  • Check out that footage at 1:44..What a sexy image, a beautiful woman dressed in black with a rifle. She's usually protecting her kids....I'm enjoying this show on METV.

  • Awesome lady. Emmy winner! Best part of The Big Valley. She worked the western runway in black. Starring Miss Stanwick 4ever.

  • song??

  • God!! This was one gorgeous lady!! Probably one of the best actresses there ever was, and ever will be.

  • As a kid growing up with 'The Big Valley' I feel in love with Barbara Stanwyck and am still a fan of her movies today. What an extraodinary actress!

  • I'm really enjoying the Big Valley every day on insp channel. I was too young to remember it the first time around but im totally knocked out everyday by the great stories and amazing acting by Miss Stanwyck! you just don't see that quality of acting on tv anymore. Amazing chemistry between her and the other actors! My new fav show!

  • There can never be another performer of the caliber of Stanwyck, there can be no question of that. The fact that we have her display her sheer professionalism in this series and in all her work before and after demonstrates for all time that this is what drive and talent produces. It has nothing to do with a fleeting hit record or a few appearances in Harry Potter, it is pure stardom whichever way you look at it. Stanwyck was a great star and always will be.

  • Interesting trivia here....Barbara Stanwyck insisted on doing her own stunts on this show. Pretty brave! And Lee Majors worked for the Parks Department when he landed the role of "Heath Barkley" on The Big Valley. He thought it would not make it and he would go back to his old job!

  • I'm a new fan to this show and therefore haven't seen a whole lot of episodes, but I have seen a lot to be completely amazed and/or blown away by miss Barbara Stanwyck, who was incredibly beautiful (both inside & out), and an amazingly tough old lady! XD Out of all the Victoria scenes I've seen so far, the catfight she has in "Empire of Rice" where there's fire, fireworks, swords, whips, falling debre, etc, is my favorite. :D:D:D

  • hey, u did a great job in this video, takes me back to a different time back when things were less hectic growing up in Montana and watching this show!

She wasone of the great ones and a true STAR!

  • @Dennyee No way! Maybe the hairstyles... but otherwise, she looked and sounded super young! The first time I watched an episode of The Big Valley, I was struck by how little she had changed since her 40s big screen roles.

  • barbara is so beautiful woman she was jahala alone u poznoj dobi nije tila kaskadera

  • This and the others are the best tributes to the Tv Series "The Big Valley"!!!

  • Oh MISSY! The world was a better place with you in it. There never was, nor will there ever be another like Barbara Stanwyck!! This tribute is wonderful!

  • RIP you served us very well

  • Victoria is my favorite character on Big Valley. i really wish more of the seasons would come out on dvd.

what episode is the clip at 0:48 from and the clip from 0:59 and the clip at 2:19

  • In her 60's With a full head if silver hair ms stanwick was still a very sexy sophisticated woman. I wold have made love with her untill one of died from a coronary, and it would probably be me:)

  • OMG I LOVE BARBARA STANWYCK SO MUCH. So beautiful and classy.

  • @HollyGoLightly1978 thank you for your comments.....she was beautiful and classy and one-of-a-kind......her like will NEVER be seen again in Hollywood.....long may she reign as "Queen Babs".....

  • Boy, does this tribute take me back to the days of my youth! It evokes such deeply personal memories for me. What a wonderful program this was! It's hard to believe that Barbara Stanwyck was only 58 when they started filming The Big Valley. She had such a commanding presence about her. Such class, such dignity, such poise.

  • @TheTweeter53 ....Thank you....your comments are heartfelt....

so glad you enjoyed my humble tribute to this great TV Classic.......still an underrated and under-appreciated TV classic from the great days of '60's TV.....

  • From what episode is 0:28?

  • @klropft "Night of the Wolf"....where Nick was bitten by a wolf and thought he was going to die within 30 days....little Ronnie Howard played in this show and so did Nancy Olsen.

  • JONROSE: you have literally found your possible ONLY twin on earth who shares your devotion to THE BIG VALLEY and it's cast members.

Just now read your January 2009 post to me and it send chills up my spine: it sounded like me writing verbatim!

    scott

  • I wish they had shown the clip where she stands up to Charles Bronson.

She really put the macho man in his place.

What a beautiful lady and one of the greatest actors in history.

  • There is this nice new video from Breton2Robert called: Sensuously, Softly Sultry Carole Lombard. Nice piece of work

  • Thank you so much. This is a beautiful tribute to a great actress. Stanwyck was a class act all the way. They don't make them like her anymore.

  • Barbara Stanwyck was a class act. This video is a beautiful tribute!

  • i liked her in black!!

  • wonderful, maravillosa

  • If her hair wasn't gray, she would not have looked like the mother! I loved this show back in the day and I was just a kid.

  • I was a little boy when the iraqi tv showed this wonderful series the big valley in the early eighties. I loved it sooo much. I love it now, I love it for ever. Mrs. Barkley was a fabilous actress.

  • Now THERE was a REAL actress: no baloney - she was so honest and real.

Some of her performances in this great show should have won more Emmies than the one she received

Perhaps the most underrated of all of Hollywood's classic movie actresses

Victoria was her crowning glory: one gets a sense that Stanwyck knew she was great in this and the show was a winner.

She was right on both accounts.

  • @scotnick59

You get no argument here. The single greatest American film actress I have ever seen.

With apologies to the other greats, who we know. But after 55 years of doing this, who else could have rubbed down a naked Richard Chamberland in THE THORN BIRDS, and convinced us about it?

  • Simply the best actress ever. She will always be my number one favorite of all time. No one else had a career as long as hers. She worked up until the very end. Loved her in the Big Valley as well as my personal hunk Lee Majors. Barbara helped Lee a lot in the Big Valley and I'm sure he owes much of his success as an actor because of her.

  • In an odd way, I think Miss Stanwyck achieved an even greater beauty in her maturity, than she did when she was a leading lady of the 30's and 40's. She positively radiant here. Lovely tribute.

  • Beautiful tribute

  • Thank You!....STANWYCK is beautiful here.....

  • I remember rushing home from school to watch this classy lady in the late '60's! she had grace, style, and nerves of steel. what a nice tribute to a beautiful star who dared [at that time] to make the transition from films to tv , and then found even more success!

  • Forever....forever in our hearts !!!

  • lindo recuerdo y hermoso homenaje! vale la pena verlo y recordar esos lindos momentos.gracias!

  • Fantastic Actress wonderfull

  • BEAUTIFUL......

  • Miss Stanwyck brought an entirely new grace and strength to primetime TV. Have you ever noted how straight her back is whenever she moves? All these years of training in the movie studios, I guess. She said more with one facial expression than most actresses said with an entire page of dialogue. A truly great, irreplaceable Hollywood legend. There will never be another like her.

  • Amen!

  • She began her career as a dancer--- and it still shows.

  • Barbara was never more beautiful. I wonder

how old she was during the Big Valley? Her

    skin and hair glowed.

  • Barbara was 58 when the show started and 62 when it ended..I agree she was a beautiful lady..

  • Just added this to my favorites..Thank you for posting..The show was always one of my favorites and the music is hauntingly beautiful

  • At 1:40, I believe that is Bruce Dern's face that she slaps.

For killing John Wayne, he deserved a lot more than that!!

  • Oh yes, you are correct...that Bruce alright.......she bitch slaps him a good one.....

  • Great work JONROSE

  • was she tv frist strong single woman??

  • Great tribute,BV is one of the best western shows I've seen, all wonderful characters, well written stories,i agree it should have lasted longer,so bad they dont do great shows like this any more.thanks jonrose44

  • This was a great show, and it deserved to go a lot longer than it did. Barbara's role started out with her often indoors in fancy gowns coming down the stairs, but she wanted more from it and later she became in essence the female "Ben Cartwright". A great actress and first class woman all the way.

  • As a kid I never missed an episode and like most young boys was smitten with Linda Evans' youthful beauty. That said, even at that age I could see the commanding class of Miss Stanwick. As the years pass and through the magic off film I become Miss Stanwick's "contemporary" I have come to see what an incredibly beautiful and talented woman she was. I guess it's one of the perks of getting older.

  • So glad you enjoyed. Yes indeed Barbara was the greatest among the greats. I discovered her at the young age of 15 and have been a fan since 1971. I have seen 95% of all her work on film and television. This was my humble tribute to her Big Valley days, but it doesn't come close to showcasing her talent, greatness and her commanding presence.

  • Simply lovely! Thanks for posting it for us Barbara Stanwyck fans.

    Mary-

  • I know all 600 plus members of the Valley-Dwellers BV group will love this fabulous video! I certainly do.

  • What is the 'Valley-Dwellers BV group'? Thanks.

  • My God...One of the most beautiful, haunting

themes ever composed for televsion. You

would NEVER hear something like this today.

How fitting a gorgeous them like this for one

of the grandest ladies to stand before a

movie or TV camera..."Miss Barbara Stanwyck."

  • Thank you so much for this delightful tribute i used to watch reruns of this show on PAX when I was little and absolutely loved it. Barbara Stanwyck was magnificent as the family matron appeared to be a sweet and loving older woman, but don't you dare cross with Victoria Bartley.

  • Simply beautiful! Thank you!

  • Great job--- great lady. TY.

  • Excellent video. I loved the Big Valley (love westerns in general) and have always enjoyed Barbara Stanwyck's acting. Great editing and the lyrical version of the show's theme music is so eloquent and heartfelt. Where did you find it? Love the choices of Victoria you made--they capture her character. It is very enjoyable and even caused a tear (must have been that music!). Many thanks for putting it together.

  • Thank you for your very nice comments. The music is actually from the original album soundtrack of "The Big Valley" TV series from the mid-sixties. Was able to find a great copy off ebay a few years back. Two-sided album of all Big Valley music. The album was recorded in the first season of the series, 1965, so the music from the 3rd & 4th season which had a more "westernly" feel is not on the album, but nonetheless it is priceless.

  • Great job with this tribute. I never missed an episode when I was a kid. I live in Europe now, and sorely miss the show. Miss Barbara Stanwyck was absolutely fantastic, as was everyone on The Big Valley.

  • Great tribute - thank you so much. I, too, grew up with this show & have loved Stanwyck ever since.

  • Thank You, she was and still is the best actress ever!

  • One of my favorite westerns. Barbara Stanwyck

    such a graceful lady.....

    Thank You for sharing !!!!!

  • great video, thank you so much! The first time I saw barbara acting was as victoria in The big valley and I loved her for her greatness as an actrees and depth as a person."There is such an amazing tragic stillness about her. She never steps out of it and she never put it on but it is always there She is more expressive and resonant than any other actress.." the queen, again nd for ever!

  • According to her biographies, she reigned surpreme on the Big Valley set. Was very much a part of the entire filming process and was just one of the guys on the set, the crews always loved her. I think she had issues with the sorry writing and scripts on "The Colbys" and she had issues with the younger prima donnas on the show. She had a very low tolerance for unprofessionalism and prestigousness.

  • Great job Jonathan! This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid and it was because of the great Barbara Stanwyck. I loved that Victoria was tough and respected.

  • Thanks so much! This was my all time favorite prime time TV show growing up. Loved the Victoria Barkley character and Jarrod was another favorite. Glad you enjoyed, STANWYCK was the BEST !!!
