You are right, they are hypocrites. I am not an Obama supporter but it is hard not to see the hypocrisy... but this hypocrisy exists just as much on the left unfortunately. American politics is basically Republican=Good, Democrat=Bad if one is a Republican and the opposite if Democrat. The truth is that both parties are just two different heads of the same beast. No surprise that the domestic politics of America are just as twisted as its foreign policy...

No, his knee jerk compulsion to blame every misfortune of black people or criticism of a black person on racism is what makes him a "self-loathing Southerner." Because there were injustices against blacks in the South, he assumes the mantle of some kind of collective guilt and overcompensates by infantalising blacks, believing that they're never in any way responsible for their own lives and problems, never holding them responsible, and thus in a very real sense disempowering them.

Also, blacks will never join the GOP, because the GOP doesn't care about the poor, needy or mis fortunate, which a lot of black people are. The GOP is a party for rich white people and Christian conservative wackos.

I think Carter's broad comments were part of the issue. He is asserting without facts to suport that racism is a large part of opposing Obama, yet not offering anything to corroborate his assertion save the stereotype of racist southerners. If his comment had been supported by something current and factual I don't think he would have ignited this shit storm.
