  • This is an extraordinary film. Vastly underated. I agree the trailer is rubbish and doesn't do it justice. Christina Ricci was sublime. One of the best child actresses I've ever seen.

  • Upload this movie

  • I hear this movie is too hard.

  • Peter!!!!

  • It's funny because one year later Montreal and Québec had a huge icestorm.

  • Frodo!

  • New Canaan Pride

  • Frodo Baggins FTW!

  • is american beauty have similar themes to this film? i havent watched this movie yet

  • @dmyhre16 That's a good call, actually. I suppose both belong to the broad category of "suburban angst" films. You could also include "Little Children" and "Revolutionary Road". I have a special fondness for "The Ice Storm" because it really does capture the feel of the 1973--the tackiness, the narcissism, the dysfunctional families, waterbeds, Watergate, and the pervasive sense of nihilism (probably the nadir of post-1960's cynicism). It was a bizarre time to be growing up.

  • This is a very dark movie, not a family movie...

  • @LetsGetHighOnMorris But every family should watch it together so they can see the moral bankruptcy in liberal, northeast America.

  • This movie is so underrated. It's a really good and tough drama and I never see it around when they talk about the actors' fame, especially when it comes to Elijah, they never show this movie as one of those before LOTR. It's a shame, it was a really tough role.

  • itachiuchiha6969

I grew up in Madison on the shoreline -- wow went back two yrs. ago -- what the

heck happened -- way beyond pretentious -- sick.

  • What the fuck is with this trailer? The music makes it sound like some kind of feel-good, simple family movie that beats you over the head with its message. It's not.

  • It's Peter, Frodo, and the creepy Adam's Family girl!!

  • @quinnmyster TOP COMMENT

  • IT'S PETER PARKER!

  • Screenwriter James Schamus' tale of a dysfunctional family is an absolute gem and should have received an Oscar nod back in 1998. This film brings to light some of the most fascinating aspects of the seventies. Watergate, the sexual revolution, drugs and the generation gap. One of the best films of the last 20 years.

  • This is the only trailer clip available? In 240p? Come on.

  • can you upload the all thing pleeaassee !!! Want to watch this so much !! WHouahh sigourney weaver !!!

  • Ten times better than American Beauty...

  • @shawthingfilms ridiculous

  • @logant44 That's a matter of personal opinion and I have a right to state mine

  • Realisticly haunting flim about how peoples behavior and how it effects others.

  • وش تخربط انت وياة

  • 6 people have bad taste

  • Watched this in class today. Pretty good!

  • Frodo died electrocuted in this film =S

  • I guess that you must be an American and having lived all those years to understand that movie. I watched that movie some years ago and I didn't understand what was going on or where was supposed to be the message in there.

  • How come there aren't any niggers in this movie?

  • @douglas787 New Canaan, CT was and is a white, upscale town, In the original Moody novel there a few black characters mentioned in passing.

  • right now there is an ice storm in NJ!!!

  • connecticut oh boy!

  • @RLhockey203 why oh boy?

  • @joseph6231993 sadly its my home state hah

  • @RLhockey203 Well i live here and love it. I guess it just depends on what town you live in.

  • That's true. Kevin Kline, Christina Ricci and Tobey Maguire in the same family? That's not only strange, but weird.

  • lol i was about to say that Elijah wood reminded me of Tobey Maguire when the speak said the lsit of names and i was like: ooooh.. to its because it IS tobey maguire!

  • my favorite film

  • FOX is such a buncha petty greedy evil corporate cocksmokers for baning the Elija Wood- Christina Ricci kiss scene; my all-time fav. FUCK Rupert Murdoc!!!

  • So spiderman and speed racer's girlfriend are in this movie with the alien chick.

  • A great picture. One that is funny and soul searching. The ending will stop your heart and wring your tear ducts dry.

  • What wasn't good about this film? It was so weird. This trailer makes it look wholesome, and all "Wonder Years"-y.

  • @MissIcia I agree with you--this movie is just about perfect. As someone who was an adolescent in the 70's, I can promise you that the weirdness was a very faithful evocation of the times--a criminal president, lots of parents acting like sex-crazed teenagers, the tackiest clothes in the history of fashion, the bitterness over the ongoing war, and, for those of us on the east coast, that eerie, ice-coated winter. Irony was a favorite way of coping for many (a la the "Wonder Years" shtick).

  • Damn Sigourney!

  • this movie is so brilliant i havent seen it in 2 years

  • Who here SOOOOOOO wanted to SMASH Sigourney Weaver while watching this film???

  • I just read the book. I remember the movie having some impact on me, but the book...

It litteraly grabbed onto something inside of me. I'm 35 years old and have no children yet. But I feel the book told me what I should be aware of before I have any. It's like it broke it down like nothing else.

    Thank you, Rick Moody.

  • @Calvarienberg it was the 90s...

  • What a horrible trailer for such a good movie. I love this movie. i can watch it any time over and over.

  • @gavincasablanca ICAM! "The Ice Storm" is one of my favourite films, but this trailer, with its happy underscore music makes it seem like a romantic comedy.

  • @mthivier , Yeah, I agree. Although I think the score in the trailer takes it a step further; it's the aural version of a big neon sign flashing "FAMILY-FRIENDLY MOVIE! HEARTWARMING HOLIDAY PICTURE!" Heh, this movie is anything but. I was hoping the trailer would feature some of the score from the movie itself; that's moody and introspective and fits the picture.

  • @gavincasablanca Got me interested:)

  • Love this movie! Speaking as one who was unfortunate enough to be an adolescent in the 70's, this film really does capture the feel of those times, even though it got some of the minor details wrong (the reference to "parental units" around 1:05 is an anachronism - the TV show "Mork and Mindy" was first broadcast in 1978).

  • Oh my gosh, Christina Ricci is so cute here! :D

  • Oh my god, this trailer was hideous.

  • This trailer is horrible. It doesn't do the film justice, at ALL.

  • @MelissGirll Yeah, this film really shows the moral bankruptcy of liberal, elite northeastern "Americans" who fail to live up to the stringent set of family values that we observe here in the Heartland. A brilliant expose of the fraud perpetuated on us by the libtarded elites.

  • this was really the trailer??!?!!?!?!??!?!!!!? This would have to be one of the coldest, bleakest dramas of its time. It dealt with many of the same themes as 'American Beauty', but in a far more satisfactory way IMO. Watched it recently and it has aged really well. I agree with one of the comments below that it's a 90's film but if it came out today it would have the same impact, unlike, say, Pulp Fiction ;-)

  • that woman is from avatar! isnt she? grace?

  • when i finish the moive you can watch it on youtube, but i am working of the edge of love right now

  • where can i watch this whole movie?

  • Hello guys, I Am Posting this movie on youtube! 3 parts a day

  • Such a good movie watched it today on Movie Extra. Such a 90s film. The trailer is shit though it makes it look like one of those lame Romantic Comedy Dramas but it isnt though. Really its very dark, and twisted...a typical christina ricci movie. I like what she contributes with the erotics. Kevin Kline is a great actor.

  • This trailor kinda ruins the end i think, i never saw it but at 2:19 the girl is wearing black in a grave yard saying that someone died, and at 2:15 - 2:17 may have been the cause of death. they need to be more careful

  • I dont know who the fuck made this boring stupid lame shit trailer for one of the BEST FILMs of all time. Sorry, mine2cent, its not your fault :). This trailer has nothing to do with the film. The film is genious . Ang Lee is a genius.

  • I WANNA SEE THIS MOVIE SO BADLY!!! :(

  • It was called Snow Bound

  • I dont know the name of the movie. It was made for television and has been used on another program something like "we shouldn't be alive" type show. It was based on a realife story. In realife the couple was later divorced. Too bad.

  • Anyonje know the name of a movie?

When thier car braks down the man woman and baby are lost in the snow. The man goes to look for help leaving woman and baby in cave.

    Please help

  • i don't think christina ricci like thanksgiving...

  • This movie made me depressed. Excellent movie, though.

  • this film is an absolute masterpiece. although it did indeed flop commercially, it is a brilliant piece of work by Ang Lee. Well written, beautifully acted, succeeds on every level. 5 stars for this movie. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the rental. Anyone who loves movies will love this one.

  • A great drama about dysfunctional family and dark side of inside every american house stirred up with sexual revolution and political intrigue at 70's.

PERFECTLY MARVELOUS PICTURE! Unfortunately, it was flopped commercially..

  • I love how they gave Christina a lot of screen time during the trailer. That girl is good.

  • "Once there was a time when families were strangers." Unlike now, is that it? Sheesh!

This is probably oneof my Top10 favorite films, but the trailer doesn't do it justice. It almost leads one to believe it's in the same reign as Good Will Hunting, at least that's what the music is reminiscent of.

Ang Lee really did a nice job of portraying Connecticut in the bitter fall around this time of year. Really nice. New Canaan is a nice town, too.

  • I lived and went to school in New Canaan in 1974/75. Real boozer of a town! I think I counted something like 25 bars and liquor stores in that small village.

  • @marcnet450

Come on, really? I drove through their downtown area about a year or so ago. There were a few liquor stores but I didn't notice THAT many. Have you been there recently?

  • @CTyankee4277

I said - liquor stores AND bars. Yes, that's what I counted back in those days. Really!

I'll be going back for a visit in August. Last time I was there was 2 years ago. I have not actually counted these places again though since back in those days.

  • @marcnet450

Hahaha, I'm not arguin with ya, I was just surprised. But then again, maybe I shouldn't be - I could see WHY it would be a boozer town, LOL! :)

  • I just saw this. Wow. Excellent.....

  • This film pretty much was american beauty with snow, brilliant direction and a incredibly memorable film.

  • doesn't suprise me at all. it was directed by one of greatest film director (talented and versatile) which has mastery in tear jerker(melo)drama : Ang Lee. I just watched yesterday and like other films he had done : This one was AMAZING!

  • Tobey...*siiiiigh*

  • The film was just brilliant. It really nearly broke my heart. Every performance is perfect. The direction by Ang Lee is deliberate and painful as he slices into you with the lives of those he makes you watch. It looks amazing, in a beautifully bleak way.

Sigourney Weaver deserved at least to be nominated for Oscar

  • Family is a black hole that will suck Wow ! Once again Mr. Ang Lee directs so unexceptionable, this familys story of rich bourgeois who, in private, hidden tensions, frustrations, adulterers, exchange of pairs, conflicts between generations, until a real ice storm paralyzes all, causing a totally blackout, kills a boy, and all senses.

  • Tobey Maguire's awesome! :)

  • I remember them filming this in my hometown (New Canaan). It was strange seeing the 1970's-era signs up on a lot of the businesses, 70's era cars parked on the streets, the pharmacy had 70's products and racks, and "icicles" hanging from the train station when it was 70 degrees out.

  • Spent some time there myself ( Norwalk )Connecticut is a beautiful state.

  • One of my Favorite movies ever!

  • i love this movie, always makes me cry lol. Elijah= yum yum yum:). x

  • One of my favourite movies and one of the best movies about America of 70s.

Every scene has a deep meaning ,describes the feelings of the characters and makes a very pointed criticism of american society of 70s.Besides this movie always gives you the feeling that under "coldness" ,finally sth tragic and frightening will happen, just like the atmosphere of a thriller.

    AngLi is a pure genius!!!!!

  • Dri, this movie is very sensitive. Only an outsider and a great artist as Ang Lee would be able to portray the U.S. society in the seventies so well and in a such sensitive way. It shows how families never should be and I'm pretty sure my family will never be like those. Ice storm is a rare weather phenomenon, but here it is also how relationships look like. I've watched it on theater. Great movie.

  • Ice storm and a family disintegrating, that's interesting. I like Ang Lee too. =)

Your family will never look like this one, they will read books together and more!

  • P.S.: First link again! =B

  • Really? I'm not quite sure :)

  • I'd not lie to you. =)

  • I know it! I was just kidding due to the coincidence :)

  • love tobey, love elijah and adore this movie

  • the movie's great, but the trailer it's TERRIBLE

  • where can i see the movie for free?

  • Yeah, makes it look like the feel-good family hit of the summer, when it's really a million miles away from that. It's closer to 'American Beauty' than 'Stepmom'.

  • id only watch it to see elijah lol

  • wow, elijah wood and toby mcguire in the SAME movie.

    it's like a hot-fest!

    :D

  • great, disturbing and sad movie.

  • im gonna download this

  • The kid who dies by electrocution. That part was almost like it was real..

  • AHHHH! All these super amazing actors and actresses in one film? Its like an overdose of awesome!

  • You should never put Toby Maguire and Elijah Wood in the same movie, i always get the confused.

  • My favourite part was when Christina Ricci said "Thanksgiving grace".

  • does anyone know where I can watch the film online(no matter how poor quality)?I searched for it but...nope:(

  • This is still small town CT heeeeeeeeee heeeeeeee

  • @ncarolinaluv Yeah really! I live right outside New Canaan and it looks exactly the same!

  • This movie is truly magnificent. That's what happens when great actors get a good screenplay and a talented director.

  • This film is brilliant!

  • I wonder how they managed to pay all those stars. Nearly every role is played by a famous star. Did they get less money?

  • excellent movie

  • i wanna see it now

  • I'm too!

  • This trailer doesn't match the tone or storyline of the film. The voice over and the music are so bad. Too bad- it was good.

  • you are totally right

  • Yeah I agree, the voice and music make it seem so soppy & lame. But you gotta see it, it's really good. It's even better than "My life as a house" and "American Beauty" which are both really good too. (I feel dumb - I always thought it was Jake Gyllenhaal)

  • ohh i know now, i actually went out and bought it.. and watched it, and this doenst match the Storyline at all!, but its still a really good movie =D

  • I had limited release, according to Wikipedia, and only grossed 7 million.

  • Thank goodness for Criterion. If it wasn't for them, I'd never have even known this film existed.

  • It's a really great movie. Very deep I loved it.

  • That doesn't mean it isn't good.

  • Absolutely the BEST film of the 1990s, as far as I'm concered.

  • How come I don't remember this movie ever coming out? I seriously never even heard of it until now. I wanna see it!

  • ok yea we get it.
