love this damn interview. you really asked all the right questions.. whenever i see lennox commentating these days he still looks to be in great shape and physically imposing as ever. i'm sure he could compete in the heavyweight division though the klitschko's would be a stretch.
He wouldn't fight Vitali, because he knew Vitali kicked his ass the first time and he was scared of losing his belt. End of story! You can have a different opinion, but it's wrong!
lennox lewis i think your an amazing guy and one of the greatest heavyweights but you talk about fighting tyson like it was nothing. if you were so great why didnt you fight him when he was at his peak, when he was unbeatable, when no one wanted to fight him, you couldnt have beaten him then and you know it thats why it never happened, dont talk as if you were always better than him, even though ali was old he still admited that he was scared of tyson
Because Lewis was an amateur when Tyson was at his peak and in 1990 lost to Buster Douglas and was put in the slammer in 1992. Does that answer your question?
unlike quite a few other boxers, lennox seems like a really intelligent guy, not to mention courteous, polite and respecful, and he does not seem to suffer any problems with his ego and looks to be quite a down-to-earth and nice guy. great interview.
That really was an excellent interview. You gave Lennox plenty of time to answer questions without interrupting him. He was very relaxed despite you leaning almost in his face and seemed very happy answering your questions. You also asked the questions I would have asked him.
I think, that Lennox and Holyfield beat Tyson because, either he was having too many personal and financial problems, stressed, depressed or something, he was not the same fighter as he was before. I think if they had fought Mike in the 80's when he was doing ok and nothing to worry about, or maybe didn't care of his problem, Mike would have destroyed them.
Lewis didn't have to gloat and insult his opponents to look good. He didn't even have to swear just to show that he is intimidating. His punches did all the talking necessary. He beat everyone who bragged about destroying him and that's more than what anyone else can say...
Lewis,I s'd say am one of your greatest fan,but you forget some basic facts in this interview;in the second fight against Rahman you say u beat him in the 3rd round,
the fact is you beat him in the 4th.In the first fight he beat u in the 6th rd but u say 4th.
Its just a correction, but in any case to every objective minded boxing fan you were the best in the generation.
i love the enthusiasm of the intervierer and the respect he showed lewis.
lennox lewis was the best heavy weight of all time, all the heavy weights of old were way to small to cause lewis any problems. for all the people who dont agree with me, check out his boxing record, study it, and then leave a comment.
once again boxers only tell half of the story lewis speaks about beating tyson but by that time anyone would have beaten tyson. if lewis would have beaten tyson before the douglas fight or before he went to jail, ok but everyone knows he didn't fight prime tyson. like larry holmes bragging about beating an out of shape damaged ali, if holmes would have beating a prime ali in the 60's ok so they only tell half of the story. we all know tyson had 4 years off and ali 3 and 1/2 years &neverthesame
@jeryd2003 i agree with what you said (tyson being washed up) but there is also more to the story of tyson v lewis it is common knowledge in the boxing world that when tyson got out of prison and won the wbc title of frank bruno lewis was ranked number 1 by the wbc and they ordered tyson to defend his title against lewis which he did not. tyson gave up the wbc title and went for the softer option to fight bruce seldon who held the wba title some say don king told him tyson to do it
we see these fighters as being fearless but the truth is some what different and some of them are a lot more shrewder that we give them credit for (tyson) i believe tyson had no intention of fighting lewis any time soon and ducked him the same way tyson (before he went to prison) also did not want to fight george foreman tyson was a student of boxing history and tyson knew his style come forward inside fighter like Frazier ) would not do well against even a aging foreman
@Midiotwimp I'm sorry, let me try that again. Born in england, raised in the bigger colder england across the atlantic ocean which he then won a gold medal for in 1988. Yup, much more informative.
stop hatin' on Lewis that man is old, he's 44 yrs old man, Lewis is tooooo OLD for a comeback. who the fuck should he beat now? especially not klitschko, cause vitali has his best time ever, he came back with 37 now he's 39 and is strong like never befor. today nobody can kick his ass.
Ryedog87 you are talking crap. Tyson avoided Lewis for years because he was never good enough to beat him. Tyson won the crown in the worst ever heavyweight era. He only fought 2 class acts & lost all 3 fights. Vitali got bashed up so bad it is a surprise he is still able to box without the cuts starting.
good work. but lennox is such a retard. listen to him on hbo...he has no clue what day it is. he is not a legend. great fighters dont get knocked out by journeymen like hasim rahman. an old washed up tyson made him look ordinary. and failed to give vitali a re-match where he was lucky the fight was stopped.
He mixes up few unsignificant facts - like Johnson's first name and the number of the round, but then... what's the big deal about it?
As per Klitschko - he won first four rounds of their fight and lost last two and the fight was stopped due to the injuries caused by Lennox's punches.
Another thing is - Lewis wasn't in too good shape for this fight - he was the heaviest in his career (last time he was heaviest in his career is his loss to Rahman). So I was a bit worried b4 that fight.
heres the rules (unspoken) of boxing, make a name for yourself, get the big fights, make the big money, retire with a legacy, retire with good health, lennox played the game other great champs let the game play them, best wishes lennnox
A superb interview of a ambassador for the sport of boxing! Lewis is a legend and although he never did fight Tyson in his hay day and was losing to Vitali until the stoppage it all still goes down as a win,.. .
It's funny how Lewis gets his facts all wrong. Rahman finished him in 5 rounds, and he finished Rahman in 4 rounds. Also it's Kirk Johnson not Chris Johnson.
And finally, Lewis was the one who really wanted the Roy Jones Jr fight to finish his career and he was planning to do that just before his Klitschko fight. However after his awful performance against Vitali, he swallowed his pride and knew Vitali was the better man and he had to retire.
The Americans did not want to lose their face so they prevented Lennox to get Bowe all the time. One more person, Corrie Sanders of South Africa, very talented and long-time underrated guy who never fought Lennox as a puncher is also a big regret of Lennox's splendid career, anyway, I really like Lennox's vigorous personality.
I can't believe it's so much time past since his retirment that even he forgot that he was knocked out by rahman in 5th round and he revenged in 4th round next time, not 4-3 as he says
@boxingshowtv hey dude that was a very good interview but tell me,did you manage to get any confession outta him OFF camera about why he wouldn't give vitali a rematch, did he admit anything to you of that kind??or anything else you can tyhink of?
@Midiotwimp he just thinks it was unecessary to fight him ahain since he did not train at the time for vitali ( he was training for Kirk Johnson who got injured a few weeks before and they needed a replacement) and still Lewis manged to beat him. So in his head if he actually trained serious for Vitali it would have been the same result but way easier the second time around ... and that is why he felt he did not think he needed to fight him again.
@boxingshowtv however the rematch would've went,i guess we'll never know but remember that vitali only had the same time to prepare & he was never in a high contested battle b4 so if there had bin a rematch ,he would've bin much better prepared to,i'm certainly not taking sides,i just think if it had happened,it could've bin one of the ,if not the greatest boxing battles in history, just my view!
@boxingshowtv - True. After all, Lewis said in another interview that hunger is what motivated him in the sport, not just the money. If he fight again, it would only be for the money. I mean, Lewis out of shape and unprepared beats a stronger, younger Vitali and even if the match goes on Vitali's career would be ended. If he is lucky enough to survive the fight, there is no way he will win. Not with his eyes cut up so badly... A rematch would be unnecessary. Lewis would win just the same...
