Nice trimmer. I have an Echo SRM-230 that I put a Shindaiwa Speed Feed head on it and its awesome. I also have A shindaiwa EB630 62cc backpack blower that i bought at a garage sale for $10 and its AMAZING!
what's the drive shaft inside like? splined? the t18 has a splined shaft and I'd like to take the gearcase off and add a hedge trimmer attachment to it. might take a bit of adapting but it seems possible to achieve.
There's no way you could put a hedge trimmer gearcase on the T18. The shaft is too thick. Plus the inside core spline isn't the right pattern, or shape.
@Zaxis450lc well what i did today is bought a nylon speedfeed cutting head for it, the dealers said the current blade on it was wore out but i went down there with intentions of buying a new one anyway. works very well, i'm very happy with it. :D
@Zaxis450lc 3 months on and the Speed-Feed head is still going strong. I'm getting another one next week for a McCulloch Cabrio 300 I use at work. I assume you're a commercial user?
@Zaxis450lc No I'm a residential user so I suppose it works well for me, I do garden maintenence at a church which has about 7 or 8 lawns so the shindaiwa gets fairly often use. But 27 yards a week wow, clear how you manage to afford this equipment now :D
@Zaxis450lc I tried it and it works on the t18 :D but since I've got the M242 now there's no need, I'm just saving up for a trimmer head for the m242 now :)
Never again will I buy a Stihl trimmer. Nothing but crap. They're supposed to be the best, but that's a real crock of ****.
I had a Stihl FS130R, and withing the first week that I had it, the carburetor started acting up. I ended up having to have the carburetor completely rebuilt. Luckily, it was under warranty. I ended up buying a Shindaiwa T272X to replace that trimmer while it was in the shop. My blower and saw will be the only Stihl tools I'll ever own.
I recommend the Shindaiwa T222 HomePro trimmer. It's the smaller version of this trimmer. The only difference between the two is the T222 has only one piston ring. It's very light. It's only $190!
I'm trying to get rid of my T231B. It's got a new carb on it, so it should last a while. I'm asking $100 for it. I'm in Ohio at the moment, so it would be cheaper to ship! Lol
I'm in Ohio right now. I had this shipped from Nevada. I don't have the T272X here, it's back in Hawaii. I'm trading it with a guy that does my repair work for parts. He's going to charge me $12.50 an hour for work now. I think it's a win-win situation, lol!
@KhmerDuval

The T242's shaft is a spline.

@Zaxis450lc aye suppose, perhaps it can be adapted if I got the oppurtunity to look at one in person before buying
Aled2929 1 year ago
I'm telling you, there's just no way! The engine is only 18cc, not enough power to get the blades running.

I'm suprised that thing still runs. The Speed-Feed head is the biggest POS ever. Mine is already cracked.
Zaxis450lc 1 year ago
@Zaxis450lc maybe you shouldn't chuck it in the garage when you're done ;) - anyway what sort of head do you use on these trimmers you have?

It's not a bad trimmer. I voided my warranty by taking the guard off, lol! Shindaiwa really sets strick rules concerning warranties.
