The rest of the piece is ugly? Is that a joke? The third part with the violin solo is such the opposite. Sure, eroica may be a better heroic piece to some. I mean its amazing so it would be hard to beat, and thats why strauss uses the same key of e flat, probably because he wants to create something like Beethoven's eroica. And ny phil a fony?! First, ny phil is amazing, no one with a brain would disagree. This isn't sports, we aren't competing. Show some class you slob
Thanks for your fine conducting, and your willingness to explain things, even here. We really appreciate it when you don't stop too much at the open rehearsals!

Only the opening section of this piece "Der Held" is worthy of being played. The rest of the piece is ugly. Strauss lacked genuine feelings. All he had was sentimentality, and even this was scarce throughout his works. Merely compare Beethoven's "Eroica" with 'Ein Heldenleben' and see how strauss' sense of the heroic is pure fudge! Gilbert- ur a big fony just like everyone else associated with the NY philharmonic. Long live the Vienna Philharmonic!

@crimbo912 I actually tend to agree with this comment in it's entirety.
