Are we going to say Metloef, Darius Bartlett, Alfonso just to name a few other Lambeg makers are rip off artists too? I don't think so. I don't think someone like Rolf Wagels would endorse Hedwitschak drums if there was any doubt...and he does endorse them.
That's basically what I wanted to say. Actually I've just tested one his new Dragonskin modells and I must say that this is really great stuff. Certainly there are many other excellent bodhranmakers around, but to call him a rip-off is utterly absurd and nonsense.
Seamus also likes Christian and his work. We sticked to his dimensions because he researched a lot in what is the best compromise between depth and playability. So no point reinventing the wheel. The skins are cured by the Lambegmakers. You are welcome to do a blind test between Seamus drums and the RWE and see if you can spot the difference.
careful what you are saying. We have Seamus O'Kanes permission for everything we do whith the RWE and through his help we got in touch with the skinmakers that he uses, so we "sourced" them with his help. Seamus is a gentleman and he helped us a lot developing this drum.
..but from the sound, Mr O'Kane obviously has many skin curing techniques, that he has not shared with the immitators: i.e. they simply are not O'Kane bodhráns.
I wouldn't be too hard on Christian. He makes excellent drums with different skintypes, not only lambegs. His production quality and his handtuningsystem are quite unique. I wouldn't give away my O'Kane, but I've played several instruments that were very close.
Seamus O'Kane's bodhráns IMHO the best around. Sure that Christian guy's are just an immitation of Seamus O'Kane bodhráns, including ripping off *coughs* his dimensions, he even sourced the same goat skin guy... hilarious, blatant rip off!
Yes, you can. Most active members are also english speaking and I think there has just been introduced a purely english section...You're certainly welcome to post. It might be an idea to register first though. :D
Did you change out the tuning blocks and hardware on the drum in this video? I am familiar with the design and materials Seamus uses and what you have there does not look like the norm. Interested to hear about it.
Jees that bodhran sounds awful dead and dry you are doing too much damping at the back

Nice playing. Try sitting on a seat that allows your upper legs to be horizontal.

Yes, I inserted a self-made aluminium handtuning system.
My system was discussed on the german bodhran forum:

You can also find a couple of pictures and a building instruction there.

Hi! This one is a Seamus O'Kane drum, which is a bit hard to get at the moment. Try www.bodhranmaker.de
Christian Hedwidschak makes excellent drums.
