  • @MegaJake619

  • How many trains were there? Sometime one caboose, sometimes two, sometimes none ...

  • Excellent Video

  • In Germany we don't have this impressive scenic views but the sound of "Harz Querbahn" locomotives (narrow gauge 1000 mm) is more than compensating. ;-)

Nevertheless I enjoyed your video. It's terrific. Thank you.

  • Excellent video. Love the scenery

  • I WAS ON THE D&SNGR A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. IT WAS GREAT AND I HOPE TO BE BACK NEXT YEAR!

  • great trave...i like silverton...

I have also been on this train, but only in summer times. The winter atmosphere is great.

  • Fabulous sound, great editing, no boring parts. One of the best I have ever seen.

  • #473 is the best (and most unlucky) engine on the D&SNG. Roundhouse fires, potato trucks, nothing can keep her down for long. Thanks for posting this great video.

  • 2-8-2

  • She's beautiful

  • Somehow that old engine going past a McDonalds just doesn't look right! lol

  • Its a beautiful video capture, I love steam rail Engines. The whistle is amazing, remind me of the old days, when we use to travel, from Quetta, Baluchistan to Punjab,in Pakistan. That railway line was built through high rugged mountains, its was a special engineering feet. If you want to see, put in youtube: Pakistan Railways 1994 - BBCs great railway journeys - Karachi to Peshawar P2.

It was filmed in 1994 by a BBC (British Broadcast co.) journalist , Mark Telly a renowned Journalist.

  • My wife & I rode this train in the summer to Silverton. I work on the railroad, so most train videos don't catch my eye, but this was well done. I like the videos from on & off the train. Great job! Love to see one in summer too!

  • Recently rode up to Silverton, 3 days after a big snow in late May. A wonderful trip.

  • i ate at that mcdonalds lol

  • I was there last summer, I love this train ride.

  • @SantaFe5central engineer

  • OMG A CABOOSE! I WMAN WOW THOSE R RAE TO C AROUND HERE!

  • Fantastic video !!! the best I have seen on rail roads yet - congratulations on a good job well done

  • Wow, I watch the whole video, and loved it. This does not happen very often for me, lol

  • Great Video!

  • Nice video. My family was from Durango and it's a special place

  • Those are some magnificent looking coaches.

  • The fireman is not very good at his job.... twice he triggered the safety valve, and "Popped off", and once while he did it he "Blew Down" the boiler... makes for a lot more work than is necessary.

  • @dlrion We at the railroad have heard your concerns, we had the fireman executed.

  • @dlrion I used to think so too, but you have to remember that this was one of their special "photography" trips, where all the passengers are photographers. They even let them get off, back the train up so they can shoot it coming back around the corner at them. (that was what the "deer" comment was about at 4:40 in the video- the other photographers). Anyway, I think they pop the safety intentionally because it's more dramatic and makes a better photo/film, even if we might know better.

  • Did anyone notice the deer in the lower left at 4:40? Very nice vid hee. Been on this train more times than I can count and I still enjoy the ride everytime I am in Durango.

  • What HD camera did you use? This is a wonderfull video!

  • Certainly well done, thanks.

  • Great video!

  • which year was this?

how did you keep the camera stable & what camera did you use?

Based on the snow I did it a different year shooting HD and I've had a horrible time trying to stabilize it post-production.

  • @rallymax2 I'm guessing a fluid head tripod like I use when I set out for a day of railroading. When I travel OS I settle for a mono as my tripod is just plain too heavy to drag around.

  • I don't use this word lightly, but an AWESOME video, and THANK YOU!!!!

  • Great video!! Cheers from Australia

  • That was amazing. I live in Durango and I love that train. You really did a good job with this video

  • so awesome! rode it in august 1991, i'll never forget it!!!

  • That McDonalds has been there forever. Last timeI was there was the 80's.

  • Spectacular images. Nice job.

  • I rode this railroad in 2008,It was great, wish I was there now...

  • It has 3 rails ? A cogway?(at 7:37 )

  • no, the third (or fourth)rail is often used on dangerous points where a derailment can make the train collide to rocks aside or fall from a bridge.

Or where derailments may occur. like in sharp curves.

    There are different techniques:

with more space between the rails it shall just prevent the train to leave the rack after a derailment.

With less space between the rails it can prevent the train from derailing.

  • I have a friend who used to work for the D&S as a fireman.

  • haha i see myself on the caboose. =D

  • Fantastic video!! The Durango and Silverton route is really spectacular. Thanks!
