  • Whats funny is sonar doesnt sound anythng like this.... /sigh

  • If you care about the whales so much, go to China and stop their whaling fleet. They kill whales. SONAR doesn't.

Everything you said on here is ignorant. You clearly have no idea about how sound travels in water. You have no idea why the whales were changing direction. You have no idea about nuclear testing. I swear, I know you want to save the world. That's great. Change your own practices. Don't try to ask anyone to trade human lives for the possible lost of animal life.

  • @TheCrapocalypse epic fail troll. u will never find any legal whaling vessels in china. for fuck's sakes, keep up with current events and go to japan or norway if you want to stop whaling

  • I love these whiny ecopsychos and their foaming at the mouth over military sonar. None of them have any idea how the actual acoustic physics works and can't even get their decibel references right (no, 130 dB in air is not the same as 130 dB in water). The simple truth is that more whales are killed by boatstrikes and are disturbed more by the constant background noise from shipping traffic. The *only* reason these people are going after the Navy is they're a big target for greedy lawyers.

  • fuck whales

  • I served in the royal navy in the 70's, I worked exclusivly on sonar detection systems and back then we were informed that a person in the water would be deafened after being exposed to pings, I'm sure that 40 years on sonar is more powerfull.

  • @12alien12 Human hearing and marine mammal hearing are not the same in the slightest. Humans are essentially deaf underwater because of impedance mismatch between the eardrum and seawater. Underwater you can mainly only hear low frequency sounds through bone conduction. A person right next to the sonar wouldn't go deaf, they'd go dead, since the sonar would boil the water (and the person) around it. That said, anything that close to a destroyer has more to worry about getting run over.

  • I use active SONAR in the Navy, and let me tell you, the dolphins and whales don't get hurt by it. Once they hear it they crowd the ship to investigate. There has been no "proof" that the Navy's SONAR did anything to them. And nicolatwo, rethink your statements before you start posting here. Active SONAR is meant to protect HUMAN lives. Also SONAR is an acronym for Sound Navigation and Ranging, but, I'm sure you knew that since you're trying to stop it. Go ahead and capitalize the whole word.

  • @nicolatwo...US Navy sonar isn't effective over 45 miles...sorry to burst your bubble but i'm one of the ones on the ship doing the pinging...i should know the system, also US sonar doesn't sound like that

  • @chikitiki67 can you agree... that fast moving "objects" underwater AFFECT all of the ocean floor and whale or other school of fish in its way...

this is more logical, and please dont give me an answer that comes from your training manuals. at least respect it that much...

  • @nicolatwo...US Navy sonar isn't effective over 45 miles...sorry to burst your bubble but i'm one of the ones on the ship doing the pinging...i should know the system

  • I care more about the Navy being able to do their job than a few whales dying.

  • Did you see the minisub turn tail and haul ass when the destroyer showed up? Neither did the 100,000 people that are still alive today. GO NAVY!!!

  • The sound in the video is a digital data stream, not active sonar.

  • Oh god such bullshit

  • a U.S. navy destroyer would not be using active sonar that close to the shore, sonar is the most vital thing on a ship besides its radar. a submarine can do far more damage than most airplanes. if we arent able to use active sonar and track the underwater contacts then our enemies can park a submarine carrying a heavy payload of nuclear missiles right of our coast.

  • Would like to see a video update on the North Atlantic Right Whale breeding/calving lagoon.

  • Thanks for upload, important information.

  • Active sonar must be completely stopped. It affects whales in much wider ranges through hundreds of miles, too. This technique is torture to the animals and any human diver, too. Help my campaign to stop active sonar.

  • Hi,

My name is wade and i am an acoustic warfare anylist in the royal australian navy.

I agree the environment must be considered when transmitting on active sonar. However the thought of eliminating the use of active sonar as an acoustic warfare deterant fills me with much fear.

As a part of the submarine community we pride ourselves on our ability to be very quite (passive). This means a nuclear ballistic missile platform could operate around the world un-noticed..and THAT is a scary sound

  • I know there are two kinds of sonar: active and passive. I thought active sonar (a submarine sending a "ping" to detect an enemy sub or surface vessal) is virtually obsolete because the technology of a submarine detecting a ping automatically discloses the position of the sub sending the original ping. Also, technology in passive sonar and listening for enemy subs through mechanical sounds they emit is so far advanced. Therefore, WHY IS ACTIVE SONAR STILL USED???

  • Its because surface Vessels would be hard pressed to detect a submarine on passive sonar because of something called "Self Noise" and also something called "Flow noise" Which makes it almost impossible to detect a sub-surface contact If the ship itself is travelling over 15 knots. SO.. active sonar can still be utilised at speed, and when you are attempting to evade an underwater threat.. SPEED, is your best freind..... Trust me, if it were not needed it would not be used.

  • active sonar is still used because it is the only type of sonar where u can get range as well. sometimes certain factors fall into place where u cant detect a contact through passive sonar.

  • i agree totally i am a surface sonar technician in the U.S. Navy and the general population doesnt really understand sonar and its importance! if they only knew what we knew i dont think they would be fighting so hard to get it banned

  • I agree. A lot of animal activists would consider this cruelty, in a way it is but technology can take us so far and I believe the Navy is doing it for a greater cause than killing animals the Navy is doing it for us to keep us safe from threat while we sleep comfortably in our houses. I wouldn't want to sleep one day and the next thing I know the US gets bombed or something, I bet neither would you. I love animals too but in order to keep everyone safe we have to work with what we have :'(

  • i hope if they do outlaw sonar that your city is the first to be hit with an attack from an enemy submarine. which could have been stopped by the active sonar which is soo horrible. im pretty sure fisherman kill more whales than sonar

  • For years whales have been beaching themselves and the navy and others have said they don't know the reason. That's a lie. I hope someone or something can stop these death merchants before they kill again. Sonar IS torture.

  • What did u think of this video???? Pretty scary huh!!!!

  • survival of the fittest. if the whales can't figure out how to defend themselves thats their own falt. frankly its embarassing that we are protecting a different species when our on species has its own problems. forshame.

  • ::cough:: Look up biodiversity and what happens without it.

  • Survival of the fittest, huh. Then how bout you enlighten us on how you think these orca can defend themselves.

  • How would you like them to defend themselves? You do realize that without most of the species the human population is killing off, intentionally or not, our planet will not be able to sustain itself? I am not blaming the Navy, we just need to learn to coexist in a mutually benefiting environment so the generations after can enjoy all the beauty Earth has to offer!

  • No, I agree with you Danifani03.

  • well, no, the planet can sustain itself just fine. The human race is not going to kill off life as we know it. Even if we nuke the entire planet.

....now as far as sustaining us, well... that's a different story.

  • The alternative to this is High Freq sonar, which poses no danger at all to marine life and is used quite frequently. Unfortunately, these systems are necessary in many cases, not only those dealing with combat. Without active sonar, the incidence of collisions and groundings would be much higher and would claim the lives of many more of my shipmates than are already injured or killed in such incidents.

  • The Navy's purpose is NOT to kill marine life, anyone who thinks that is the case is delusional. As a Sonar tech on an SSN, I can say without a doubt that the Navy takes all precautions necessary to prevent harm to marine life. Also, whenever the Navy uses Medium Freq sonar (the type shown to cause harm) there are a whole ream of reports that are filled out and sent in to squadron letting them know where MF Active was used, for how long, for what purpose, etc, because we know how harmful it is.

  • Hey, what happened hougSTAR? Classified comments? You were right.

  • Nothing I said was classified, I verified everything against Wikipedia and official Oceanographic-oriented websites before I commented. I just removed my comments because they didn't really pertain to the video, but rather towards some guys misinformed mind.

  • Future generations are going to view us as barbarians if we don't change our ways soon.

  • As soon as the USA is attacked, every one wants to know why??.well if the mil can not do excirse to learn well our enemys do not care so we need to be alert

  • President-BUSH I REMEMBER YOUR NAVY SONAR BILL! BEING HIT BY A SHOE IS NOTHING LIKE BEING HIT BY A '29 HARPOON'. THERE IS NO PAIN LIKE PAIN WHALES AND DOLPHINS SUFFER. THE LOUD SONAR IS SO LOUD THAT DOLPHINS AND WHALES BEACH THEMSELVES. FOR EVERY WHALE KILLED TRAUMERTIZES THE WHOLE GROUP OF WHALES CAUSED BY YOUR SONAR BILL MR BUSH. I LOVE THE NAVY, I DO NOT BLAME THE NAVY, LIKE ALL OUR FORCES THEY ARE GOOD PEOPLE, THEY ARE JUST LISTENING TO ORDERS. YOUR SONAR BILL IS EVIL MR. BUSH. (continued)

  • ive heard this shit in hawaii with NO navy ships around. i couldnt believe i was hearing it. i worked for a diving company. and it was LOUD. if i would have spent 6 hours under there i would have had hearing damage, i am also an audio engineer. 240 dB is VERY DEADLY. think about the ecology, if we kill all the whales, the fish would over populate, then theyd eat all the things below them in the food chain. like what happened in china. if you kill all the sparrows the LOCUSTS will EatAllOurFood.

  • LostYourMarbles471. I stand by my words. I wouldn't have said them if I didn't mean them.

And, do you really want to talk about irrational hatred?

You lefties are the most hateful, intolerant, judgmental group of hypocrites that ever lived. When was the last time you saw a conservative spike a tree to cause real injury to a person? Or, how about setting car dealerships on fire, or how about bombing people to stop animal experiments, or.....

  • whats with your irrational hatred of whales? no no, whats with your irrational love of something that kills whales. dissent is the purest form of patriotism. the "patriots" were the rebels remember, when we stopped rebelling, we stopped being patriots.

  • ROOKTABULA.

    Glad you admit it.

    But have you learned anything?

I can't imagine that you have, or ever will.

  • Yah, I've learned that those that cling to fear tend also to be willfully ignorant and willing, too often, to project that hatred onto that, or those, that they don't understand.

This also seems to be, as numerous studies have shown, to be the providence of those right of center; those more willing, even needing, to be told how and what to think.

  • KOOKTABULA. You haven't, and won't ever learn anything.

It's you Earth-worshipping lefties that follow your feelings, without reason.

  • HURRAY!!!!!!

    The Navy won!!!

They get to fully use their sonar, to train the brave, under-appreciated, men and women, who protect these psychotic, animal-worshipping, lunatics, from our enemies.

    I hate these stupid freaks!

    GO NAVY !!

  • I knew...I KNEW there would be comments like this for this video. They are as predictable as sunrise. What IS it with the right wing and its hypercharged determination to appear as big and manly as possible all the time? Killing marine life? Great? All for it! Causing dolphins to die painfully makes me happy because THAT'LL really show those librul tree-hugging freaks!

    Good grief.

Where does this white-hot hatred come from? Honestly. It makes people say the most idiotic things.

  • LostYourMarbles471.

Yeah, that's what the Navy's real purpose is, to rid the planet of marine life, all the while appearing as manly as possible! You must be a genius to have been able to see through their evil plans so quickly!

  • Just trying to get you to step back and look at what you're saying. There is a strain of irrational hatred that runs through much of what's said by right-wing military enthusiasts. It's easy to discern from your words that hating certain people is a more important motivator than anything else, which is pretty unfortunate.

If I'm wrong about the irrational hatred thing, it's on you and your ideological soulmates to prove it. After all, they're YOUR words.

  • foreallies!

  • So basically ANYTHING that is cruel, inhuman, morally and intelligently bankrupt, ill advised, and/or causing ANY sort of negative effect, the Bush cabal will champion..

    Even fekking whales over.

It's not like they have oil or are dark skinned.

    Fekking fascist....

  • ROOKTABULA, your brain is bent.

  • Yup.

Dealing with evil and stupidity will do that to a cerebellum.

  • President Obama: please add this to your "To Do" list. Thank you!

  • Can somebody write the comment Ken Balcomb cuz i hear anything. TYVM

  • Either that or use alternatives to sonar....

  • Or do it out in the deep ocean, where NOT ONLY will they get more realistic results in deep, open water, where subs are more likely AND animals can escape.....

  • ROOKTABULA, you don't even know what the fuck you're talking about!

They need to train in littoral waters, and in the open ocean.

Why don't you please shut the fuck up you ignint-ass, liberal suckbutt.

You lefty idiots just pull shit out of your stupid asses, and if it feels good to you, it's a fact.

You asshole lefties are putting the entire nation at risk, with your insane nonsense!

If this country irritates you fuckers so much, GET THE FUCK OUT !!

  • How Nationalistic, Flag Wavingly, Navel Centered Universe of you to make the ASSumption that I'm stuck in a country with so many narrow minded, chest thumping, mouth fukking breathers! Luckily, I'm not!

The # of people in Amerika, which luckily was less than those living in America, who WILLINGLY voted for the same party that has dragged US+A, + much of the world to the brink in terms of $ and safety only proves ONE thing: There are WAY 2 many woefully ignorant Amerikanz in America.

    DB:DoucheBag.

  • KOOKTABULA. I'm proud of my country, and it's excellent military.

Any thinking person can see that just because someone calls him/herself a conservative, it means nothing. Bush spent like a drunken liberal, left open our borders... He can't even wage a proper war on terrorists. You're so stupid, you actually believe there are two different political parties, and that ant of them will help.

    Dream on douche bag.

  • lol what terrorists? You mean the Israeli spies and the Mossad who did 9/11? Oh okay dumbass... The Israeli spies and the Mossad involvement/connection with 9/11 is too damning to ignore, they obviously did it, like how they attacked the USS Liberty, and the Lavon Affair. Just same ole' classic false flag operations to make idiots like you think it's the "Muslim Arab terrorists" when it's actually the "Talmudic Jew Zionist terrorists". A real SWITCHEROO they pulled on you dumbass Americans

  • Listen, i don't ant to get in your little argument, all im saying is there are alternative methods of remote detection

Sonar is an outdated concept used in the first subs

  • Comment removed

  • Alternatives which do not harm whales can be passive sonar or radar

Active sonar gives away the subs position to anyone within 'earshot'

  • Comment removed

  • Lesson 4: Shortwave radar can easily be used for underwater sighting

Lesson 5: Active sonar is telling the enemy where you are and risking death, submarines rarely use it for anything

    I was Napoleon Bonaparte

  • Comment removed

  • Son, if you are going to go on claiming bullshit like 'i was on a sub' with no obvious way to prove it on the net then this conversation is over

Most subs are equipped with radar nowadays, and radar can penetrate ground, water and pretty much anything you want.

Thesis (PH.D.)--DREXEL UNIVERSITY, 1996.Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 57-04, Section: B, page: 2765.

Also, you haven't addressed the issue of low frequency and passive sonar

Both of which are better for whales

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah this conversation is over

  • Comment removed

  • Do yourself a favor. Since your so smart in all your political ways, go to the FBI building in washington and ask who the enemy is. Better yet make the comment that no enemy exsists. You really have no clue what you're talking about and it shows. Call me a nationalist? At least I know what's going on in the world. Have a great day. I'm done talking with you.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

sound a little confused with what you write. All of your Nationalist opinions are un-supported by your fictional enemy. You assume that I never served in the military and thats were your assumptions are wrong.

You are a Nationalist Boy, because you serve "blindly" without any regard for what actually IS honorable. Honor is more than what you seem to be able to grasp. Enjoy living your fictional life.

  • OH the life guard, yeah I did that before I joined. I don't count regular people when I save them, like you. I count the military. The ones you CAN'T save, smart ass. Besides, if I did give you a name of a country that has other intentions, you'd just fire back with another smart ass comment acting like you know it all. I know more intel then you'd ever dream about the enemy but you still argue like you know everything.

  • NO I'm calling you retarded. I make no mention of disabled people unless you consider yourself one (that wouldn't surprise me) I'm not giving an example because that would be a security issue. You would know that if you had a fucking clue. Thanks for making comments about my dick. Shows how professional you can be. Did I mention I'm a rescue swimmer and I've saved 2 people so far? What the hell have you done with your life besides rag on military personnel. Have a great day nature boy.

  • Rescueswimmer,

I figured an "airhead" would be a rescueswimmer. Wow 2 people, sorry but I was a life guard for several years & rescued more than 20 & actually saved a three people with heat stroke & one heart attack patient.

Its obvious that you are blowing smoke since you can't answer a GENERAL question about who you think is this enemy you describe that has so much sub capability. My question was not specific which would breach security.

Okay Nationalist Boy, have anything intelligent to say?

  • I just gave a brief today and told everyone that they can't go active if their is any marine life in the water. Don't worry, I'll still accommodate for retarded delusional people such as yourself. When I wear my uniform I will obey and protect whatever the poeple want. Understand that my "fictional" enemies are brought up from the government YOU elected. Have a nice day and eat dolphine tuna.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

its unfortunate that that you hold yourself out to be honorable but are standing on the flag of the people w/ remarks at the expense of the mentally retarded. Call me stupid, but have the class not to poke fun at the disabled.

I mentioned fictional enemies, because YOU still have not given a ex. of an enemy with sub capability. You must be suffering from tight pant syndrome, because your little pencil dick is cutting off the blood flow. Sorry I'm a Veggie I don't eat tuna.

  • Well you claimed subs aren't a threat. So in my mind, you're retarded.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

NICE that was a very good intelligent response. Enjoy loving your government and blindly fighting a "Fictional" enemy.

  • Oh I forgot. Russia and China will always be a threat and they don't give a shit about our constitution. Some day when the shit hits the fan you'll see how many subs are really out there. And what threat they pose. Although, You probably won't actually see it because your hiding at home waiting for someone else to fight the battle. Right? I mean that's why you pay taxes and that's your excuse. Whatever helps you sleep at night pal.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

spoken like a good Nationalist boy. Sorry the Politics of Fear are ending, so go take your War Games to a deep trench and allow your little brain to implode. Globalization is the new weapon and we are loosing the battle, because the Military over spends and uses Fear mongering to justify the wasteful useless missions that have caused the US Debt that China secures to be out of control. Just because you are a nationalist soldier, doesn't mean you are above the people.

  • You are a dumb bastard. "war on drugs" includes mini submarines. How many subs did china make last year in conjunction with us? Who does russian sell their subs and technology too? World war 2 is over. That means diesels and nukes. How far can a nuke travel? Has an enemy nuke came in our territorial waters? Answere me all of these questions (since you know every fucking thing in the entire world) and you'll have your own answeres. Your freedom is our gift, you stupid civilian.

  • Submarines are a great threat, and sonar is the weapon. Is your "patriotic family" so willing for america to shut off all sonar operations for the sake of accidently killing dolphines or marine life? So America listens to YOUR petty little cry and turns off all defense. Next time your "patriotic family" goes to the beach and sees an enemy sub parked off the shore -- don't come calling. Other nations don't care about marine life as much as america does. Think before you open your mouth.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

what enemy are you referring too? WWII is over so the Japanese are now friends, the Soviets are no longer a threat, the Chinese don't need Subs or any Military action, because they can Economically destroy us if they wanted too. Lets see the War on Drugs doesn't use Subs. I know you will use the Bush excuse: War on Terror. Really who is the enemy that has really Subs??

  • Worldgruven420,

I'm in the military and thanks for calling me an "asshole" even though I never said anything about you. Don't point your fucking finger at the military. This military has lasted longer than you and will continue to last. Go ahead and blame global warming on the navy. Believe everything you see on youtube. Oh and don't look into any recycling accounts that the navy lives by.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

to clarify the asshole remark came from your own post, so if you want to call yourself one thats your choice. I can point my finger all I want, because I pay you to do your mercenary job for the government of the US. You forget Patriotism is NOT love for the "Nation State" that you work for, but rather the love for the American Family and the Constitution. Have Fun Navy Boy.

  • I hate it when people go all buggy for some cause, and never get all the facts before they start spouting off at how bad something is... Its sickening.. PETA, GREENPEACE, and others are famous for this... Bravo for people trying to make a difference in the world, and im all about going green, but llike any group, there are extremists everywhere.. and they usually shout the loudest..

  • cool

  • The navy does take extreme caution when dealing with sonar. I hate seeing videos like this, that makes the navy look like assholes that don't care. I wonder if the guy making this video recycles? Probably not.

  • Rescueswimmer85,

anytime you deal with the US Military they ARE "assholes", because they only care about the mission. The Military has never w/o pressure stopped an activity. The Military IS the biggest polluter, destroyer and energy user in America and the world. Dam US Military for wasting my tax dollars on worthless technology and for supporting a Nationlist cause. This is NOT Patriotism. Patriotism is the love for family, which also includes the nature of the Americas.

  • do you deal with the military personally? I don't think so, because if you knew how many restrictions we have on the things we can do out to sea, like what can go over the side, how far from land we can, and use of sonar near any known whale. Or the fact that plastic and harmful chemicals are NEVER dumped over the side of ships.. they are kept onboard till we hit port. The water and other liquids you see coming out of the sides of our ships is just that.... water.. used for cooling. thats all

  • navyone1978,

I actually have & do have very intimate knowledge with the Navy and its dirty secrets. I have witnessed several myself. Keep your Navy PR to yourself. Technology actually exists to make sonar safer, but the Navy chooses not to use it. I can't go into details, because of confidentuality issues.

The dumping procedures you are listing is nothing new, because it is part of standard shipping law, otherwise the Navy would be committing illegal dumping at sea.

  • Aww! Those poor dolphins and whales... :(

  • ok this might sound lame, but I believe that through cooperation, and education education education we solve these and other problems. The answers are all right in front of us, we just need to compell our lawmakers to implement them. Maybe these crisis issues are part of the reason there's a push towards globalization?

  • "Ecologies are collapsing. The extinction rate of species is climbing. The amount of chemical pollutants in the water and soil are fast approaching and in many places has surpassed the earth's ability to heal itself. Crop failure is on the rise, even in the USA the returns on crops are smaller than they were 10 years ago. Even with the advances in genetically altered food crops, we are falling behind in our ability to produce enough to go around...

  • Throughout the 20th century chemical fertilizers and pesticides were used to insure the best yields. Unfortunately many of these have contaminated ground water, killed beneficial insects along with the undesirable insects. These chemicals have gotten into the food chain and are affected other species besides mankind. It is only a matter of years before famine spreads like a cancer throughout the world."

(See first link on page for website)

  • :( this makes me sad, and angry.

  • "fire control solution".

    Meaning, blowing people up?

  • In summary, yes. It allows us to accurately pinpoint the contacts position in terms of range and precise bearing (so we dont waste a +$1 million dollar torpedo on something that's 50 miles away when the torpedo can't go that far).

  • Unfortunately, submarines are more quiet and can appear to be invisible even with the sonar you heard. This is what brought more advanced sonar into research, and it is what is shoring marine mammals. US Navy now has regulations, based on the research it did itself, to control the use of ship sonar. However, if an unknown submarine is detected...the ship can very well waive the regulations and use the sonar to pinpoint the suspected submarine for a possible fire control solution.

  • Please do a search for: Sagan Whales.

In that Cosmos episode, shot in the 1970's, Sagan makes a prophetic statement of sorts. Would you share or reply with this video so that this video appears under the one showing what Sagan says about what we're doing to whales?

  • Their as smart as dogs. I'd think that they are smart enough to swim away. If a loud noise hits me, I move.

  • Well the thing about sonar waves moving through water is that they travel outward for a few miles around the point from wich they come and ANY sound is amplified when it's heard under water. The other thing about that is that the whales ARE trying to move away from the sound. That's why they're beaching themselves. They'd rather die than hear the sonar waves because they're hearing is stronger than ours.

  • How does water amplify it? It's thicker then air, should it not dissolve more?

Also, it's none of our concern for it. If a new species evolved that made sonar that bothered whales, would you recommend killing them off? It's life. They'll adapt or move away as life has done for some 3 billion years now.

  • Sound TRAVELS better in water, but it doesn't really amplify it. Cold water allows further (but slower) travel, and warm water allows faster travel (but less distance).

  • oh ok then.

Whatever, their smart mammals and will find other methods to migrate.

  • I'm DONATING NOW!

  • great video (poor whales), and great way to wrap it up on a constructive note.

  • A good intelligent analysis of the problem. Jeez, that sonar sound's distressing, even to me!

  • FYI: This kind of sonar is needed to even get a GLIMPSE of submarines using stealth-like technology!

  • Doesn't mean they have to use it in known whale habitats during peacetime.

  • We haven't since Bahama exercises in 2000, in which the Navy started the research. In a case of a believed unknown submarine, I'm quite sure the Navy will challenge the supposed unknown submarine with Sonar. We so all we can...but yet people complain of a hand full of whale deaths per year in the US 'potentially' due to Sonar compared to Japans thousands of mammal deaths a year due to fishery. Hrmmm.

  • Oh my, thanks for this video. The word needs to be spread!

  • Thanks for this video! Very important issue.

  • I'm a Submarine Fire Control Technician Veteran... Most of my days under the water were spent behind a Sonar stack... Literally, if i wasn't tracking ships and subs in the water i was listening to shrimp, dolphins, and whales... And yes... Shrimp are freakin loud! lol... Subs rarely ever use active unless during training periods or sticky situations... I can't speak for surface folk and how they run... but active can potentially kill a human diver in the water for sure...
