Monsanto", really!? just take the time to look into Monsanto, watch any documentary and see if you agree.
Cheer up my Yankee brothers. Millions in your country understand what free markets are all about. The so called "Liberals" are only 20% or less of you.
Just keep spreading videos like these and you'll have your economy back in a few years.
Not sure about Australia, most of us are clueless and still want Govenrment to fix everything.
its true, they have been so coddled that they don't even understand how the real world works. I often think their anger stems from their refusal to accept the real world. It pisses them off because deep down they know their whole has been a lie and they cannot accept it.
Mr Whittle's argument here is the assertion that the Occupy Wall Street Movement is indicative of a privileged generation who have become spoiled to the point where they no longer understand the connection between "High Standard Of Living" and "Hard Work And Sacrifice". Understanding this connection is not rocket science & most adults get it pretty quickly.
Some people, though, attempt to dismiss the argument because Bill has an expensive (?) suit and cheap tie.
The ability to sit and bitch, moan and complain...is called The First Amendment. Let's not forget this just because we don't agree with them. In the 60's...folks like Bill were complaining about the damned cowards who were too chicken to stand up & fight like men. How it was a sign of the times...etc.
@mollybella7 Wouldn't that mean that you shouldn't complain about Mr. Whittle complaining about people complaining? And he's not exactly saying that they can't, just that they should do something about it and that they're being hypocritical.
I'd like to see Bill Whittle after he spends his 3 1/2 days in the woods. Something tells me his smug attitude and $5,000 suit won't help him fend off a bear or the angry neighbors.
Unfortunately, when the oil supply dwindles and fuel is too expensive to use for the production and transportation of agricultural food, we will not be able to turn to the local small farmer for our food because he was unable to compete with government subsidized corporations. Millions of people in this, one of the richest countries in the world will starve because they trusted and thanked the big food and oil corporations for all their "hard work."
I almost wholly agree with you bill but you come off as blaming them for being spoiled, and not well, the people who spoiled them.
It's easy to say that they became spoiled brats out of thin air but that's not true. Baby Boomers and Gen Xers were the ones who created this attitude. It's easy to blame the Occupy crowd for their mindset but people don't grow in a vaccum. They were raised by two generations of entitled pro-occupiers. Even now I try to discuss anything with my mom... continued
@nerdycub a baby boomer herself or anyone in my hometown from that generation their only reply is that they are entitled. They PAID for SS, they PAID for Medicare and if that money is gone because they spent it on other programs that too damn bad, they are still entitled too it so they have to print more! This mentality permeated everything they did including child care.
Again, it's easy to say the Occupiers are the problem because they are spoiled (and they are) but it only addresses a symptom
What a crock. Wall St. lobbyists & corporations funded Congressional campaigns & in return Congress rewrote the law allowing them to move jobs overseas, stop paying taxes entirely, merge into giant companies and then over-expand merely to satisfy investors' demands for growth. And because that wasn't enough greed, used predatory, risky investments that nearly destroyed the global economy and went crying to their bought Congress for a $7 trillion bailout. THAT'S what OWS is protesting, you idiot.
I'm 33 and I have roughed it a couple of days. We are talking Outhouses in a forrest (Thanks you Rancho Del Cielo!) for your toilet needs and it really does make you appreciate what you have more. I don't have an IPAD and DON'T NEED one. There is a lot that I don't have in my life, but I don't care because I know I have gotten it on my own merit and not handed to me because I feel that I am "entitled to it". Damn spoiled *CENSORED*! It was really fun to talk to people and play board games!
I don't think I've seen a more blatantly mis-informed, biased perspective on OWS. I'm surprised to say this, but I think Fox News could have provided a more objective perspective.
Sorry, Bill, but while your description may, in fact, describe some of the protesters, they do not represent what OWS is all about. The protest, at its heart, was in response to the $800 billion TARP bailout of Wall Street firms such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Lehman Bros. They were able to convince Congress to hand over billions of dollars by spending millions of dollars on lobbyists. It's not about student loans. It's about getting corporate money out of OUR government.
@emantabrizi It is about getting corrupt politicians out of power! Particularly Democratic ones. They are the ones who started and funded Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the heart of the whole fiasco ( these are gov't corps). It is all about giving money to people who can't pay it back, to assure that they vote for the Democrat Party.
@emantabrizi Please read what I wrote, "particularly, Democratic." assumes there are corrupt Republican ones. But, what is your point? In this case the corrupt Dem. ones benefit by getting votes from the "poor' who couldn't own homes through conventional mortgages. Just like they benefit from the support of rich "environmentalists" or crony capitalists like Warren Buffet by not building an oil pipeline. In all cases, the middle class suffers.
@ljowa ... Predatory lending was not a product of government. It was a product of UNREGULATED business. It's common sense, really. Subprime loans carry a higher interest rate. So, why wouldn't you, as a lender, want to hand-out more subprime loans? Nobody was forcing them to do it. They did it because it equaled higher profits.
Have always been self-made. Started with nothing, worked my ass off, moved up, started 3 businesses, each was successful and had at one time, 1500 employees. Between Obamacare and horrible gas prices (which Obama is behind by stopping drilling, pumping and his other stupid ideas) I have shut almost everything down. Feel bad for employees but after keeping them "up" for 2 years out of my pocket. It's over. Entrepreneurs don't have a chance these days. Now I have time for Grand-kids!
@oldfart387 ... You don't know what you're talking about. Obama hasn't "stopped drilling." In fact, domestic drilling has increased every year of his Presidency. Yes, there was a moratorium on NEW drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, but that did not stop existing platforms from drilling. Oh, and horrible gas prices? I paid $3.09 a gallon this evening. I paid over $4.00 a gallon in 2008...when Bush was President.
@emantabrizi Clueless wonder! Drilling is not the same as pumping. So even if they were drilling on existing platforms, so what? We can't get new oil from new drilling! But, Obama is willing to subsidized Brazil to do so! We can't even increase our oil supplies from Canada, because of him. So,Canada will sell it to the Chinese. Oh, and by the way I am paying $3.60 for gas under Obama, and it has never gotten as low under him as did under Bush, $2.60. I have paid more for everything under Obama.
@ljowa ... The Keystone pipeline wasn't going to increase oil supplies to the United States. Canada simply didn't want to build new refineries. They were going to export the raw product to Texas and then ship the finished product from the Gulf coast to other countries. Oh, and Canada already sells to the Chinese. That wasn't going to change just because we built a pipeline.
@emantabrizi What does building refineries have to do with it? Gasoline is more hazardous than oil to transport by any means. Canada would rather sell oil directly to the US, transported by pipe than by other means like trucks. Yes, we would get more of it.Of course, if we don't "want" more oil, then Canada will sell it to the Chinese as they said they would; the Canad. will have to transport it to the coast far from their centrally located sources. The US border is closer.
When I was growing up, we were taught to sacrifice and save for what we wanted (not necessarily needed). I remember being so hungry in school, I would eat food from the bathroom trash and run off to class full. These student loans not only paid for these kids college tuition, they used them to purchase cars, jewelry and designer clothes. Not all of them, but most did. Most often these prestigious schools are surrounded by poor communities. These students did not care about that. Only themselves.
Bill's Basic concept is sound, however...Being thankful that corporations exist is one thing, excusing their bad deeds is another altogether. There are plenty of useful and necessary large organizations. But some like Monsanto, BP, and others have become criminal. And there is no excuse.......
wow, he just described every person in rural wisconsin. i don't know one person that doesn't hunt, trap, garden, do work by hand, live without electricity on occasion.and not just for 3 1/2 days, but for their entire lives. this guy just sounds like a self centered beligerant tyrant that wants his 3 1/2 days in power.
Nice job of explanation Bill. You just described the everyday redneck, like me, that enjoys camping, hunting, gardening and teaching his children to be self sufficient. The same rednecks that build and repair cars/trucks, homes and office buildings, roads and bridges, pump oil and refine it for their Beemers. The same rednecks that keep this country running and get no thanks from these whiny-ass spoiled crybabies that are upset because they got a socialist indoctrination for $100k.
Everything you have brought up, which is what these dumbass Occupiers are bitchin about, is acceptable because our government has allowed it to happen and PROMOTED it. Bailouts, crooks, corruption, go to the top and you will find the lawmakers, the Washington slimeball politicians that are leading this fiasco. But no, lets blame the bankers.
Tea Party has it right, always has, the politicians are the fuckin criminals for giving the bankers our money. OPEN YOUR EYES!!!
Prosecuting the bankers is like prosecuting the heroin addict for accepting the free heroin from the cartel.
Banker = addict
Fed Govt. = drug dealer
Fed Reserve = Cartel
We are all being conned by the biggest scam since the end of the Roman Empire where the citizens were fed and entertained while the world crumbled around them.
The crooks in DC point fingers at each other and have us blaming each other..Repubs, vs. Dems., while they laugh at us and enslave us to their debt.
Bill Whittle you are disgusting. Quit acting like you are enlightening anyone. Go out in the woods yourself because the way you are talking you can tell you haven't ever done it.
You want to make millions as a corporate big shot? Fine. Do you have the right to put others in poverty to do so? NO! Capitalism isn't the problem. Human selfishness is.
It's easy for Bill to criticize these people with high pay job on television. I'm not asking for free health care. I'm not asking for free insurance. I'm not asking for anything for free. I'M ASKING FOR EVERYTHING TO BE AFFORDABLE! The C.E.O.s have jacked their prices up so much that it puts the rest of us in constant poverty. They outsource our jobs and find more ways to pay their workers less and less. How is that not a righteous thing to protest?
@M0ZER Because you do not deserve ANYTHING outside of the rights to life liberty and property upon which this country is based. You want something to be affordable? GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND MAKE IT AFFORDABLE. Thats entrepreneurialism.
@TheCoconutCookie your absolutely right about that only the system is not based on sound money.wonder why people arent motivated,40 year mortgage of crushing debt,a declining dollar, inflation, interest rates, uncertain job market [probably doing something u h8],to buy a house which is not an asset, rates +upkeep+power+gas+water etc..oh and your only a leasee, you have no property rights, the government owns the title...doesnt sound like the pursuit of happiness to me.
Yes we should be so grateful for having acid raining from the sky, for all the dangerous chemicals, heavy metals and other poisons we have in our bodies. Thankful for the extinction of so many species, the contamination of rivers and seas. Thank you capitalism for putting us all in a sinking ship. Thank you for contaminating the environment so much and depleting its resources so that a simple life where you are self sufficient now is almost impossible. keep spending all those billions on war...
I wonder how it feels to be so unoriginal that you have to steal material from a liberal comedian giant like George Carlin to present as though you just came up with it on a conservative show. I'm sure Bill Whittle will be able to tell me if I ever get a chance to meet him. Man, Nietzsche was right. HACK!
He's somewhat right, but he fails to mention that many are protesting because our federal government has given 7 TRILLION in bailouts to banks printed by the Federal Reserve, which has nothing to do with people being lazy. That massive increase in the money supply send prices of oil, food and everything up. When they do that we all get poorer. The Federal Reserve and the government don't care. That is what the smarter ones are protesting.
I LOVE this. We're all a bunch of emo grad students (who majored in "Bitterness Studies".. -cough- what would you call your attitude, sir? That's hySTERical!) sitting at Starbuck's on our iPads? rofl.. This guy has to be a satire.. right? I want to think that people can't truly be this ignorant and pathetic.. but it looks like they're out there.. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry buddy. ;)
@starf0rtress Wow you lack everything in your comments. Facts, logic, a point, are completely devoid in your argument. Please tell me haven't gone past the fourth grade yet. I can give you a pass and pray that you will get a decent education. Ignorant and pathetic seems to be you life's calling.
Crawl back in your occupy tent and rethink your life. If you are in one of those rape tents, get out.
You seem like a leftie, blame it on your teachers. Your fail is their fail! It's not your fault.
@starf0rtress More insults? If you are receiving what you perceive as insults from many people, try to use reason. What is the one constant? I will help, you are. Conclusion, you are the problem.
Name calling? You seem to have a full arsenal going here. Lefties are allowed and others are not.
Education needs more money? If shit stinks throwing more money at it won’t solve that problem. It appears that lefties have severely screwed up the school system aided by the ACLU. Thank them.
@mueygringo I only made ONE comment. How many did you count with your lack of ignorance?
Facts? Logic? Well it's completely logical to me (I actually WATCHED the video) to call this guy a tool.. I am placing my facts upon the information given in said video. This guy is STILL a tool. Also in case you missed the point.. THIS GUY IS A TOOL.
What exactly is YOUR point other than to insult me? Where are your facts to back up my ignorance other than your own apparent distaste?
@mueygringo Also stop making presumptions about me. You don't know where I live nor what I do or what political opinion I take. All I said it that this guy is a tool, and he is.
My life.. I think my life is just fine but thanks for the unwanted advice! There are a few kinks in the road but that's normal. :)
Most of my teachers think the Occupy movement is silly. So.. why are you making things up? Why would you blame my teachers for what I think? lol
@mueygringo lol Did you not see the point where I said "unless you were going for irony?" Apply this here.
Actually star and fortress are both English words. What exactly is YOUR point? Have you never heard of "g33ksp34k" or "l33t sp34k?" G33k 5p34k or 13375p34k? Is this all 4chan/anonymous evil code talk to you? "Starfortress" was taken.
Thank you for informing me of your ability to count. And I am glad you are educated. Please act like it, and please stop trolololing me now.
@starf0rtress Yes I can count. You have shown that you cannot. You get insulted because you are smug and not as smart as you think you are. It isn't trolling. Why do lefties, that get their heads handed to them in debate, hide behind the veil of trolling?
Just accept a good butt kicking and walk away. Then the next time you see me posting on your insipid comments you will just fold and you will not have to be exposed as a stupid little child.
@mueygringo lol Honey you didn't hand me anything. I thought you were trolling because I couldn't believe someone could honestly be this stupid. Obviously I was wrong.
Nice to know you are educated, please act like it. I'm trying to get people on these forums to understand us and have been met with a bunch of name calling and accusations and labels. I'm just wondering.. did you read anything I typed? Because your responses remind me of a half assed thought.
@starf0rtress Yes you are a smug little bitch who got her head handed to her. You don’t understand why you get insulted; you are just too stupid to understand.
Don't worry your stupidity is not your fault. Lefties don't take responsibility for their failure. It was someone else’s fault you are stupid.
Get used to this because you are a failure. From your comments, mediocrity is a level to be achieved.
Any thoughts addressed to you that are half assed are over your head dolt.
I cannot believe how you are so willing to belittle the protesters and insult them when you have not even listened to the protesters and what their protest is all about. I have no respect for your comments.
@onebonnylass It's hard to grasp what the protesters are doing. Especially when they don't even know what they are doing. Not to mention, they should be in Washington. Not anywhere else.
@onebonnylass We haven't listened to the protestors' message? All I can hear is their drunken partying and their streams of urination all over mailboxes etc.
I don't think itt's a matter of people being sheltered, if I blame anyone here it is our teaching institutions who are still years behind in what we prepare people for. Right from elementary school. We don't challenge our kids enough to be creative, they are being educated by teachers in a strong union and still given this belief that they will land a secure job till they get a pension and die. Those days are gone, stop the no fail policies in school and catch up with the times Create your jobs.
capitalism is not a thing. it's not a magical mystical thing that exists outside of us. capitalism is a method that exists WITHIN our society. it's our society that created our lifestyles, not this autonomous personified 'capitalism' figure.
This man is an idiot. He doesn't have a clue what the OWS movement is about. It's not that there are corporations, it's about the way they behave.
Corporations have gone from having to operate in the public interest to to having the government cater to their interests.
Corps used to pay about 10% dividends, now they barely pay any, even though they have trillions in their coffers. So they're not even acting in the interests of their stockholders anymore.
Don't blame the businessmen. Blame the politicians for opening the purse. That's the problem. Not the businessman. If I ask the government for a 1,000,000 dollars, that's not wrong. Them giving me taxpayer money is wrong.
You're right, Bill. These protesters are a pack of week willed ninnies attempting to voice a frustration with a corporate world to which we should show undying gratitude. Why wouldn't we want the oil companies lobbying for legislation, or insurance companies donating to politicians' campaigns. I think it does make our representative republic stronger when what is right for the individual, state, or nation can be overlooked so that the prom king like electoral system can work. Republican, democ
@comicbookclass Your complaint is something that should actually be brought up to the elected officials who were chosen to serve the public, yet end up selling themselves and the people they are supposed to serve to the highest bidder.
It is silly to blame a company for making a good investment. The government, on the other hand, can be blamed for taking what are effectively bribes and letting them happen.
We, our children, and our country has been so sheltered for so long that we have lost track of what true life is about. It is about starting with nothing and building yourself into the person you want to be. It is about hardships and understanding that YOU, yes, YOU have to be responsible for YOUR actions. YOU chose to go to college for a degree OF YOUR CHOICE, and its the companies' fault they didnt hire you? VALUES are gone, GET THEM BACK THE WAY AMERICANS HAVE DONE FOR CENTURIES AND GROW UP.
wow , way to pretend that "Occupy" has some semi coherent POINT ,despite the wishes of various YT commentators who WANT the OWS to have some rational ,semi inteligible message ,I have watched hundreds of OWS clips and have yet to encounter anything more than vapid ,childish ,whiny CLAPTRAP ...bordering somewhere between obnoxious marxist drivel and delusional THC induced hippy utopias ...and btw , dont TELL me what you wantor WISH it to be ,SHOW me a single "clown free" OWS clip ..just ONE ..
And Monsanto? Really?? One of the worst corps. in the world, and he's saying we should be grateful to them? For what? For ruining our food and genetically modifying it? Besides, Monsanto and Tyson and other big food corps. ruin family farms.
There are barely any real farms anymore. They are corporate-owned factory farms, pumping out genetically engineered "food" with the nutrition engineered out of it. I would hardly call the processed shit we eat "food".
@corporateCoffee Be grateful for money, be grateful for anything. People are starving all over the world and people cannot get jobs because of the economy, not because of the corporations. The US corporate tax rate is the 2nd highest in the world, and yet people wondering why our economy is not turning around? Regulations wont allow them to, but yet we blame corporations for not hiring more people? Grow up, because if you dont, Mexicans will be happy to do it for you.
Yes it is, but after all the tax credits and loopholes corporations get, they end up paying a fraction of the actual tax rate. So in reality, what the US collects in corporate tax is shit.
Don't get me wrong, I realize what I have. I'm pretty well traveled and I've seen the rough side for myself. (Mostly in Central America, including Mexico) I am appreciative of what I do have.
Thankfully, my father was able to provide a better life for me than he had.
And you can say tax credits and loopholes for corporations(I know many people have that a 1 person corporation) but 40% of the income taxes are paid by the top 1%. That is from the IRS. Look it up, it's a very well known statistic that is extremely well known and documented by the IRS.
The reason we have so much is because these "benevolent" corporations rob the 3rd world blind and pillage its resources to make a ridiculous profit stateside.
Most of the 3rd world is "3rd world-ish" because those countries have been taken advantage of through this predatory, viral form of capitalism that exists in the west today.
@corporateCoffee The shit we eat? In case you have lost your mind, if we did not mass produce food you would be dead...and in case you did not know this, you can make your own food, people like you just choose not to. Earth is overpopulated; and you think its the food companies that are ruining the food? Think long and hard about what you say my friend. It is not the production that is the problem, it is humans. We are not efficient; look at the whole picture next time you play the blame game.
They ARE ruining food. Just google the preservatives we ingest, the dyes, the artificial sweeteners. Lot's of 'em have harmful effects on us; others still have unknown effects.
And there is plenty of food to go around. There is enough to feed the whole world. But we would rather feed it to hormone-pumped up cattle to produce big juicy steaks for us to eat.
You are right, though: We are not efficient. But that's intended. Inefficiency drives the economy.
Now, let's look at efficiency, since you brought it up:
The Greek root of the word "economy": management of a household, thrift.
This implies reducing waste. An economy is supposed to increase efficiency to provide for a population's needs.
Yet, our economic model reinforces the opposite of the true definition. Its based on constant consumption (which results in waste). Efficiency and sustainability don't fit into our current economic system.
I LOVE THE OCCUPY WALL STREET MOVEMENT! I THINK IT IS TRUE PATRIOTISM!! But I still love Captitalism! Corrupt Capitalism is what should be opposed! =)
And the protesters are pissed at the greedy big businesses such as Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint are stealing "their" money and are ruining their lives, when I bet 99 percent of the protesters have cell phien
Bill doesn't know what "those protesters" have gone through. Many of them have worked very hard all their lives only to see the tax money they proudly pay go into the pockets of the rich politicans and crooked finacial businessmen. Bill Whittle is missing the point. I think HE is the one who feels entitled and pampered and is now practicing self deprication. He totally disregards the appeal of the protesters against the greedy super rich who will stop at nothing to stay that way.
Completely missing the point. The banks crashed the economy and stole literally trillions. They should be prosecuted. If the bankers keep doing business as usual, we will all be living on the land everyday, not just 3.5 days because money will no longer have any value. Maybe it's for the best. I'm ready to hunt, trap and plant to earn my keep. I'm sure this fuck in the suit has never gotten his hands dirty before.
@robertabramski No dude you are missing the point, Your absolutely right about the banks and such crashing the economy HOWEVER the "movement" was constantly talking about the rich 1% and the wealth gap. if they would protest the system that crashed the economy, the lack of capital, the second mortgages, mortgaging people who shouldn't have mortgages etc... as of now they are socialists or even communists. works great until you run out of someone else's money.
@HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 Dude. The movement is protesting whatever the system has. Deregulation, Government corruption, corporate interests, you name it. The movement itself has a very broad spectrum of complaints, and that is one of the reasons some say they have no real message. The way Bill Whittle is missing the point is he is pointing out some kind of feeling that the movement are just privileged children. They are not. They are pointing out the flaws in the system that no one else addressed.
@HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 These people are certainly not communists or socialists, that is a small minority, these people overwhelmingly want lobbying out of politics, because this is silencing pretty much all of our opinions, even yours... haha. I'm not trying to argue, I just wanted to voice my opinion.
@StratoBlaster420 very true, about getting lobbying out of politics, however that was never portrayed by the occupy movement, neither was the banks and mortgage lenders, it turned from being something that could have really help change the world to pissing everyone off, you need the middle class on your side for public support and they will never ever support wealth distribution as so much of the movement wanted. they lost a golden opportunity and let the freeloaders take over.
@HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 Wrong. Lobbying in politics was never mentioned by corporate media. The most consistent message after all the research into the movement I have done has shown to be getting lobbying out of politics. They are called occupy wall street because who has the most money? Wall street banks and corporations. They are the ones that control our representatives through lobbying. (money)
Every financial institution that required Federal assistance should have had its XO and Board Members assets stripped from them and relieved of duty, all compensation contracts should have been made null and the institution's officers replaced in time. All this done with the institution operating on life support. When you financially fail then someone should suffer failure. All of this currency production used to fix the institutions will eventually rob from all of us.
i feel like it's important to recognize that at the heart of the OWS movement there is a demand for a more homogeneous political climate. It does not pride itself on being a movement for either democrats of republicans. It is strict opposition to the two-party system. This being the case, any rhetoric that carries party-charged slurs entirely misses the point of what OWS is and ends up as a purposeless enforcement a system who's injustices motivated OWS to coalesce at all.
Anuojat, you left out how they want those things for nothing... have you read their signs? I walked past one were it said "egypt has it right". Please do not give this generation more credit then they deserve.
Wow, what a blatant misinformer. Evidently sticking fingers unto ones ears and ignoring the complaints is good enoug for this man. This is not what OWS is about. Did bill forget to check or ASK what OWS issues are? Why doesnt he cite or critize any of the things OWS members have said?
"Be happy that your in such good condition, that we there are jobs for you, that you got roof over your head." OWS members do like those, and they fight to keep those things from slipping away.
Very insightful! Those people don't truly no how privileged they are, and how good they got it in life. Remember when you were a little kid and your mom told you to eat your dinner because "there are starving people in other countries"? She's right! We should all be thankful. We have it so good here, that we look so negatively at the smallest setbacks and problems.
@Gibbagobba Except we have starving people in our own rich countries, including people who were doing good until 2 years ago, so you can't just say "these lazy scums deserve it", there's a systemic crisis of capitalism, to which the only ways out are either full world war or full world revolution. Hell 50% of US citizens are either "poor" or "low income", and even the 30% above that have only stagnated in the last 20 years...
That makes 80% with an objective interest in socialism.
@Longlivethe4th First of all, tell me where you get your statistics because that's a lie. Middle class people in the past have been known to be moving up in class. That is why there is a bigger difference between upper to lower now. People who poor because they can't help it is now an edge case.
Socialism/Communism has never worked and has always caused starvation because the government deciding for others is a bad idea.
@Longlivethe4th Also, the US has way more charitable contributions per capita than any country in Europe (welfare states). So the US is helping its poor. But we have given the poor money instead of any incentives to be better. If there is no incentive to work hard then poor people will be lazy. 80% of the population does not want socialism. Throwing money at a problem has never worked especially from government.
1 I don't want govt deciding everything or to throw money at problems, I want people deciding directly instead of bosses, that's what socialism/communism was supposed to mean originaly
2 There are 200 million jobs less in the world today than before the crisis, OECD stats, these people did not became lazy overnight, it's the economy that's fucked up.
3 stat on poverty is from a report of the US conference of mayors published in december
@dkchen correction : 3 is not form USCM but form the Census, if you want details : 97.3 million are in low-income category, those earning between 100 and 199 % of the poverty level, together with the 49.1 million who fall below the poverty line and are counted as poor, they number 146.4 million, or 48 percent of the U.S. population. That's up by 4 million from 2009.
Gosh, LMAO, what a comedy act. He kept such a straight face. Really like the corporate grey suit, the manicured hands, hair matches the suit, eye brows, tweezed just right. He should be on SNL.
By the way, anyone who is responding to me, don't bother. I'm about to start another major project and won't be coming around and I have the e-mail notifications either turned off or going straight to the junk file. It's been fun trying to figure your lunatic nonsense out but I really have wasted too much time trying to see if I could talk some sense into you and I admit I failed.
@bobbj22 All true. I am fortunate, right now, to be between major projects but another one is coming up so I'm going to disappear pretty soon. I'm wasting my time here anyway - spartan2600 and clearwatergags are about as dense as lead and have about the same IQ. It is funny how they come up with all this nonsense that could only come from "liberals" and "progressives" and try to pawn it off on me. If they only knew.
@seffatkins there is difference between greed and desire my friend. greed is wanting something so obsessively that you resort to selfish actions, so by that definition I am not greedy at all. greed is bad, and it is self-destructive. Not only is it immortal but greed hurts you in the long run. thats what conservatives don't get. we would all do better if Americans treated each other as part of a team instead of trying to scam one another to make an extra buck.
you guys keep saying this, but I am the only one presenting facts. all you guys do is criticize, you think for a second a paragraph of insults is going to change my mind? I am an objective person if you want to change my mind present me cold hard facts, which nobody has done. not one of you. only conspiracy theory and twisted truths. So I call your bs. I am sorry that my presenting facts disrupts your delusional world. maybe if you would stop being so angry you could think rationally.
Funny that you would post this just before (if I'm reading the order of posts right) you launched into a post that was just insult after insult. I don't call you a fool, I merely point out another FACT: Your posts PROVE you are one without me saying a word! You haven't presented an HONEST fact yet, just a bunch of left wing nonsense talking points that only someone with a very low IQ who's prone to fall for emotional arguments and who cannot think logically and rationally would believe.
@GregorSD where are these so called facts? that scientist have not agreed on climate change? that clinton didn't have a surplus? that single payer doesn't allow us to have choices in coverage? that the banks didn't steal millions? these are not facts these are your twisted opinions. i look back every comment you just say i am wrong and don;t say why. i look it up just in case and i can;t find one thing that supports your wild claims.
I've worked among "the average single black mother" and I can tell you why she, and others like her, not all of them single, black or mothers, or even female, have a net worth of $5 or less - which to me sounds like a statistic you just pulled from your own behind anyway...
They spend every dollar, usually frivolously, usually before they make it. They're selfish, think only of themselves and their own pleasure (how do you think they got pregnant!) and expect everyone else to care for them.
@GregorSD The $5 dollar net worth figure came from the Pew Research Center's study based on US Census data. The average whole black household net worth is only $5,700.
Black mothers, and all poor people spend the highest share of their income just living. Its because they're *poor*. Or perhaps you want to argue that a wealthy person *needs* a 4000 sq ft. mansion and Mercedes Benz to survive.
You don't have a clue, really. You've not seen what they spend their money on - I've seen it first hand. I didn't say a wealthy person "needs" those things, you did. But it's true the wealthy person EARNED those things and has a right to their property. You're pushing a society where things can be arbitrarily taken from anyone for any reason. If that's really what you want, move to Venezuela.
@GregorSD Nobody is self-made, everyone only earns any money because of the society and the organization in our government and economy that we all, collectively create. If not for the government police, you'd see how fast all the billionaires would see their multiple homes taken from their greedy clutches.
@spartan2600 You're right that no individual could achieve the modern standard of middle living without adequet trading partners, but a self-made man is then one who owes all his soccess to the trades he made of the values he produced, such that he still had to work for his money. He was lucky to have had others who produced what he wanted, but achieved by his own virtues the ability to make them an offer.
@spartan2600 Society as a precondition for trade and mutual prosperity could not exist if such pitiful self-righteous scavengers were allowed to roam free, which is why rational people elect a government to enforce property laws, even when some people own significantly more than others.
@spartan2600 When a man makes his fortune solely by production and trade by consent with other men, when he has already payed them his end of the bargain in order to gain theirs, when it was the work of his mind that geared his efforts toward those tasks with a high ratio of yield to work, then he has already payed his dues to his trading partners, and his success is his own.
@GregorSD As Warren Buffett himself has admitted, its only because of society that he has been able to become so rich. Buffett continued, 'drop me in the middle of Bangladesh and you will see how worthless my talent for seeking good investments really is on its own.'
You can keep talking about your right-wing talking points as 'observed fact,' but the reality is that poor people aren't the largest consumers of "gold chains." I think Swarovsky would beg to differ.
@GregorSD Also, your hatred of the poor seeps through every sentence your write, like when you dismissingly stereotype every poor person as being unable to control the sexual drive and proliferating "illegitimate" children.
@GregorSD I don't know "working" with "the average single black mother" means, but your worldview isn't based on reality, its based on an ideology of contempt and hatred for poor people.
Also, do you think wealthy people who have fewer children do so because they never have sex? That's the implication of saying that poor people have lots of children because they only care about pleasuring themselves, a disgusting and vile outlook on the disadvantaged.
@spartan2600 - Yes, my world view IS based on reality because I was immersed in EXACTLY that situation whereas you're talking about things you pulled out of your rear end and statistics that do not reflect the fact that some people will buy themselves a gold chain before they'll spend those same dollars on formula and diapers for their illegitimate child. THAT is the reality and I walked among those people for some time, saw it FIRSTHAND, so don't you dare presume to tell me what is real.
@spartan2600 - You keep putting YOUR ideas into words then attributing them to me. I agree, YOUR outlook on the "disadvantaged" is indeed vile and disgusting. I never said wealthy people have fewer children because they never have sex, YOU DID! I never said poor people have lots of children because they only care about pleasuring themselves, YOU DID! Stop attributing YOUR nonsense to me.
@GregorSD People who are poor have more children because they are economically unstable, and having children ensures that they will have somebody to provide for them in their old age. It was true of peasants in 1500, and its true of the inner-city poor in America in 2011. The solution is to pull poor people out of poverty and give them economic stability. Give them jobs. That is part of what OWS is demanding.
@spartan2600 - That's a real neat, and completely false, theory you have there. Children who grow up in that situation wind up more often than not either being abandoned or running away and very often do not know or care about where their parents are, nor do the parents care about the kids. THAT is the reality that you KNOW if you bother to actually BE compassionate and work among them instead of bloviating online about how superior you and your ideas are to anyone who disagrees with you.
@GregorSD Human beings, like our ape cousins, are social creatures. We can only survive if we all take care of eachother. You've been cared for by society, since you obviously have some amount of wealth considering all leisure... or frivolous time you've spent commenting on Youtube. Hating people who are not as privileged as yourself is both irrational and immoral according to virtually every religion (especially Christianity) and moral code.
You're talking about me wasting time on YOUTUBE? I daresay you've spent much more time than me. You're the only one talking about hate - remember, I volunteer and work among those people - would that indicate that I hate them? Why do YOU keep talking about hate? Is it because you're so full of it, so hateful? I think so. Once again YOU are the one going on about hate and lecturing to me when YOU are obviously the hater. GROW UP! WISE UP! And perhaps STFU until you GET A CLUE!
Yeah, it is somewhat childish, but actually "lib-tard" does have a ring of truth to it, when you get right down and think about it. Just look at what the "liberals" who post here are saying!
The right to assemble is not absolute. Nor is assembly the only thing the occu-tards are doing. They're also damaging public property, creating a public nuisance, interfering, deliberately, with commerce, soliciting donations under fradulent pretenses... I could go on and on. The right to assemble, as I see someone else already told you, does not include illegal squatting. OWS is in fact an illegal mob as described and as such should be rounded up, jailed, fined, etc.
The problem is we have a right to LEGAL assembly, not to "OCCUPY" illegally. I'm amazed the police weren't called in sooner, as they should have been, to clear out the riff-raff and help those who are truly sincere and have a valid point to make that there is a right way and a wrong way to do it - and "OCCUPY" is THE WRONG WAY.
@bobbj22 - Great point - the Republicans are not so great either, but right now the Democrats are worse. Pretty sad, given the history of the parties, that they've both sunk so low. But right now I'd still tend to pick Republican over Democrat where there's not a good third party candidate available.
Haha so true!! OWS are envious that others have more than them. 15 of the top 20 donors to political party campaigns comes from Unions. Only 3 of the other 5 are corporations.
@dkchen - YES and not only that, this so-called "leaderless" movement is completely union led. Go to their various marches and other activities and see for yourself. Union people get up, thank the other area unions for the great turnout, then they march or whatever.
@dkchen Which only shows that Unions have totally sold out since the 1930s and that OWS people should rebel against them too. Unions have signed all the rotten deals you can think of in the last 20 years.
@Longlivethe4th For reals! If unions were meant for safety and regulations. But their increase in wages makes all US products automatically more expensive. They don't understand basic economics or just plain ignorance.
@dkchen Oh no, the unions have accepted and actively contributed to the driving down of wages since Reagan. They accept fully the argument of the bosses that people should be less paid to stay competitive, as long as their own priviledged place as slave drivers is not changed.
And the "basic economics" you speak of are a fraud, there's no point beeing competitive with third world workers who are maintained barely above subsistance by bloody dictators. First let's have true democracy.
@Longlivethe4th First of all, that is not true for majority of unions. Public unions, which is the majority of unions, have only seen increases in their wages. California is running a deficit because Gray Davis decided that all public unions (which contributed to his campaign). I have yet to see anything like what you said in public unions. I know it could be different in unions for private business. 15 of the top 20 top donors to campaigns are unions.
@dkchen Sorry I totally didn't complete one sentence. Gray Davis ran California into a deficit because he gave all the public unions that contributed to his campaign raises. There was no negotiation like there would have been in the private sector unions. Unions like many liberal ideas have a good purposes (an assumption here) but very poor execution.
@bobbj22 Both parties make me sick also. Ron Paul who for whatever reason thinks one can negotiate with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without getting his head lopped off makes him an equal fool. Otherwise as far as being a strict Constitutionalists... I love the guy.
He is dead on accurate if we were having bombs lobed in our back yard the world would have huge sink holes in the middle east in less than a nano second.
@bobbj22 dude i am the only one using real facts everyone else spews hateful rhetoric like yourself. nobody backs up anything with true facts. bobroberts tried a little but i looked up his facts and found them nonfactual. ever think maybe you are the one that is wrong? probably not since your arrogance gets in the way. you probably actually think you are smart. unlike you i listen to other people try to see if from their side, look up the facts and that decide on what to believe.
@clearwatergags - Where did you look up the facts? Wikipedia? Some left wing propaganda site? Naturally if you get all your information from liars you're going to believe the truth is a lie and lies are the truth. Everything I told you was straight from reputable sources, much from the government itself. Now I freely admit the government plays fast and loose with the facts - which is exactly why the truly ignorant actually believe we had a surplus during the Clinton years.

Bill is right. They are not.

Even now I try to discuss anything with my mom... continued
nerdycub 2 weeks ago

THAT'S what OWS is protesting, you idiot.

xenoziphead 3 weeks ago
Sorry, Bill, but while your description may, in fact, describe some of the protesters, they do not represent what OWS is all about. The protest, at its heart, was in response to the $800 billion TARP bailout of Wall Street firms such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Lehman Bros. They were able to convince Congress to hand over billions of dollars by spending millions of dollars on lobbyists. It's not about student loans. It's about getting corporate money out of OUR government.
emantabrizi 3 weeks ago
@emantabrizi It is about getting corrupt politicians out of power! Particularly Democratic ones. They are the ones who started and funded Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac at the heart of the whole fiasco ( these are gov't corps). It is all about giving money to people who can't pay it back, to assure that they vote for the Democrat Party.
ljowa 3 weeks ago
@ljowa ... Do you really believe that there are NO corrupt Republicans in office at the moment? None, whatsoever? You REALLY believe that?
emantabrizi 3 weeks ago
@emantabrizi Please read what I wrote, "particularly, Democratic." assumes there are corrupt Republican ones. But, what is your point? In this case the corrupt Dem. ones benefit by getting votes from the "poor' who couldn't own homes through conventional mortgages. Just like they benefit from the support of rich "environmentalists" or crony capitalists like Warren Buffet by not building an oil pipeline. In all cases, the middle class suffers.
ljowa 3 weeks ago

Now I have time for Grand-kids!
oldfart387 3 weeks ago
@oldfart387 ... You don't know what you're talking about. Obama hasn't "stopped drilling." In fact, domestic drilling has increased every year of his Presidency. Yes, there was a moratorium on NEW drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, but that did not stop existing platforms from drilling. Oh, and horrible gas prices? I paid $3.09 a gallon this evening. I paid over $4.00 a gallon in 2008...when Bush was President.
emantabrizi 3 weeks ago
@emantabrizi Clueless wonder! Drilling is not the same as pumping. So even if they were drilling on existing platforms, so what? We can't get new oil from new drilling! But, Obama is willing to subsidized Brazil to do so! We can't even increase our oil supplies from Canada, because of him. So,Canada will sell it to the Chinese. Oh, and by the way I am paying $3.60 for gas under Obama, and it has never gotten as low under him as did under Bush, $2.60. I have paid more for everything under Obama.
ljowa 3 weeks ago
@ljowa ... The Keystone pipeline wasn't going to increase oil supplies to the United States. Canada simply didn't want to build new refineries. They were going to export the raw product to Texas and then ship the finished product from the Gulf coast to other countries. Oh, and Canada already sells to the Chinese. That wasn't going to change just because we built a pipeline.
emantabrizi 3 weeks ago
@emantabrizi What does building refineries have to do with it? Gasoline is more hazardous than oil to transport by any means. Canada would rather sell oil directly to the US, transported by pipe than by other means like trucks. Yes, we would get more of it.Of course, if we don't "want" more oil, then Canada will sell it to the Chinese as they said they would; the Canad. will have to transport it to the coast far from their centrally located sources. The US border is closer.
ljowa 3 weeks ago
When I was growing up, we were taught to sacrifice and save for what we wanted (not necessarily needed). I remember being so hungry in school, I would eat food from the bathroom trash and run off to class full. These student loans not only paid for these kids college tuition, they used them to purchase cars, jewelry and designer clothes. Not all of them, but most did. Most often these prestigious schools are surrounded by poor communities. These students did not care about that. Only themselves.

He's somewhat right, but he fails to mention that many are protesting because our federal government has given 7 TRILLION in bailouts to banks printed by the Federal Reserve, which has nothing to do with people being lazy.

RPL2012 1 month ago
@RPL2012

RPL2012 1 month ago
@RPL2012
Inefficiency drives the economy.
corporateCoffee 1 month ago
@RPL2012
Paradoxical, isn't it?

He totally disregards the appeal of the protesters against the greedy super rich who will stop at nothing to stay that way.
RuskoE 2 months ago
Completely missing the point. The banks crashed the economy and stole literally trillions. They should be prosecuted. If the bankers keep doing business as usual, we will all be living on the land everyday, not just 3.5 days because money will no longer have any value. Maybe it's for the best. robertabramski 2 months ago 2
HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 2 months ago
@HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 Dude. The movement is protesting whatever the system has. Deregulation, Government corruption, corporate interests, you name it. The movement itself has a very broad spectrum of complaints, and that is one of the reasons some say they have no real message. The way Bill Whittle is missing the point is he is pointing out some kind of feeling that the movement are just privileged children. They are not. They are pointing out the flaws in the system that no one else addressed.
robertabramski 2 months ago
@robertabramski Exactly, the movement itself is the message! Peace, brother! =)

StratoBlaster420 2 months ago
@StratoBlaster420 very true, about getting lobbying out of politics, however that was never portrayed by the occupy movement, neither was the banks and mortgage lenders, it turned from being something that could have really help change the world to pissing everyone off, you need the middle class on your side for public support and they will never ever support wealth distribution as so much of the movement wanted. they lost a golden opportunity and let the freeloaders take over.
HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 1 month ago
@HARRYFRIGGINPOTTER1 Wrong. Lobbying in politics was never mentioned by corporate media. i feel like it's important to recognize that at the heart of the OWS movement there is a demand for a more homogeneous political climate.

Very insightful! Those people don't truly no how privileged they are, and how good they got it in life. We have it so good here, that we look so negatively at the smallest setbacks and problems.
Gibbagobba 2 months ago
@Gibbagobba Except we have starving people in our own rich countries, including people who were doing good until 2 years ago, so you can't just say "these lazy scums deserve it", there's a systemic crisis of capitalism, to which the only ways out are either full world war or full world revolution. Hell 50% of US citizens are either "poor" or "low income", and even the 30% above that have only stagnated in the last 20 years...
That makes 80% with an objective interest in socialism.
Longlivethe4th 2 months ago
@Longlivethe4th First of all, tell me where you get your statistics because that's a lie. Middle class people in the past have been known to be moving up in class. That is why there is a bigger difference between upper to lower now. People who poor because they can't help it is now an edge case.
Socialism/Communism has never worked and has always caused starvation because the government deciding for others is a bad idea.
dkchen 2 months ago
@Longlivethe4th Also, the US has way more charitable contributions per capita than any country in Europe (welfare states). So the US is helping its poor. But we have given the poor money instead of any incentives to be better. If there is no incentive to work hard then poor people will be lazy. 80% of the population does not want socialism. Throwing money at a problem has never worked especially from government.
dkchen 2 months ago

1 I don't want govt deciding everything or to throw money at problems, I want people deciding directly instead of bosses, that's what socialism/communism was supposed to mean originaly
2 There are 200 million jobs less in the world today than before the crisis, OECD stats, these people did not became lazy overnight, it's the economy that's fucked up.
3 stat on poverty is from a report of the US conference of mayors published in december

@dkchen correction : 3 is not form USCM but form the Census, if you want details : 97.3 million are in low-income category, those earning between 100 and 199 % of the poverty level, together with the 49.1 million who fall below the poverty line and are counted as poor, they number 146.4 million, or 48 percent of the U.S. population.
GregorSD 2 months ago
@GregorSD The $5 dollar net worth figure came from the Pew Research Center's study based on US Census data. The average whole black household net worth is only $5,700.
Black mothers, and all poor people spend the highest share of their income just living. Its because they're *poor*. Or perhaps you want to argue that a wealthy person *needs* a 4000 sq ft. mansion and Mercedes Benz to survive.
spartan2600 2 months ago
You don't have a clue, really. You've not seen what they spend their money on - I've seen it first hand. I didn't say a wealthy person "needs" those things, you did. But it's true the wealthy person EARNED those things and has a right to their property. You're pushing a society where things can be arbitrarily taken from anyone for any reason. If that's really what you want, move to Venezuela.
GregorSD 2 months ago
@GregorSD Nobody is self-made, everyone only earns any money because of the society and the organization in our government and economy that we all, collectively create. If not for the government police, you'd see how fast all the billionaires would see their multiple homes taken from their greedy clutches.
spartan2600 3 weeks ago
@spartan2600 You're right that no individual could achieve the modern standard of middle living without adequet trading partners, but a self-made man is then one who owes all his soccess to the trades he made of the values he produced, such that he still had to work for his money. He was lucky to have had others who produced what he wanted, but achieved by his own virtues the ability to make them an offer.
eggory 3 weeks ago
@spartan2600 Society as a precondition for trade and mutual prosperity could not exist if such pitiful self-righteous scavengers were allowed to roam free, which is why rational people elect a government to enforce property laws, even when some people own significantly more than others.
eggory 3 weeks ago
@spartan2600 When a man makes his fortune solely by production and trade by consent with other men, when he has already payed them his end of the bargain in order to gain theirs, when it was the work of his mind that geared his efforts toward those tasks with a high ratio of yield to work, then he has already payed his dues to his trading partners, and his success is his own.
eggory 3 weeks ago
@GregorSD As Warren Buffett himself has admitted, its only because of society that he has been able to become so rich. Buffett continued, 'drop me in the middle of Bangladesh and you will see how worthless my talent for seeking good investments really is on its own.'
You can keep talking about your right-wing talking points as 'observed fact,' but the reality is that poor people aren't the largest consumers of "gold chains." I think Swarovsky would beg to differ.
spartan2600 3 weeks ago
@GregorSD Also, your hatred of the poor seeps through every sentence your write, like when you dismissingly stereotype every poor person as being unable to control the sexual drive and proliferating "illegitimate" children.
spartan2600 3 weeks ago
@GregorSD I don't know "working" with "the average single black mother" means, but your worldview isn't based on reality, its based on an ideology of contempt and hatred for poor people.
Also, do you think wealthy people who have fewer children do so because they never have sex? That's the implication of saying that poor people have lots of children because they only care about pleasuring themselves, a disgusting and vile outlook on the disadvantaged.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@spartan2600 - Yes, my world view IS based on reality because I was immersed in EXACTLY that situation whereas you're talking about things you pulled out of your rear end and statistics that do not reflect the fact that some people will buy themselves a gold chain before they'll spend those same dollars on formula and diapers for their illegitimate child. THAT is the reality and I walked among those people for some time, saw it FIRSTHAND, so don't you dare presume to tell me what is real.
GregorSD 2 months ago
@spartan2600 - You keep putting YOUR ideas into words then attributing them to me. I agree, YOUR outlook on the "disadvantaged" is indeed vile and disgusting. I never said wealthy people have fewer children because they never have sex, YOU DID! I never said poor people have lots of children because they only care about pleasuring themselves, YOU DID! Stop attributing YOUR nonsense to me.
GregorSD 2 months ago
@GregorSD People who are poor have more children because they are economically unstable, and having children ensures that they will have somebody to provide for them in their old age. It was true of peasants in 1500, and its true of the inner-city poor in America in 2011. The solution is to pull poor people out of poverty and give them economic stability. Give them jobs. That is part of what OWS is demanding.
spartan2600 2 months ago
@spartan2600 - That's a real neat, and completely false, theory you have there. Children who grow up in that situation wind up more often than not either being abandoned or running away and very often do not know or care about where their parents are, nor do the parents care about the kids. THAT is the reality that you KNOW if you bother to actually BE compassionate and work among them instead of bloviating online about how superior you and your ideas are to anyone who disagrees with you.

@Longlivethe4th For reals! If unions were meant for safety and regulations. But their increase in wages makes all US products automatically more expensive. They don't understand basic economics or just plain ignorance.
dkchen 2 months ago
