i would like to see more of Elvira's hosted horror movies on DVD...a handful have been released so far...even if Elvira's segments are removed, i would like to see some of these films..."so sad about gloria" and so on...there's a list of the movies she's hosted...
Messiah of Evil really does deserve a special edition release. It's an awesome and very atmospheric gem, with some truly great and creepy scenes, like the one in the theatre.
it's been circeling for years now that Peter Jackson actually wants to make a special edition of Braindead, but it seems he is just to busy making movies! love your stuff man!
very nice video, really interesting, nice one. I'd like to have a special edition of Death Trap (sometimes known as Eaten Alive!) as it's one of my favourites.
I don't know if you already know jarashut but Messiah Of Evil is about to be released this month released as The Second Coming - 35th Anniversary Edition DVD. Coming this 22nd of September.
Hey man - no, I don't think I have. I'm only sure on seeing the first two. I done some reading - people seem to suggest its somewhat of a remake of the original. Is that right?
Great vid James! Some great choices there. The version I have of Dead Alive is a German made Blood Edition which is an uncut edition, but I don't think has any extras. I need to get Slumber Party Massacre and God Told Me To. I wanna see em so fuckin' bad!
Great video! Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse needs a special edititon release. The Umbrella release has an interview with Tobe Hooper, but the other releases are pretty much bare bones. Eli Roth is in talks with Universal to remake it. Maybe then it will better a worthy release.
Hey there. Yeah, Funhouse could do with a SE. Got that Umbrella DVD and it's quite nice, the interview isn't very long however. Eli Roth wants to do a remake? Feck, I did not know that. Thanks for the info.
Man, Braindead really does need a sweet special edition like they did with Bad Taste!! We dont even have the full length version here. I have an old vhs dub of the longer version and I like that ALOT better. I know the shorter version is preferred by jackson. maybe they will put both versions if they release a Special Edition.
Motel Hell is awesome, definitely would be cool to see a better dvd of that!
Hey Lori, thanks very much. I did not know the American version was Jacksons preferred cut. Cool stuff - would be a good idea to have both versions on the disc if they ever did a SE like you said.Motel Hell is the shit! Gah - didn't know it was getting a remake though. Oh well. Anyway, thanks for watching ;)
I've never seen God Told Me To Kill, so I looked it up on Netflix and it was already in my queue from ages ago. Had to bump that one up. Thanks for another good idea James.
I absolutely love Stage Fright. Saovi is incredibly talented and I wish he'd made more horror movies than the few.
I've got the big box VHS of Messiah of Evil. Definitely need to watch that one again soon.
No problem mate. God Told Me To I thought had a really interesting storyline. It also has a low-budget, guerrilla feel to it that I found really endearing. Yes, I agree about Soavi - wish the film scene in Italy hadn't died in the 90s. If he was able to make films I think he would have been held in the same regard as Argento and Fulci. Nice stuff on the Messiah of Evil big box. I found the film quite remarkable - wasn't expecting anything, but it took me by surprise. Cheers.
Hey Justin. Slumber Part Massacre is a really good one, and a new SE release would be be good also because the current DVD is OOP in the states. Stagefright is excellent - very stylish and well directed. You should check it out. Cheers mate.
Slumber Party Massacre 2 is Banned? Gah - WTF. That film is just plain fun! Gah - did I just see you imply you DIDN'T like Braindead... *loads shotgun*. Yes, finally conceded defeat and changed The Gonk credits. lol, nah, just some random copper going for a spin down the highway :P
Well, It's been a few years since I watched it, but It seemed as though it lacked direction and stagnated throughout. I was expecting something to stand out throughout the film, but It continued to lack a pivotel moment which garbbed me. From memory, the ending didn't appeal to me at all.
As I said, I was ill when I watched it, which inturn might have effected the experience. I usually love everything you recommend, so I might have to give it another go.
I get ya man. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for a film either. Hmm, I actually though Polanski was very focused in The Tenant. Like the style it went for.
Hey man, thanks very much. Yeah, the owl mask in Stagefright was great. Very creepy. The Transfer of Messiah of Evil in that pack is pretty damn crappy. The proposed Code Red DVD release that people have told me about looks awesome though. Wait for that one I'd say. The Pack however is worth picking up - some great films that are hard to find. Bell from Hell, Funeral Home, Naked Massacre, Scream Bloody Murder & Haunts being the picks of the bunch.
I agree 100% with that list each one of those films need a Special Edition release!
So many films need better editons but off the top of my head I'd have to say...Scanners, Brainscan, The Church, Sleepaway Camp, The Brood, Summer of Sam, Don't Torture a Duckling, Single White Female, and The Sentinel all need Special Editions badly!!!
Cheers man. There's some great films you listed there. If your interested, there's a UK 2 disc version of The Brood. I'm thinking of doing an upgrade :D.
when you said when remakes inspire special editions it made me think of The Stepfather which is a great film that was bare bones on umbrella which i cant find anywhere lol, that and the sequels would be great to release for the remake thats on the way.
i agree with slumber party massacre! i have the same dvd shame its got nothing but trailers.
Motel hell is getting a new release i noticed but its probably bare bones
The Umbrella DVD of the Stepfather is pretty nice. Think it was widescreen if I remember. Anyway, there's a remake of that one coming out soon so hopefully a SE DVD will come out. Yeah, Slumber Party Massacre deserves one. Yeah, saw something about a Motel Hell DVD in Empire Magazine, but haven't actually psychically seen one. Cheers mate.
Great vid as always, James. The Tenant, very excellent film from Polanski. I have that DVD myself with the trailer. Love to see a SE for that flick. A friend of mine has Dead Alive on DVD. Widescreen uncut release from Trimark/LionsGate here in the states. Nothing but a trailer on that disc. I love to see that movie get a LOTR style DVD set. That would be awesome! :-)
Hey Chris. Yeah, The tenant is one of Polanski's best. My dual favourite of his with Repulsion. lol, a similar release of Dead Alive as the LoTR films would be wicked. Hey - they could do a release with his trilogy of gore films (Dead Alive, Bad Taste & Meet The Feebles). I'd buy that!
Same here! And they could also add The Frighteners to that set. Peter Jackson's first mainstream horror . That had pretty good SE release here in the states. I'm pretty sure most of his older stuff will be re-released by the time his new film The Lonely Bones comes out. Can't wait for that flick! :-)
Messiah of Evil and Let's Scare Jessica to Death reminds me of other early 70s horror like Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, Gargoyles, etc. I wish Don't Be Afraid of the Dark had some sort of dvd release with extras.
Me too man. They've got a quality about them you don't see in many films. Lemora is a good example of it. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark? Don't think I've seen that one mate, I'll have to look into it.
Hey mate. Think we just got it released here in Australia. Stand alone disc. The double feature if you can find it is worth it. Deranged is excellent also.
Everyone should go to the offical clive barker web site and sign the nightbreed dirctors cut part, where they are trying to get it released. there is more info on the site
I just subed him cool stuff there, i agree with the ones you said, special edition of halloween 3 season of the witch like one person said i mean it was a good movie but i wouldnt call it halloween tho
Hey man. Yeah, that's what I'm like with Halloween 3 - should never have been a Halloween film. If you take it on it's own it's fine, but otherwise it could be seen as a disappointment if you wanted a Myers fix.
Hey Ryan. God Told Me To is a good place to start with Cohen films IMO. Slumber Party and House on Sorority are two excellent slashers that deserve better releases. Dead Alive - f*ck knows why there hasn't been a SE already. Motel Hell is the shit. And yeah, Messiah of Evil I love and would recommend, but I'd say wait. Sounds like it might be getting a DVD release soon maybe. ;)
I have wanted to see God Told Me Too for a while now Slumber Pary Massacre is the shit but i have not seen it for a very long time...The House on Sorority Row i am gonna have to see before i see the remake..and Dead Alive is an awesome film.
Thanks for the video response man. I do think that Braindead does need a SE release. Messiah Of Evil is getting a SE release through Code Red dvd but it's hard to tell when it will be coming out. I'd like to see City Of The Living Dead get a SE release.
No probs Ron, cheers for making great vids ;). Braindead - the question with that one is WHY has no one done a SE DVD yet - some kind of copyrights issue? Yeah, I'm stoked about The Messiah of Evil DVD. Just wish they'd cement a release date. City of the Living Dead is a great choice man. Think the only features with that one are trailers if I'm not wrong. Thanks for replying man, and sorry this vid was so late lol.
Code Red are supposed to be releasing a 35th anniversary edition although it should have been out by now. This company seems to have great difficulty in releasing films on time though as Nightmare Maker is also WAY behind its release date.
WHats that? For Messiah of EVil? WOw, I'm very excited now. Just had a search before and saw some shots from their widescreen print *salivates* Release it already! Cheers for making my day Glenn either way ;)
No prob fella. I wouldn't hold your breath though as they are rather slow at getting thier DVD's out it seems. Hopefully it wont be too much longer though.
I heard Motel Hell is being remade, so I bet there will be a special feature in the future. I first saw Let's Scare Jessica about a year ago and even now I think it's ahead of it's time. I've never seen a horror/supernatural movie quite like that.
Hey man. Totally agree with you about Lets Scare Jessica to Death. That's maybe one of the most impressive things about it - it's very ahead of it's time. Loved the eerie, haunting atmosphere too.
The Tenant - oh yeah, baby! My 2nd fav. movie of all time! That would be my very first choice as well (G.M. :-)). I'd welcome a SE of Rosemary's Baby too.
Braindead would def. make my list too! I still haven't bought it because I'm still hoping for a decent SE of it.
Stagefright not only deserves special features, but also could use some remastering. The picture quality was not the best imo.
Never heard of Messiah of Evil. Sounds really interesting.
Hey Dom :D. Yes, The Tenant is top class. Equal fav with Repulsion. Yeah, I was hesitant to pick of Braindead too, but I thought bugger it. Got it cheap years ago so what the hell. Yes, thats a good point about Stagefright - the picture wasn't the prettiest was it. Remember it being contrasted. Messiah of Evil is one of my all time favs - check it out if you get the chance. From some of the comments, sounds like Code Red is giving it a special release sometime. Thanks man ;)
i'd like to see a very special edition of halloween 3-season of the witch as its a stand alone classic ,also THE WARNING starring Jack Palance wich is s sci fi shocker i saw in the 80s wich deserves a higher profile, great selection though as always
Hey Gray. Yes, Halloween 3 should be considered standalone. I wouldn't mind if they released it just say Season of the Witch if they done a SE. The Warning eh? Can't say I've seen it. Does sounds familiar though. I'll see if I can find it at a local vid store that still stocks all its VHS range. Cheers
Motel Hell is wicked & needs a special edition , its being remade so they will proberbly give it the SE treatment when that comes out. I really need to check House on Sorority Row out , ive never seen it. I love Slumber Party Massacre.
It's being remade? Gah - f*cking dammit, guess I should have expected it. Your right though - potential SE DVD. House on Sorority Row is a pretty classy slasher. Very accomplished and well done. Yay - I love Slumber Party Massacre too. Great film. Thanks for commenting.
It's interesting to note that the old VBO home video of Braindead is widescreen(ish), but the DVD is full screen! I've avoided DVDs as a consequence, until such time a proper release occurs.
A non-horror film that needs attention is Midnite Spares. The total shit release that Reel (aka Village Roadshow) gave to this Aussie classic is almost criminal.
That is strange. Wish the DVD was widscreen because it's obvious some of the picture is missing. Midnight Spares? Must say, I've never heard of it. I'll be looking into. Thanks for the comment mate.
I need to see him live again, hope he comes to the UK later this year, I saw him live at wembley arena, back in 2007, it was awesome, I also met him and twiggy, few months ago, at an in-store signing!
yeah I met him and twiggy, but I was really brief with them! anyways, I might make a video later on today, to say that I won't make anymore vids till august, because I'll be abroad, 16th july till 30th july, anyways, I'll be going to a gig tomorrow, so I can't make that vid tomorrow!
Braindead is a really obvious film - don't know why it hasn't happened yet. I would have thought there would have been a Special Edition years ago. Thanks for the comment mate.
i would love to see a special edition of Trick Or Treat released...

MrBlueberry81 2 years ago
this is true. A buddy of mine worked on it down in Knoxville last year.

Excellent video as usual! Dead on picks!

ScReAmDeMoN58 2 years ago

Great stuff James 5 stars!!!

AussieRoadshow 2 years ago
That is strange. Wish the DVD was widscreen because it's obvious some of the picture is missing. Midnight Spares? Must say, I've never heard of it. I'll be looking into. Thanks for the comment mate.

adamchabbi6 2 years ago
Yeah, I heard about that. Probably won't be going though. I like some of his songs, never been a serious fan though.
Jarashut 2 years ago
I need to see him live again, hope he comes to the UK later this year, I saw him live at wembley arena, back in 2007, it was awesome, I also met him and twiggy, few months ago, at an in-store signing!
adamchabbi6 2 years ago
You met him? Gah, thats crazy man. We don't get anyone like that around here.
Jarashut 2 years ago
yeah I met him and twiggy, but I was really brief with them! anyways, I might make a video later on today, to say that I won't make anymore vids till august, because I'll be abroad, 16th july till 30th july, anyways, I'll be going to a gig tomorrow, so I can't make that vid tomorrow!

i love to see dead alive with a new dvd
matt11708 2 years ago
Yeah, me too man. Also, would be good if people in the States finally got the full, uncut film.
Jarashut 2 years ago
yeah I agree braindead needs a special edition, I own the UK version as well, the same as the one you have
adamchabbi6 2 years ago
Braindead is a really obvious film - don't know why it hasn't happened yet. I would have thought there would have been a Special Edition years ago. Thanks for the comment mate.
Jarashut 2 years ago
I want to get that Motel Hell a S.E. would be nice...
DONDON2013 2 years ago
Yeah, Motel Hell I'd love a Special Edition for. We just got a release here in Australia I think, but it's bare-bones again.
