I hate to tell you this, but your 2 thumbs down is totally wrong!!! These pickups are designed to give a beefy single coil sound without the 60 cycle hum associated with traditional strat single coils. The "stacked" coils are placed one on top of the other,(instead of side by side like a normal humbucker)allowing the pickup to retain the bright ,focused sound of a single coil as opposed to the thicker sound of a traditional humbucker. In future,do some research before you spout off!!
@carnoape My research is fine. I'm saying if you want great tone you have to be pure. Any split coil pup ive ever heard never sounds as good as the real deal. Read my response to @Archielsted. All that split coil pups ever sounds like is a half assed humbucker and a half assed single coil. But a strat and a Les Paul, put in a set of Lollar or Fralin pups in each, and then you'll actually have good/real tone. Single coils are supposed to have noise and hum. That's how Leo intended them to be.
@carnoape There's no such thing as the best of both worlds. The best of both worlds is buying a proper strat/tele and buying a proper Les Paul or 335 or SG. That's the only way you'll ever get good tone. Coil splitting pickups just don't sound as good as a pure single coil or humbucker. Neither do "noiseless single coils". Period. You know why Jason Lollar doesn't make a noiseless single coil? They compromise the integrity, history and tone of the electric guitar.
@PeteWojMusic - "There's no such thing as the best of both worlds" - this makes NO sense whatsoever. A Strat is supposed to sound like a Start? What?!?! There are no rules man, and if you try to make rules, you'll never achieve an exciting, unique sound. The only thing you said that makes ANY sense whatsoever is, "at the end of the day it's all about tone". Agreed! The guitar in this demo is achieving an AWESOME tone, so whatever is going on here WORKS! That's all I care about. Peace.
@cs80fred there is no such thing as the best of both worlds. thats my point. this pickup is trying to achieve the best of both worlds (world 1 being single coils and world 2 being humbuckers). what don't you understand about a Strat is supposed to sound like a Strat? why put HB'ing single coils in a strat? that defeats the whole purpose of the strat. Leo Fender is rolling in his grave. I'm a tone purist. Coil splitting is not pure. You get a pup that sounds like a half assed SC and HB. Period.
@PeteWojMusic - You say you're a "purist"... I can respect that. That's your thing, ok. My thing is experimenting to find new, interesting and unique sounds / tone. No disrespect to Leo, but I really don't care about his original intentions, let the other 20 million Strat owners sound the same, I want something fresh and different, and I don't care how I get it, as long as it's GOOD. You say it's not possible to get good tone with a "hybrid" set-up, I say you're wrong. This demo proves it.
@cs80fred I dont want 20 million Strat owners to sound the same... The way an individual creates a tonal voice goes far beyond the guitar alone. Take Clapton and Yngwee... 2 strat players. 2 completely different tonal voices. all i'm doing is expressing my distaste for split coil/hybrid pups. i think split coils sound like garbage. the singlecoils don't sound like good singlecoils and the humbuckers dont sound like good humbuckers. just sounds like pickup that cant make up its mind.
if you want a humbucker, then go buy a fucking humbucker. and if you dont want a strat sound (which is what the humbucker is going against) then dont buy a strat. two thumbs down.
@ArchieIsted Strats are supposed 2 sound like strats. They're supposed 2 have noise and hum. If you want a humbucker tone, then switch over 2 ur LP or 335. At the end of the day its all about good tone. Noiseless single coils may be noiseless, but never sound as good as a Lollar Blackface pup. And as much as they resemble a humbucker, they'll never sound like a LP. So what you get is some half assed tone thats not a strat, not a LP, just some shitty mongoloid tone.
@PeteWojMusic i do and thats a problem? its my opinion, i also love the blues and classic rock and even some jazz i dont tie myself to one genre like you seem to. There are no rules to tone and if you think there are you will never create something new or unique in your sound :)
@Mo7Vsta its cool that someone else plays them for a different style of sound imo. Obviously you can get PG sound with these pups considering he uses them, good to know that they can play other styles
You know what I love about this video - Less talk and more action. Carl use his super talent to show us that this pickups rocks!! and that our strat are going to be blessed by using them. Thanks Carl
I think the CBS/70s stock is pretty cool. I like big headstocks in general though. It's like the company is trying to make itself more noticeable without slapping a huge logo on it like some Gibsons and the old T shaped BC Rich logo from the 70s
@NHBluesMan It's a high gain pickup... If you are "that" concerned about cleans then its not for you. It's sounds ok on a clean channel... But its mostly for Hard Rock/ Metal/ Lead/ Shredding players... Though it does sound good with blues.
Man, AWESOME sound coming out of that guitar! Really clear, present, in your face, and plenty "raw". Serious attitude and wonderful tone. I haven't checked out any DiMarzios in recent years, but this video is going to send me straight to the DiMarzio website. There's something really good going on here and I want in! And, oh yeah, as usual, Mr. Roa has totally ripped it up, super bad-ass playing, he always makes the gear sound good. Smokin'!!!
@dbenc - Good studio gear doesn't necessarily enhance the sound, but helps deliver it accurately, with maximum original fidelity. It cannot ADD fidelity. If anything, good studio gear will EXPOSE any weaknesses in the source sound. This says a lot for these DiMarzio pick-ups, guitar, etc. Good studio gear will not make things sound better, it just doesn't make things sound worse. Mr. Roa's sound here is excellent, and it all STARTS with the guitar and pick-ups... and hands!!! 100% exposed.
@cs80fred Well I can assure you there are no weakness in his sound source. And I've recorded many times through the years and I sound much better in my recording projects. Just listen to Brittany Spears. If Paris Hilton can put out a album then your theory that studio gear and processors cant make things sound better is more idiotic than you.
@dbenc - Spears and Hilton recordings sound like shit, what's your point? In the DiMarzio demo here, the SOURCE sound is excellent, and is being recorded accurately, capturing the ACTUAL tone and fidelity of the guitar / amp. The recording gear does not make the pick ups sound better than they actually do. With ALL pro recording, a great end product STARTS with a great source sound. You know the saying, you can't polish a turd. Roa's guitar and pick-ups sound great, the demo proves it.
@JoshuaSmits u can take two of them and make them a humbucker. or area67 + injector. even better.
but u should make a splitting there because they are stacked. anyway lace sensor pickups in my opinion are 102598 times better... both hot, normal, humbuckers, stacked and duallies
these sound badass, kinda like ritchie blackmoore, or yngwie even
