  • I like how its not like many other videos. It makes it look easier and you get how to do it if you have some basic knowlledge.

  • I'm gonna do something like this in my woodshop class.

  • @Kyler2013

Yeah. These would be better then learning how to make a chair or a stool... Not only does it require more hard work but its a longer process and if you learn how to make good guitars you make lots of money and also can keep one for yourself to play and maybe make money by making music at the same time :)

  • @edgeofsins In a general idea how much could i make off of one i made?

  • @edgeofsins Aside from the having a guitar to play part, how is that much different than making a high quality chair? >_> You can make lots of money on good chairs, too.

  • @Zerocreature Can you make music with a chair?

  • cool

  • nice vid! how long it takes you to complete that kind of work? and have you done this long? looks so smooth =)

  • @Loiske4real To answer your question....Dwight Maddox has more than 20 years of perfecting his craft, that is why he is able to make it look so smooth, quick, easy and perfect! It is a talent and gift he has mastered. He is the owner, and master luthier of MDX Guitars making one-of-a-kind guitars for only select clients; High End Luxury for High Profile Artists, Musicians and Celebrities all over the world.

  • No truss rod?

  • The first thing i do after I draw the neck on the wood is route for the truss rod. It is much easier to route something like that on a wide board than it is a piece of wood the width of a neck. the truss rod is already in when i cut the neck out..

  • Liked seeing the work, but the sound on this video clip is too saturated on the low end.

  • Yeah, I didnt edit this video. It sounds good on the FREEKBASS dvd tho.. By the way, It also took a little longer than 4:52 minutes to make this guitar. I am from Mississippi.. no one moves that fast there! LOL

  • ha ha, everyones a critic...freek makes this bass ooz funktastik subsonic panty-wettin' music, and thats all this bass needs too do in the end, now go back to jamming in ur livingroom haters!

  • yes, Freekbass is an amazing player. thank you for the kind words

  • does anyone feel like shaping the neck after fretting is weird?

  • Yes. That is really strange. Why on Earth did he do that?

  • because he doesn't know what the fuck he's doing

  • hmm... cute

  • @bayoumassacre @bayoumassacre doesn't know what HE is talking about! I don't think he has a clue! Does he even know WHO Dwight is? Obviously NOT! He's only the best luthier to the stars! Wonder why high-profile celebs aren't asking bayou for guitars? hmmm...cute.

  • see above. when all the frets are in, the fingerboard is perfectly square. the frets are perfectly level from the very beginning. I have very little leveling to do when it comes time to set up

  • I don't know Dwight but I would simply say that he does knwo what he is doing. When scratch building a neck you have the luxury of choosing when you install the frets. I believe he does it this way because installing the frets when the neck has greater mass (and lays flat) will result in a better setting of the frets. There is no flex or bounce when that large block of wood is sitting on the floor. Resawing the neck at the end of all that work requires experience and confidence.

  • @TimothyLeeH I was thinking the same thing about sawing that neck at the end of all that work is a ballsy move.

I'm just starting to learn about FreekBass' music, I'm more familliar w/William Collins' style. The boy is funky - I'm feelin' his riffs.

  • ballsy? maybe.. try shaping the neck with a hand grinder!

    :)

its not as hard as it seems. just keep your lines streight

  • You hit it right on the nose.. You save yourself hours of work in the long run by doing it in this order...

  • i start with a perfectly flat piece of wood. the truss rod is already in the wood when i cut out the neck. When i glue the fingerboard on, the neck is still perfectly square. When i hammer the frets in, the energy from the hammer blow it transfered through the wood into the floor. this leaves no hammer marks on the frets. you ever see the those things on desks that have 6 balls hanging from strings? you pull one back and let go, all the other balls stay, the one on the end moves. same thing

  • whats the songs name in the backround. i know its by freakbass but i dont know the name

  • i dont know either, but its on the FREEKBASS DVD.

I could find out if you like. like I said earlier, i didnt edit this video.

  • could you, it would be most appreciated :)

  • @mdxguitars i wonder why people don't understand you are not a VIDEOGRAPHER or Professional YouTube Blogger! Get over the sound clips people! get a life!

  • That's the SHAG symbol from back in the day.

  • Man I not dogging the video it was great but dont you need to put in a truss rode

  • i think you should take a shower and wash away the shame right now.

  • shame?? no, a ton of sawdust??? maybe. sucks trying to wash the very fine sawdust out of your eyes. depending on the kind of wood, that dust and water can sting a little bit

  • @melodikdeath JERK!

  • dumb but it was a Rhetorical question, to ask make shure you had one.

  • see comment at the top. truss rod is the first thing i do before I even cut the neck. much easier than trying to route on a narrow piece of wood

  • i've bought wood from that rare wood shop in midtown atlanta, i like to use shinto rasps when shaping my neck, never use super glue to glue in frets!

  • AAAA!!! I love this one. Dude, ill be finished shaping my neck and fine sanding before you even get started good with a rasp. SUPER GLUE!! ok, some players, like freekbass play the snot out of their guitars and will need another fret job sooner than most. I do 4 steps to the fret wire that you do not see in this video and Im not giving up this secret, but the superglue is to harden the wood more than it is to glue the frets in. When it comes time to refret, I wont pull out even a splinter.

  • thats the same way i make my guitars and basses, except without the grinder and a drill press, i need those though

  • That is extremely cool! I've played that bass... it's incredible.

  • TERRRIBLE PUTAIN YEAH

    bravo

  • wow...its like you have done this before...lol anyways gret job man

  • LOL!! yeah, a few, like 300

  • GUITAR

  • can you do it like this

  • Where is the tross rod?

  • i was wondering that, too...

the way he made the neck isn't the way i learned

  • see above

  • @cajunbrit that's why YOU aren't the one with the high-profile clients genious!

  • thank you so much!!! you are so great !! good job man!

  • おぉー!フリークベースのベース超かっこいい。

    ネックの部分にも☆が入ってたなんて知らなかった。

    フリークベース!!早く次のアルバム出してくれー!!

  • Dwight is a master craftsman. I would love to see more of these!
