  • Extremely good video. Thank you! From NBR. Just bought one from a member can't wait to getting in. Also all screens are matte right? Your IPS panel looked somewhat glossy at an angle. Thanks for size comparisons though!

  • @aznguyen316 That screens matte yes. It should have stood out a lot against the very netbook, which was an example of a glossy screen.

You can order it with a TN based screen, although not sure why :o Also, there was a minor revision to the IPS panel to reduce ghosted images (screen stuck on something high contrast for a long time will take a few minutes for it to disappear)

  • @supercockroach Aw man when was the revision? I bought a lightly used one but it was originally purchased in July. =(

  • Hi,

I just ordered an x220 i7, and am super excited. Quick question: When I went through the checkout, there was no option for a USB3.0, but from what I've read online, that port comes with all i7s. I just wanted to know if you remember explicitly choosing a USB3.0 or if it was mentioned in the checkout?

I'm ordering from the Canadian store. Hope it doesn't make a difference. Prompt reply appreciated before they ship it out!

  • @tskopek you are right, all i7 models have the USB 3 on them :) its not something you choose to add on.

  • i think we have tariffs thats why the laptop is so expensive in australia.

  • I have a ASUS G73 and just bought a X220 before seeing this video. Weird.

  • What does it mean by screen flickering? Does your x220 have any of that screen flickering by any chance? Hopefully not.

  • @Minishglob Screen flickering was due to the intel driver reverting down 50hz when on battery. This was in an older driver and has since been fixed.

  • @supercockroach thanks. I needed to learn. How you liking your Thinkpad? Is the fan quiet?

  • @Minishglob Still great :) it's quieter than my desktop by much, if I have a maxxed out cpu the fan speeds up but still not annoying. When turning pc on it has a brief moment of fans running full speed but that isn't bad either.

  • @supercockroach Great to hear that the fans are not so bad. Sorry about the price differences with US and AUS.

  • oh wait it's on the left, the yellow one on the right is usb2.

  • hang on i thought the i7 came with usb3, why is there no usb3 on this?????

  • do u feel that the status indication light is not as bright as say my X200 Tablet?

  • I am planning to buy the X220 i7 version. I have heard a lot of stories about the throttling problem which is preventing me.

  • I have a couple questions for you:

    (1) Does the fan have annoying whine or pulsing to it? i.e. throttling issues, bad fan.

    (2) Do you have the IPS screen? If so, is there an image persistence problem?

I ask these questions because I have been reading some horror stories from the laptop.

  • @KlingonSpider

    google this

    lcd image persistence ghosting lenovo

to get to the official lenovo response

(couldn't post a link here, don't know why)

  • I've read reviews that tout the i5 version's 7 hour battery life. How much does the more powerful i7 affect the battery life?

  • @tmantothetran It actually doesn't affect the battery life much. It's about an hour less depending on your power settings. But I changed my HDD to SSD and my battery life went up to 10 hours! But again, it depends on your power settings.

  • Great video, thanks! How is the fan noise? I've read some horror stories about it (especially with the i7) and I have a config saved in my cart and this is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger. Thanks again.

  • @BlueBackflip It may have been a bad batch possibly, I've read that too. This ones fine. If you look at the other vids in my channel, there is one with it running and capturing in hdmi. There was a bios firmware update 1.16 which helped some with fan noise, and even 1.17 just came out now with a fix for the throttling issue reported.

  • @BlueBackflip You should pull the trigger. You won't be disappointed. The fan wasn't that much noisy after the Firmware update to 1.17 and I didn't do the 1.16. I also upgraded my HDD to SSD which required less power, giving me longer battery life and I can't even hear anything from my CPU fan or drive. LOL...it's amazing and I enjoy it. I use it for IT work and photoshop, no gaming. Just a sturdy machine overall.

  • For web browsing stuff, its fine - there are multiple ways to scroll, my fav being using the trackpoint and the middle mouse button (the one in the video with blue circles on it), and its seamless. That pretty much gets rid of any scrolling problems there.

I have run into an app which is greedy with screen space - Blackmagic media express can't see the bottom of it, but shortcuts get rid of the need to click them anyway.

  • Thanks for making the video. How are you finding the 1366x768 resolution for general usage (web browsing, etc.)?
