@Missjosie257 so do i and it sucked. my grandpa was in the flood. it almost flooded half his house. and my dads friend had water up to his neck on his 1st floor.
we were going to a town north of cedar rapids but we thought why not check out the flood, when we got out of the car... let's just say i hope i never have to smell that again... it was badddd
My house got hit HARD. The whole basement was flooded and halfway up the 2nd story. After about a year the house looks as good as new. It took a lot of work, but it was very hard. Sometimes I think this flood happened for a reason, so we could make some changes.
if you guys just lived threw this flood then you would know how horrible and scary it is! I know most of you that r leaving comments did but wasn't it scary?? for like a week the water was like past the Crown Plaza!! usually, the water would be 12 feet deep. Well when this flood happened, it was triple that. Yep. 36 feet deep.
That is the greatest loss (in my opinion). They are also saying that the childrens books on the second floor are ruined due to the concentrated flood water fumes.
omg. I cant believe they had to evacuate Mercy. It just kills to see how much higher the flood is now. Fortuantly im on a hill so i ddint get anything. But i HAVE cried for these people. They lost everything, and barley enought money to get it all back.
Right. This isn't the New York metro area, Chicago or Los Angeles where people have enormous wealth. Unless the Feds bail them out the people without flood insurance are devastated.
That includes many businesses and cultural milestones. The Library lost ALL of its materials. The Paramount is devastated, and the Science Station/IMAX is just ruined.
I think they should turn the downtown into a giant park and move the corporate sector uptown completely out of the flood zone. What's to stop this from happening again?
At the moment, nothing. It would be impractical to move everything out. You would have to move the largest cereal factory in the world, city hall, a couple of 20+ story buildings, and so on. It isn't just some small part of town, this is the majority of downtown of a 160,000 city.
how the fuck would people just walk around when a flood is comeing and there home is being flooded

The Cedar Rapids Public Library (downtown) lost its young adult, humor, adult and humor books, along with the CDs, videos, and DVDs!
