Dessay presents to us the same acting style over and over again. Her interpretations are always boring and predictable; her style never changes, no matter what she performs. Just watch her Sempre Libera – it is nauseating. Her singing, especially high notes are metallic and unpleasant. Here she looks like a vagrant, pathetic, stray cat. Who in the right mind would believe that this neurotic, phony girl inspired a great love? What a pity Dessay is corrupting Lucia at the MET this year again.
Voiceless? The person who posted this comment may be high or something similar. How can you say this singer is voiceless? Haha! You gotta be kidding! Can you do any better than her?
Natalie Dessay, in her continued progress towards greater artistry, still doesn't know what opera is about
In recent years, Dessay's top notes have been shrieky and metallic, cold, effortful, and generally unpleasant to the ear. The disdain she has for top notes is therefore understandable. She tends to compensate with buffoonish histrionics, overacting the pieces of meaning she gleans from the (mostly bankrupt) text.
@09avenger What are you getting out of posting the same comment on all these videos of Dessay singing this? Does it give you some sort of sense of achievement that you can copy and paste rude, disrespectful comments about a great performer on youtube? If you don't like it, fine; you don't need to post the SAME comment on every video to let the world know just how much you hate it.
Oh, yes, we heard that before! The fact that Dessay's voice is unattractive and is weak and childish, does not mean anything? Dessay's acting is bad, if not for music one will never distinguish between her Amina and Lucia. Oh, I forgot Dessay is ugly - that should be a plus! So, she got a "proper" training, so why then Dessay was booed at La Scala? Because people in Italy know a thing or two about beautiful singing, they mostly value the voice, and there Dessays perfect training meant nothing!
As talented as she is I'm upset that a recorded performance of this is being played at my local movie theater instead of a movie. Not my idea of fun and I am going to protest.
I disagree. I believe TV and theatre needs to be a vehicle we use to bring Opera and Classical music in general to people who might never have appreciated it or had access to it otherwise.I would LOVE to see this...I mean, I'd love to have seen this at the MET- but I think it would be a worthy of my 8 dollar ticket to watch it on a big screen with surround sound....
Excelente iniciativa del MET de sacar la ópera a la calle. Estuvo muy bien el elenco en salir a saludar a la gente frente al teatro, cuentan que Caruso hacía lo mismo y a veces cantaba a capella para los que no habían podido entrar...
What an incredible performance. I was lucky enough to have tickets inside the opera house for opening night. What a way to spend my last night in New York City!

She sounds haggard and soooo strained...This is obviously a fine example of many other coloraturas pushing their delicate voices towards a disaster.

I do not see how this can be even compared to Netrebko, Dessay screams a lot and her acting is an overkill, terrible!

Dude, just because you don't like opera doesn't mean everyone in your neibourhood doesn't deserve the chance to enjoy it!
If this Met in the movies campaign is indeed crap and no one likes it it'll be off long ago, and it's still here.
Besides, don't all theatres have like 15 shows running simultaneously? :P
