@simon4186 Yes Nick wrote this for his beautiful wife Valerie.. I got a chance to meet in Bridgeport, CT when I worked in a convience store downtown and he was very cool..Be blessed Nick!
With Earl Van Dyke and the Funk Brothers in the room there was more talent that words could ever begin to describe.. May James Jamerson's great contribution to bass playing never be forgotten. RIP James.

Guys and gals, is it my imagination or what!!! Listen closely between counts three and four of the engineer's restart of the duo's countdown and you can hear Tammi whisper "I love you."
magical...this is one of my all time favourite motown tracks,it just has a beautiful melody: love the bass, bongo's and strings in the instrumental mix especially.doesn't get much better than this, thanks for posting!!!
Another question Andy...At the beginning is that you saying "shut up" just before the Engineer gives the count or is that off the recording?

If you listen at 1:59 Tammi says "Ah Marvin"...I am surprised they weren't engaged...At the time of her passing she was engaged to a doctor

There have been so so many great duets in music, but Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell are king and queen, if not KING and QUEEN of the genre.

Bassist James Jamerson way out front at the end. You really can hear his musical genius at work.

Listen at the point the engineer restarts the count. It comes between counts two to four. It's there because it's at the same spot everytime.

Beautiful song, with the fade outs, the strings and flute sound amazing
ayplan 3 years ago 2
How did you fade out certain sections? Wasn't all the music recorded together onto two tracks and the vocals on a separate (third) track?
papadop 3 years ago
No, ANLTRT is an 8 track recording. Motown moved to using 8 track recording in late '65.
