how did you learn ZBrush? and please don t tell me i just practiced on my own :), i mean you ve definitely had some formal training right? Tell me plz coz i want to create things like that !!!
Hi, great video! can you do an animation for our new movie. The scene would be about 5-10 seconds. There is pay. Please see our video animation spec deal for more information. Thanks, mark
If Borderlands had more realistic looking characters, this would have been a perfect enemy model :D. Really great job, I hope you have a career in this ;).
@Fess1001 didnt know that you could add pysics in zbrush, well i havent used it for a long time and i usally just model and add the rest on cinema 4D and maybe use unitiy for coding at the end.
I'm an artist and I want to learn 3D. How long does is take to get to this level? And is it possible to learn on your own, thru online tutorials and books? Any help would be great, before I commit to this. Thanks!
@puluking1579 When I finished this demo reel, I had been doing 3d/art for three and a half years (including 1 year at Vanarts). I ve also been somewhat artistically inclined all my life, which helps. Depending on how good you are traditionally and how quick/dedicated you are, it could be anywhere between 6 months to 2-3 years.
Thanks for your help!! I actually downloaded the free trial for maya, I'm gonna see how that goes. I actually graduated from Calarts, but never got into the whole 3D thing. I think I was intimidated by the interface. I took one semester, and the teacher was terrible. I don't want to go back to school to learn it, it just cost to much. Maybe I'll keep you posted on my progress and maybe I can get a demo reel up one day, haha. Thanks again and keep up the awesome work!
@puluking1579 (Cont)Learning on your own is fine when it comes to software, but imo it's best to learn stuff like anatomy by going to figure drawing workshops and other anatomy related classes if you're able. If you are on a fast track to get started - get the latest "Zbrush: Digital sculpting Human Anatomy" book by Scott Spencer, it's pretty good. I d still compliment that with schooling/other art books if you can afford/have time.
P.s. Thanks for all the feedback guys, really appreciated! :)
you know figure drawing and you make sculpture as well great is there anything that you dont know. I went through your blog and your models are as usal great.
is it necessary to know how make sculpture and figure drawing.i really suck atfigure drawing a 10 year old kid can draw better than me and i don't have any idea how to make a real sculpture
@rahulcamma Thanks. If you want to work as an artist you d be better of going to an art school where they teach all the art fundamentals. All the traditional stuff I ve learnt at the art school. If you just want to work in games you could learn how to build and texture props in 3d, or how to rig. Those don't require much in terms of traditional art and are in higher demand.
Dont kick yourself in the ass too much. I'd say your at a good start not knowing jack because learning how to draw is very structured. You're better off not being a stubborn artist not willing to learn the fundamentals because you already "know". Treat art like a science with respect. Its not just the skill in your hand. Like anything it takes practice and determination. Draw everyday! Start by downloading how to Draw books by Andrew Loomis for free, pdfs. Take it in doses, do the exercises.
@rahulcamma I m still working on it. You could check out the latest at my blog and I ve also posted a link to some of my latest character/creature turnarounds into my profile.
your demo reel is amazing great work.i was just wondering when u model a charcter how ur egde loops should flow i mean like they should be equally disributed or they should have nice flow??????
@rahulcamma Thanks. It would depend on what the model is meant to be used for, but I 'd say for zbrush base meshes you'd want both. Do a search on cgtalk on the subject, lots has been posted there.
i wish to ask something.. u use maya right??.. i use maya too.. have you noticed that maya split poligon tool sometimes bugs.. i mean it cuts the poligon.. but when u hit enter it doent made any change.. please respond. Thanks
I only notice that happens when you try to cut straight to the opposite side of the object. Cutting in smaller steps resolves that problem, for me at least.
That was sick! your models are awesome... the only problem I had is with the camera on the last model( the zooming in and out) but everything was niiiiice!
damn I hate you, I just started 3d modeling and you make me jealous. How did you get the models to translate from textured to clay to wireframed while the camera is still rotating?
My only criticism is the camera work on the final piece. It has that 'roller coaster' feel that many people like to put into their reels. You were doing really well with the other models. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but it really shouldn't feel cinematic. You are just showing off your badass modeling skills. If there are any slow-ins and outs, or other strange camera movements, it becomes rather distracting. I shouldn't be aware of the camera.
you're modeling is pretty good, but your texturing needs some work. For realistic skin, you have to build layers of color to get that depth and translucent quality. Also, your hard body textures are too clean and neat, they need to be grunged and show wear.
Really nice nice work man. You've got the potential to make it big!!! Are there any tips you can give me? I'm just starting out with ZBrush but my focus is on After Effects and Nuke. Also i'm new to the industry. Any professional insight you could give one artist to another? I have an undergraduate in animation; check out my page tell me what you you think.
Love it. This is awesome. Its what i want to do by the time I leave university but i have no idea what i can do to get myself to that point.
Do you know any tutorials or guides that can help? i've managed making a marketplace with basic shapes and textures as well as making planet earth but i really want to get into character/vehicle modelling.
They took about 6 months I think (including rendering and post). Drahl girl took the longest to make and render - maybe 2-3 months. Wiggles next to her was done in less than a week (model was done in 2 days). The other two characters took less time to make, but I was coming back over and over to improve on them. I think the first pass (which was game-res models with normal maps) was about a month on soulblighter and then 2 weeks on the punk.
did you do the texturing as well? and did you model them in the stance you show them in or did you model them in crucifix position rig them and adjust there position?
Yeah , I textured them too. The characters were modelled in default stances (but not crucifix ones) - second and third ones were rigged and posed in maya. "Punk" was posed partly in maya, partly in zbrush. The blue robot wasn't rigged at all, I just rotated it's limbs into position.
Thanks for the feedback guys, I m glad you liked it!
