When you try to copy an original dance, which many of the dance schools do so, their teachers will make modifications to costume, choreography as they see fit. I think you are reading way too much into this whole thing. The original Chinese qipao will never have a slit that reach a person's thigh, but many actresses when they wear this outfit now will have this modification made. I believe we didn't make the pants for budgeting only.
What a funny immitation?!!!!!!!This is originally a World Golden Cup winning Uyghur dance, but it is danced by ugly Chinese girls, it just lost its original masmorizing beauty.
The body movements, clothing are inappropriate and somewhat humiliating to my great Uyghur culture. They shoud not have exposed their bellies and legs, the bowls usually are Big bowls, not like these small bowls used in this dance, above all, they should not have even tried to mimic the dance as they can't
At least, the shameless teacher, of course, not the choreographer, should respected our culture. The actually choreographer is one of the most famous Uyghur dance choreographer Lady Helichem Sidik, she used years to come up with this beautiful dance movements, and I am very sorry for her work because this so called Sun Ling, the Han Chinese dance teacher merely taught the dance seeing the video of the original one,
so this Han Chinese dance teacher does not deserve to be called Choreographer as it is put so at the beginning of the dance. She actually simply stole the dance without permission, and called herself the choreographer of this dance, she should be in prison for this!!!!
I hope people try to understand the culture before steal something from other.
Even the poster of this video did not put Uyghur correctly, but put the Chinese spelling of it. I BEG your apology for this!
WTF you are talking about, this dance is from XinJiang Academy of Performing arts, the original dancers are both Uyghur and Han, many of them graduated from Chinese arts universities, some Uyghur girls go to Chinese central dancing university, Beijing Dancing university, Xian music arts university. Although this dance is a Uyghur style dance but it's still a Chinese dance. those uyghur girls are Chinese too, you are an Uyghur on exitle, are not welcomed to enjoy our Chinese dance.
Well, first of all, Watch your language when you say things. I did not say Uyghurs are not from China, but I said the not Han Chinese which is in English misrepresent the word Chinese. Chinese is a nationality not an ethinic group originally, but it is not understood that way in many cases. Secondly, Uyghur dancers go to inner Chinese universities, it does not make them Han, still they reperesent the Uyghur culture first then overall Chinese Culture.
@tiezi00 You know, it is not written as what you say in the beginningo f the video. I am sure you read Chinese, so don't get that excited before you actually understand what I was talking about. The dance teacher was titled as the choreographer, which is a mistake, even you know that. Also, they performed really poorly comparing to the original dance which is perfomed by the Uyghur dancers. It is very obvious they are not even perfessional, so they deserve criticism for stealing the dance.
OK, talking about this video, the dancers are not in China, they are in Toronto, Canada, and they are beginners just start to learn this dance, How could you expect them dancing like professionals as XinJiang dancing academy uygur girls did?
I do not care how they do, but I have the right to express what I think, not what I should expect. It is just annoying when they put their name as choreographer, and did not pay attention to cultural aspects. So, that is simply what my logic is, no worries.
@yardandy This was filmed during our school performance, I have no say over what gets written. You seem to think that we dressed "poorly", however, the costumes that we worn were almost exact replica of the costumes used in the original dance. So if you think that we dressed poorly, doesn't that mean you also think the original dancers dressed poorly?
If you look closely into any proper Uyghur dance, the women always wear pants inside the long dress, they never expose their legs bare like the girls in this video which is an insult to Uyghur culture. At least they should have worn shorts at their knees. That is why I say it was inappropriate. You may check the original video, and they all wear pants.
@yardandy Further more, every one who danced this knew that it was not the original. It was modified in many areas to accommodate the fact that we didn't have as many dancers as the original. And before you accuse my teacher of being shameless, I'd like you to know that this DVD was intended for the girls in my dance school, it only makes sense for my teacher to put her name there. She modified it, she taught it to most of the girls in my group, we all knew there was an original... (cont'd)
@yardandy We all knew there was an original, and we all aspired to be as good as the original. Sure, you can say that we danced poorly, but we weren't trying to make a political statement, so I don't understand why you would be so angry about a bunch of dance students doing what they love. It was a difficult dance to do, and there are a lot of subtle nuances in the dance, and we tried hard to express that.
I did not make any political statement, but as I love and adore this dance so much, and respect the original choreographer so highly, I could not stand when others shamlessly put their name on without mentioning the original choreographer. The change is very subtle to the original one that it is very easily seen that it was just mimicked the original one with very little modification for which one should not say it was her work at all. I just love my culture,I'm not political.
@yardandy If you look through my youtube videos, you'll see that I uploaded the original video years ago. No one in my school is under any illusions. You're welcome to take a look at the other videos of our performances, and leave constructive criticisms there.
Sure, I mean you can definitely do any dance including Uyghur dance as long as you are doing it propersly; at least not insulting way to a cutlure, because you would represent that particular culture when you are doing the dance. So just be sure to learn more about the cultural aspects. I appreciate that you adore Uyghur dance as to get through this much pain to do this dance, I am sure it was very hard for you at first.
I know Mongol people have bowl dance, but which is better totally depends on one's asthetic taste, not what you say is true for everyone. Don't try to put exile or whatever shit on people you don't know. I do love my country, but these dancers showing my culture in poor way. They did not understand the cultural aspecats of Uygur dance, and dressed poorly. You think it is bad because they performed poorly. See... I show respect to other cultures, hope they do the same, you do the same.
The dance itself looks nice but none of the girls are dancing in sync. And the camera work is a little annoying... "here, watch this for 2 seconds. Now look at this for 2 seconds. Now we're going to zoom way out..."
Its Uyghur dance. Uyghur are islamic people in western China and they contributed a lot in Chinese culture. Xinjiang is the most beautiful part of central Asia. In fact, Its capital Ururmqi has more building and more developed than Astana or Almaty of Kazakhstan.
