I fully agree Lidstrom is an awesome defensemen. What I said was in relation to having other talented players around him. If he had a lousy puck handling outlet, that would unfortunately also reflect on the passer. If he didn't have extremely defensively responsible forwards, like Datsyuk, Cleary, Draper and Zetterberg, Lidstrom's skills would be more difficult to recognize.

I fully agree Lidstrom is an awesome defensemen. What I said was in relation to having other talented players around him. If he had a lousy puck handling outlet, that would unfortunately also reflect on the passer. If he didn't have extremely defensively responsible forwards, like Datsyuk, Cleary, Draper and Zetterberg, Lidstrom's skills would be more difficult to recognize.

@HockeyGod72 Laughing stocks of the NHL? Detroit is one of if not the best hockey team in the league. They have won too many cups, had too many historical moments and players for ANYONE who actually knows hockey to deny that. To say any team that can bring home the Stanley cup is not worth it is insulting what it stands for, the Red Wings prove time and time again that they can through thick and thin win and with class. Any true hockey fan can respect that, even an Avs fan.

@turban...I think you misread what I said. I give Detroit props for being a dominant team, having a great coaching staff and system and drafting well. The "laughingstock" part was in reference to most Detroit fans, who always have a volley of handy excuses as to why something didn't go their way. The misguided "superiority" and subsequent badmouthing of every other team and their fans, is the real insult to the game. I can appreciate talent, even if it's not on my team.

continued: I enjoy conversing with fans of the game, not ignorant homers. I have been to 19 different NHL hockey arenas just so I could absorb the different atmospheres and attitudes. I have established many friendships with different people in different cities but honestly, aside from Philadelphia, Detroit fans are the least accomodating to opposing teams fans in attendance.That disrespects the game and that's what I was talking about here. It doesn't mean you fit the bill, but far too many do.

@noangeldustneeded he proved nothing. He didn't want to drop the gloves with McCarty the 2nd time. He had 2. He either went down as the biggest disgrace 2 ever play the game or at least regain some dignity. How was Draper supposed 2 fight Claude when he was taken off the ice on a gurney needing full facial repair because of a punk move by Claude? Of course the next season he wasn't going to be fighting anyone, thus steps in McCarty.

@noangeldustneeded The face going into the boards was because of the cowardly hit by Claude. So yes, it is the hit which caused it all. It's Newton's 3rd Law. I don't know who your Dad is. I don't care either. Only Lemieux's I know are Jocelyn, Claude and Mario and Mario ain't related. If I took a 2x4 and hit you in the face are you going to want to fight me? Same with Draper only instead of a 2x4 it's a nice solid set of boards. Shawn Burr was never anything impressive.

The point is, it was a dirty play and Draper couldn't defend himself so McCarty our enforcer at the time, stepped up. Claude knew he had an ass beating coming to him from a Detroit player. He just didn't know who. He punked out when he turtled.
