  • Very sad to announce the death of Rick Stawinski, January 1, 2012, at the age of 64 years. Rick played lead guitar with The Camel Drivers in the '70's. May you rest in peace and jam in the herafter.

  • What a beautiful "unreleased" gem by The Camel Drivers!- This compelling original ballad exhibits the profound diverse creativity of this awe-inspiring Detroit-based musical outfit. Quite a complete shift in musical gears from "Sunday Morning 6 O'Clock" to this superb track.

I can't wait to hear more of the "unreleased" Camel Drivers sound...Thank you Terry, for posting this incredible song!

  • I have a few other questions...Why was "Sunday Morning 6 o'Clock" the only Camel Drivers single issued on both Top Dog & Buddah?...All of your other 45's after "Sunday Morning" went back to being released on Top Dog only.

Also, why was "Give it a Try" used as the "B"

side on several of your singles?- Was that Artie Field's decision, or the bands?

What can you tell me about the singles "Im Gonna Make You Mine" and "Forgive Us" on Top Dog?...Did either of these records chart anywhere?

  • After Sunday AM reached the Top Ten in Detroit, a number of national record companies from New York and California bid for the national release. Buddah was selected by the group and Top Dog. Neil Bogart ( Buddah ) selected "I'm Gonna Make You Mine" to be the group's follow up release. Production differences ( Field's and Bogart ) led to Lou Christie getting the song and the group the shaft.

  • Fields had Publishing Rights to Give It A Try ( money ) and I guess he liked the song. Band thought it was kinda strange and wished he wouldn't have done it. I'm Gonna Make You Mine was released locally on Top Dog as a counter to Buddah ( a spite thing by Fields ) after Christie's version was already on its way to #1. Neil Bogart of Buddah originally brought the song to the group. We later reconnected with Neil & he offered a recording contract to Tom, Terry & Dave.

  • Were there any other "unreleased" songs or "alternate" takes that never have seen the light of day?...Did you guys ever have anything released on Invictus, or were your '45's just released on Top Dog and Buddah?

  • Yes.. Many unreleased songs ( will post in the future ) and many live recordings of hits by other groups such Crosby-Stills & Nash. With Invictus Records, owned by Holland-Dozier-Holland of Motown fame, we released a song, "Big Train" under the name Sweet Rock. It was distributed nationally by Buddah, the same company that picked up the Top Dog recordings.

  • I've just found the Camel Drivers again after a very long time. My sister and I used to come to the Driftwood as often as possible to see the guys. we even followed them to the Coral Gables in Birmingham a few times. This was back in the mid-70's. I can't wait for more tunes to be added. Thanks.

  • The group split from Fields and Tom and Terry were tied up in litigation with Fields for over a year. Holland-Dozier-Holland entered the picture and wanted the group to be their counter to Motown's, Rare Earth. Songs for an album were recorded, but the creative thing again. HDH wanted the group to record "Too Many Cooks Spoil The Soup". It just felt ingenuous to the group.

  • Jeff your the man
