  • Someone should build a monument to this great woman. Please, come and perform in the UK.

  • this is absolutely brilliant. too bad i just dont like patti lupone after hearing her outburst during gypsy.

  • does anyone know where I can find THIS version of sheet music? I love it and want to do it for an MT audition! If anyone knows i would reeeeally appreciate it!!

  • Love that she sings the original stage lyrics rather than the G rated recorded versions of Ella et al. They were meant to be scandalous and Lupone does that well.

  • This is music; she does not need to speak of how 'sticks and stones excite her' or how she wants someone to 'poke-her-face'

She needn't dress like a skank to be noticed, back then, it was as simple as having a good voice. Music has gone to hell these days.

  • Singing in key of A flat.

  • I love what she is wearing! Makes her look even more fab!

  • If ever a person was born to be on Broadway...

  • This is one of the best performances of hers that I've seen. Usually I can't understand the lyrics when she sings. Here I heard every word. I also liked her in Sweeney Todd. Does anybody have that?

  • Saw her do this as one her 4 performances at City Center Encores in NYC in late 90's. She was unforgettable in the role.

  • It's just not fair to other singers that she can do this so perfectly with so little effort.

  • I think god throws voices out of heaven like lollies I mean candies. Some voices are caught by truck drivers some are caught by opera singers. This voice was caught by a genius. Great tonsils, great mind and a great big heart. I love you NewNickTahoe who ever you are.

  • @robbiehrte66 Well said. So few people are so born to do this. Everything she sings she does so perfectly without seeming to make any effort. Listening to her sing honestly makes my life better.

  • Ms. LuPone is definitely one of a kind. Although one can hear a difference in her voice as the years have passed (as is to be expected), she still sounds strong and energetic.

  • Thank you for posting this!

  • Great!

  • whats up with the crazy laugh. ha this is why i love patti! Along with other things

  • love her laugh

  • I love her crazy laugh

  • Just look how far away her mic is! Most modern singers have the mic right up to their lips. Even singing softly the mic can pick up THAT voice!

  • I'm not familiar with Pal Joey. I'll have to look it up.

  • I just adore her in this song. It's softer than her usual, more melodic? I'm not good with knowing what music is... but I love it. <3

  • amazing. And amazing that these lyrics, the original from the show in 1940 were written at the time. Daring! It's wonderful to hear the original!

  • almost chilling and breathtaking....just amazing..... :)

  • There is nothing ordinary about the Patti...she's mahvelous!! Absolutely love her voice and this song is all hers!!

  • She is so brilliant. Amazing! She makes me feel happy. I love indeed her tallent. From a brazilian fan.

  • ahahaha i love her laugh at 0:07!!!

  • I love everything she is wearing

  • LuPone has the subtlety and deftness of a jackhammer.

  • Haha. You have to appreciate her though. She is a classic performer, although I much prefer Marin Mazzie's version of this.

  • @mvezza true dat.

  • @mvezza even though Ella Fitzgerad's version (and everything she ever recorded) remains to me the standard by which to judge all others, I cannot fault Patti Lupone's interpretation of this song_ It it very engaging and neither overwhelms nor takes away in any form from the placement of this piece in either it's context within the play or as a set piece as presented.

  • @mvezza that's what i love about her.

  • i loved it !!!!

  • One thing I've noticed and have fallen in love with that Patti LuPone does is sing certain lines without moving her lips. It gives such a contrast to the song just for a moment. =D

  • I love PATTI! And I love this SONG! But could someone please tell me if there is a video of Stockard Channing doing this song anywhere on the internet at all! I need it. Her performance is haunting and her stage prescence is incredible! But I really do love PAtti!

  • I love Patti. One of my heroes.

  • Beautiful! Love this version of this gorgeous song.

  • her facial reactions are priceless

  • She has such a wicked laugh

  • Love this lady, and her performance of this classic.

She is right when she said at the conclusion that they don't write shows like that anymore.

Thank God she's over sexed again!

  • Patti LuPone is amazing. One of my many heroes.

  • Patti lupone soo cute singing this song. She has a great voice

  • The lyrics in this are much different than in my Rodgers & Hart Songbook, but I like a lot of them! It's a more sultry version of the song. And the "and worship the trousers that cling to him" is my favorite version of that verse! I'll admit I heard it first in The History Boys, but it's still amazing!

  • She is singing the original lyrics, before the arrogant censors did a number on this R&H masterpiece. I don't know how she is horizontally speaking, but vertically Patti Lupone is a treasure.

  • ohmygosh, my new fave Patti number! lovee her<3

  • do you have more from this show?

  • damn i wish she was playing Vera and not Stockard

  • why? Stockard is haunting in this song!

  • Simply wonderful.

  • <3 love this woman.

  • omg me too!!!!!

  • do you have the whole show?

  • Just a hair too fast, otherwise awesome. I'd love to see her play Vera in the whole show. I saw her in Evita in New York in 1978. She gets better with time.
