  • ...noticed a mistake with continuity from....10:15-10:18....O.o Kinda funny how the "saddle" moves.

  • At 9:06... it sounds like one of the "ape" men is saying "Wario!!!!" (Nintendo character) I was daydreaming slightly when I heard it.

  • Half man half lion

  • Princess Aura is so hot in this one. (this and the live action movie.) Although I thought she reminds me of Teela from Masters of the Universe.

  • PS: Flash looks like Doc Savage with his shirt all torn ;)

  • @amaxamon Yeah! He certainly does!

  • This so kicks the ass of that shitty awful feature film!!!

  • Brife Comment-This was the last voice-over work of Ted Casiday, before his death

in January 1979. Casiday was also offered the role of "Dragos" in Filmation's live

"JASON OF STAR COMMAND" series-but it eventualy went to Sid Haig.

  • I get up early to watch this show every Saturday Morning I 6 years when I watched it. I never saw the movie until I was 10 years old.

  • That stalactite, im gonna try a long shot!......proper wkd! love this film, used to own it as a kid, need to get it on dvd for sure!! Thanx for the upload dude!!

  • "You are a fool. But I am grateful."

I'll be aiming to use that in everyday life. ahahaha.

  • The score needs praising. Wonderfully epic and also wonderfully 1930s retro.

  • I remember when this came out back in the early 80's ( around 1980 to 82) this was my favorite! I was about 15 . Of all the versions done of Flash Gordon, this was the most faithful to the original comic.

  • By god the man can handle an axe

  • Fimation had a real penchant for making anthro cat-people, like Thun and M'Ress as well as for gorgeously illustrated backgrounds and character designs in general. Just look at Princess Aura and her warrior women her; I'll bet old George Lucas had his people swipe some of the designs for Aurra Sing in the PT movies.

  • What BEAUTIFUL animation/rotoscoping at 9:49 to 9:53. Not only that, but that imperial ship/fighter (whatever it is) is an incredible design... another great hallmark of this series was the beautiful "back-lighting" seen in the jet-engine-exhaust-power-source at the tail of this ship, and also the rocket - and all through the series here and there (that curtain of energy Ming walks through etc). Nothing compares to that special lighting - which was seen, sparsely in films here and there.

  • @anonyms404

Indeed the animation of the spaceships in this film is excellent and I was thinking the exact same thing about the ray-curtain that Ming walks though, it looks so cool & sinister.

I specifically like the animation of the rocket ship in the beginning of the film as it approaches Mongo and the rotational animation when it gets shot down! It looks like CGI!

  • @anonyms404

The coolest thing in this film is the Hawkmen's sky city, especially the anti-gravity rays under the city. That effect looks beautiful and awe inspiring!

  • @anonyms404 Yeah, I love the use of rotoscoping in this movie. The Heavy Metal movie also uses this technique as well as a lot of Ralph Bakshi's films. Of all the different animated films that use rotoscoping (that I've seen) this film uses it to it's best effect.

  • @anonyms404 that is indeed a bad ass ship design!

  • @anonyms404 Well, Filmation Studios was way ahead of their time when it came

    to special effects.

  • @anonyms404 I totally agree. One of the treasures from childhood the memories of this series is. I have never seen a better produced animated feature. Awesome!

  • Do you have this movie on DVD and would you be willing to sell a copy?

  • I saw a DVD of 14 episodes from the series last night and it looked interesting to me, I was unable to purchase it so I looked into it and heard about this Television movie with expectations not much higher than the Super Friends but still thought to enjoy it, however its ended up being quite addictive with such high quality in production value.

  • this could make a very good movie

  • The voice of the Lion Man, if I'm correct, sounds like Ted Cassidy, who played Lerch on the Addams Family tv show. Cool Voice!! Thanks for posting this cartoon.

  • You are right, it is Ted Cassidy, but if I'm not mistaken, he didn't do the voice on the series. That was Allan Melvin.

  • @BPrice1A That's right. It was Allan Melvin. He died just last year.

  • That Lion man is pretty cool!

  • this portion of the story, the beast men etc, is used for the fith episode of the filmation series.

the first ep has flash and his crew crash into the water become slaves of the fishmen, escape, and then meet ming.

  • the guy who did the voice for flash is the same guy that did thundar the barbarian...

  • I don't know to what extend Peeples did this on purpose, but the image of Ming as a huge --but impotent- stone monolith, having the little earthlings climbing on to the top, it's a brilliant image, resuming the entire Flash Gordon Saga. This scene is priceless.
