The welded wire is cheap from Lowes or Home Depot and comes in small 10' and 20' rolls. The emt 1/2 conduit is in the electrical section. The sheet of sheet metal came from my local heating & cooling supply house. If you don't have a brake clamp two 2x4's together on your line on each side of the sheet metal and bend it pretty easy that way. (Lay the metal down on the floor and put one 2x4 under the metal on the line and one on top on the line and clamp together).
I bent 2 aluminum u channels and slipped one inside the other. Then I placed the welded wire floor toward the top between the two channels and attached the channels with rivets to the outside sheet metal. I also added a few short rivets from top down so the welded wire couldn't slip back out with weight on it. The inner channel I slide in a large piece of sheet metal covered with newspaper or 24" painters paper to catch the dropping.
Yes 60w worked great for me but if your in a cold basement you may need 100w. If there cuddled up in the middle they are too cold if they are way to the outside it is usually to hot, if they are pretty spread out it usually fine. The height adjustment will also help but if they are cuddled tight together directly under it and you are adjusted down low then you need hotter bulbs. At 6 weeks in the bigger cage we put a red bulb on top, not for heat but to keep them from pecking each other.
I just happened to be fortunate enough to have an aluminum brake for siding and fascia material. You can purchase J mold from Home Depot or Lowes for the u channels. The large bends can also be done by C Clamping a 2x4 to both side of the metal on your line and bend it that way.
hye i think your video is awesome i made myself a cage actually took me like 3 hours n some hard work n thanks it just made mine look like garbage haha but its ok at least i learned how to make a better one thanks
Not in the video but I do now. It is better to hinge the welded wire doors from the bottom instead of the top that way they hang down out of the way and you don't have to hold them open while attending the chicks. Plus make them big enough, sometimes you have to reach in with both hands to get or corner ones in the back.
excellent work, nice commentary. A+

What kind of light bulbs are you using? The space doesnt look large enough for a heat lamp bulb. Are they just regular light bulbs?
