  • Am I to understand this owl is a wild rescue bird? Why is it allowing it self to be handled? Seems like even the types of birds usually purchased as pets that are bred in captivity are very particular about being touched extensively.

  • what exactly are you supposed to feed one of those?

  • @CinematicRidge cut up baby chicks, mice, mealworms

  • It should be illegal to post something this cute.

  • @ 0:29 it looks like a pokemon

  • Oh my god, I want one.

  • so cute. are their feathers as soft as they look?

  • My cat brought me a live screech owl last night we called the police and he is now at a wildlife center not far from where we lived. The whole time we were waiting for the animal shelter he was letting us pet him he loved it!

  • @TaylorRumsey that's good that he's at a wildlife center. For future reference, i know it can be hard not to pet them, but you shouldn't. The oil in our skin ruins their feathers.

  • he went like ^-^ while getting cleaned <3

  • screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech !

  • I'm actually thinking about working with raptors for my career.

  • My Cousin Vinny

    "What the fuck is that!!!!!!"

  • I AM ANGRY. ANGRY ABOUT OWLS.

  • @Brian01331 "This is from the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey in Maitland, FL. "

  • Clearly you can't notice the matching t-shirts that say Audubon Center for Birds, or the fact they look like they are in a type of pet hospital....nm you actually can from the video...or omg does it say? yes, why yes it says clearly in the description.

  • I didn't notice until after I wrote the comment that they were from the Audubon Society.

So shut your piss flap and go fuck yourself douche bag!

  • @Brian01331 Rit 1 Brian 0

  • @Brian01331 does nobody ever read the descriptions anymore? this is from a wildlife rehab center, it's not a pet!

  • HAHA...it look so enjoyable :D

  • I Love him !

  • Beautiful video, I've put some Eastern Screech Owl videos on my channel-come and check them out. They live in my backyard tree.

    Cheers,

    Debra

  • owls are very clean animals and its hard for them to clean there beak themself with all the fur etc

  • I want to pet an owl.

  • so do i, but, it wouldnt be right, but there are some owls that dont mind, i know of 1 thats doesnt mind, i forget where this one owl is located, but you could pet the owl day, and he/she wouldnt get pissed, Please note do NOT pet Owl in th e wil, unless you dont want your hand back.

  • SO CUTE!!!!!!!!

  • I donated my Eastern Screech Owl, Basil, to the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey around 2006. The people there were so kind and really took care of him (I think it was a him). I rescued it from being my cats food. They helped me out a lot and saved him.

  • that's really cool. i'll have to ask if he's still around. i'm glad you had a good experience with the Center.

  • I also volunteer at a wildlife rehab. What was the extent of the owl's injury so that it had to be hand-fed? We are lucky to have received a screech owl recently that will readily kill live mice in the cage, but we also have a lifer that can only see out of one eye, so he can only be fed live mice, but he does pretty well on his own. He's used for educational purposes, you can actually see him in one of my videos if you wanted to. How long have you been volunteering there?

  • This EASO had only been at the center for a day or two and had severe head trauma from flying into a car. It was hard enough for him to keep his head up let alone eat on his own so he had to be hand fed until he was doing better and could eat on his own. I have been working as a vet tech at this center for almost 4 years now.

  • That's ADORABLE!!!

  • I never say this, but . Epic!

  • i just LOVE their eyes!

  • So adorable! its eyes are so precious!!

  • haha cute what type of owl is i want one :)

  • Cutest. Owl. Ever.

  • Wow! Kinda looks like a furby lol! now I know where they got the idea.

  • thats what i thought too LMAO. fourtunatly, he cuter than a furby

  • It is a Furby lol xD

  • O.O ^^

  • I have like 4 of these living in my backyard in my huge tree.I always love to hear them and their shrill voices.Once in a while,I will actually see them.

  • lawls

  • A living Furby!

  • i like it when their eyes look like this O_o

  • That is just the cutest little thing!

  • They have such eerily expressive eyes.

  • Its so fluffy and cute!!!! I seen it on t.v. when it was being compared to a Great Horned Owl. It is so small!!! and fluffy!

  • And they make a sound that will curdle your blood.

  • really? interesting. the only sounds i've heard these make is almost a purr-like kinda sound. now BARN OWLS on the other hand...those owls have a blood-curdling scream! i even have a youtube video with them doing that very scream.

  • That descending trilling is another thing camping out on the creekbed at 3AM. Then again, I didn't know what it was back then.

  • @choirboyfromhell That's barn owls, and they only do that when they're disturbed. Why no-one seems to get it when they barge in their nests with a camera, I'll never know.

  • He's so cute - just like a toy. I think he likes having his face rubbed too.

  • this bird was brought in to the clinic because it was wounded. would you have preferred it to be free, and just lying on the ground suffering? she's not "choking" the owl, she's massaging the food it was just fed down its crop. sorry it pisses you off that they were helping this animal.

  • The way your ignorance of the care of animals makes you angry at the people actually doing something to HELP animals doesn't leave the rest of us exactly happy anyway. Try to show some manners.

  • I have one that hangs out on a tree outside my apartment window. Occasionally I can hear it calling. I didn't know people could handle them like that. It must hurt considering their hearing is super-sensitive and they feel static from movement through their feathers. I prefer them to be free, without cages or tethers. Anyone who thinks otherwise should be punished.

  • Screech owls are the cutest birds! We had one perch on our window ledge on Christmas Eve 25 years ago... That memory will stick with me forever!

  • It *does* look like a toy! Or a little feathered robot! I know its not, though....

  • it looks like a toy! ahaha~

  • IT DOES...ITS ADORABLE...i have a cute owl as well...:) check it out...

  • OMG HOW CUTE IS THIS LIL BIRDY!?!?! omggg owls are adorable!!

  • he's so cute! but he looks sort of mechanical.

  • He's asleep or half-asleep so his reactions are rather fuzzy, the same way as if you were half asleep and were woken up and handled in this manner. They aren't mistreating him though, he's probably been injured and is needing fed.

  • Cuteness!

  • dat screech was hangin on to dat guys hand like super glue. LOLXD!

  • If you read the previous comments, you would have learned that the person whose hand the owl is on is actually restraining the owl's feet so it won't squirm around.

  • that animal is so cool but it looks like they spoiled it lol jk XD! it a cool little owl

  • what a beautiful animal!

  • poor thing

  • he looks as thought he's going to die at any second did he live

  • to the best of my knowledge, he's fine. he's been released back into the wild.

  • that is SO CUTE

  • Wow! that was awesome. I love screech owls.

  • So adorable!!! I love owls and I'll show that video to my friends that always say that they aren't cute! My friends will shut up! ^^

  • glad to be of help!

  • More please! The eastern screech owl is my all time favorite owl.

  • the only other vid i have right now is of a different EASO (eastern screech owl) with a missing left eye, eating a mealworm. it's also here on youtube. you can see it by clicking on the right here where it says "Related" or "More from this user"...

  • How'd the owl cooperate so easily? I know other owls that will just flap away and try to escape. Is it just a personality thing, or how you deal with them?

  • i'll have to ask the person who's holding the owl in the video and let you know. i'm not really sure. from what i've seen, though, they don't usually fuss much once they're restrained a little (holding the feet).

  • I work with a raptor rehab program and, from experience, it varies from bird to bird based on personality and, like darthchase said, once you get them under control, they stop fussing. We have a partially blind barred owl who will let us do anything and she doesn't mind. She loves flying on the creance line :)

  • I'd love to have the opportunity to handle owls, maybe volunteer somewhere. So much fluff!

  • Beautiful animals. Graceful hunters. I live in WV and came upon a huge owl sitting in the middle of the road one night coming home from work...when it flew over my car...wow..the wingspan was huge! Great little vid by the way.

  • thats fully grown? its tiny!

    Cute!

  • yup, he's fully grown! you should see the babies!

  • Could you upload videos of screech owl chicks so we know just how tiny they are?

  • perhaps! baby season is coming up soon, so if i can, i'll get some footage of that up here.

  • Hope you do. It's almost like a stuffed toy, this adult owl.

  • I have uploaded a video of a baby screech owl, and posted it as a video response to this video. enjoy!

  • That was really freakin' adorable

  • why thank you! i totally agree! i love the eyes.
