  • I tried almost everything, but still can't find it to download and play on pc ..... help, anyone?

  • i used to love this game

  • I can't remember how many hours, make that days, of my life I spent playing this game. It was really good. Thanks for the video!

  • i had a game called "blue max 2000". talk about obscure.

  • One of the rare games where the intro song was better on the Atari 8 bit machines...

One of the best games, I almost finished it, but not quite back in the day. It was really long to reach the end.

  • obscure?? This was teh shit back then

  • Just to hear those sounds again made me smile.

    Thanks for the nostalgic flashback!

  • I played this on the spectrum ,one of my top favorite games.

  • I used to play this game all the time when I was younger. I never finished the game but I did make it to the city once. I was so shocked that I made it there that I wasn't looking where I was going and crashed into a tall building. I never did see that city again. By the way G means gun so when you get it your machine gun doesn't work as well. M gives you limited movement so its harder to control the plane. Thanks for making this video. Its nice to see games again from my childhood.

  • génial!

  • one of the best games on the c64 I loved to fly under the bridges.

  • you can do that???

I LOVE THIS GAME, play it still :)

  • Nice vid, good commentary. I played this game too. Iirc i was not very good (much worse than the poster:)

I think i had an illegal copy (tape) bought from a friend of a friend. For me that was the OBSCURE part, lol. Very mysterious process in those days;)

  • 'Much worse than poster' i take that back. Cause i just saw another playthru of Blue Max and saw the ending part. I remember now i did that too.

Ah well, i was an average (but fanatic) gamer back then and i'm still now (average and fanatic that is;)

  • If you pull hard to the right (or was it left?) of the screen, isn't there a "secret" area? I forget the exact location.

  • This isn't actually obscure :)

  • F stands for Flaps. G stands for Landing Gear. M stands for Motor damage. B could stand for Bomb Hatch could be damaged. i dont understand how you dont know what any of these stands for, its easy.

  • i had this game !

i've never loved any ather game as this one !!!

it was amazing ! very innovative !

  • This was one of the games that was most desired in the family, but unfortunately we never got it :)

Good to see it finally being played. Are all those tanks targets? I think it's kinda neat that the targets are procedurally generated, but not if the stupid things are impossible to hit! :)

  • Yes,you can strafe the tanks.

It feels great doing that, but you usually don´t survive very long. :-)

  • are u napoleon dynamites brother?

  • you should fly under the bridge..i remember that it was possible..

  • Nice commentary. I used to play this game twenty years ago, but I'm pretty sure I never noticed the primary targets. Brings back memories, but also makes it pretty clear that I'm not missing out on anything by not playing this one again :-)

  • Do you remember the damage model? I wonder if M might mean machinegun... or maybe G? Or is that landing gear? Now I have to look this up somewhere...

  • Too much talk dude.

Heavy bad bombing and u didn t even finish the game.

Haven t u ever bombed the 3 temples at the end of the game ?

Then u become BLUE MAX or FLYING TIGER probably.

  • I loved this game, unfortunately I had to play it on a black and white TV. Which of course means that I couldn't see the flashing targets and so I never understood the game completely. A neat trick when you get an "F" is to get as high as possible while you still have fuel, and sometimes you can glide long enough to make it to a runway. I had to do it three times in one particular run!

  • Those were the days!

  • Thanks for posting, this game brings back memories!

I remember, quite often, landing to refuel and a plane would come and bomb me.

  • I remember playing this one quite a bit, but couldn't remember the name until now. Good video.

  • i loved this game. had know idea about the flashing targets, but still beat it four times. i always thought the Red Baron would come out at some point.

  • Great game, this and Spy Hunter were my first games on the C=64. Got quite far in it too.

  • The author of this video made the mistake to fire an targets that aren't marked. If you do this too much, the game assumes that you play just for a maximum of points, and will eventually remove the blue highlichted targets, so that you can never "win" the game. I was only able to finish it when I was exclusively targetting the highlighted enemies!

  • used to play this

  • Wow, this is a pretty good game.

  • WOW i have not seen this game since aprox' 1983 or 1984. thanks for posting

  • From what I have seen...

"B" means Bomb Bays - 50% chance of failure on dropping a bomb when the "bomb motion" is performed.

"F" means Fuel Tank - Doubles Fuel consumption.

"G" means Machine Guns - Halves firing rate of your guns.

"M" means Maneuverability - Your left and right movement speeds are halved.

  • I believe the "M" means motor or engine failure. IRC, when you get it, you can't fly steadily and it makes it a bit difficult to aim (as you can't maintain specific altitude). And the "G" must mean a slight malfunction in your guns, you can still shoot, but your fire rate will drop. I might be wrong, because I haven't played this in ages.
