In my own opinion it is good to recite om mani padme hum because Bodhisattva Guan Yin is also from Ji Le Shi Jie and practicing this mantra will strengthen one's affinity to be reborn in this blissful world. In my own opinion Mani is the Mind or the Bodhicitta that fulfill the great wish of enlightenment while Padme is detach or un-affect by the Samsara. In short is the prefect renounce Bodhicitta

第二個問題，請問法師，修淨土家裡能不能供唵嘛呢叭咪吽的條幅？
你要是喜歡供也可以，但是要曉得，這句咒的意義。這是觀世音菩薩六字大明咒。這咒的意義非常之好，是教我們，起心動念，言語造作，都要真誠清淨平等，這是咒的意思。從咒的字面上來講，唵是身，這個身包括了法身、報身、應化身，這一個字裡面講的是三身。嘛呢是蓮花，梵語稱嘛呢蓮花。叭咪是保持。吽是意，也就是我們今天講的起心動念。照字面的意思來講解，保持你的身心像蓮花一樣。蓮花是清淨，出污泥而不染。這個咒的意思是這樣的。所以你供養，你懂得這個意思很好，常常提醒自己，身心清淨，一塵不染，所以是可以供的。

Darma Ching-kon explains the meaning of OM MANI PADME HUM
OM means Dharmakaya; 'you', the truth body, or Reality Body; the "person" or the eternal "body" of you
MANI means the Lotus
PADME means "to keep"
HUM means your "mind"
So the whole phrase means:
To keep your mind as pure as the Lotus at all time.
