I saw him with Galactic at the Hoxeyville Fest in Michigan in late July. The whole band was amazing, but man....this guy can groove. Damn. Just like the comments below say: nothing overly flashy, but all the right tricks, in all the right places. Perfect.
I had a chance to meet Stanton outside of Soul Drums in Toronto before a clinic he hosted a few years ago, he took the time to talk to me for awhile even though it was freezing outside. He was a genuine nice guy and put on a great clinic. After the clinic he stayed long enough to sign autographs for anyone that wanted them. Great drummer, cool guy.
That dude has got it! He don't have super-blazin chops but he got an AWESOME groove and funky-ass vibe in everything he do. Plus the bro is havin fun!!!! I seen some cats play who look bored, indifferent or jus not into it. Stanton gets down and the energy and vibe comin off the drums is really hip my man!! YEAH!!! GIVE THAT DRUMMA SUM MORE!
I saw the Stanton-Robert-Shane version of the trio at the Crowbar in Ybor. Being in such a small venue with such world-class musicians was awesome. Borderline religious experience.
I saw Stanton's trio with Robert Walter on keys and Shane Theriot on guitar . I've seen him with with Will Bernard too . But for my taste , Theriot brought a lot more to the table .
I'M LOVING THE BUDDY RICH HAND SWITCH AT :23!
