  • were there any modifications to the bike?

  • @toshiyatsujimura FMF header and FMF silencer with fuel injection programmer is all. GYTR sprockets. Renthal bars. Dunlop 606 tires.

  • @toshiyatsujimura I also took off about 10-20 pounds of useless junk like the rear foot pegs, emissions can, and EXUP servo plus I drilled some holes in the side of my airbox to open up the intake.

  • That bike is so ugly

  • @LOVESooMOTERCYCLES Did I ask for your opinion or are you just not intelligent enough to think of anything else to say? This bike aint made to be pretty- so why dont you mosey on back to mambee pambee land you wussy? I think they had a huffy on craigslist with training wheels- that might work perfect for you. Oh, and I tried watching one of your short, blurry, jerky 10 seconds videos... Learn how to use a camera bro. You can't even tell how ugly your bikes are cause you suck at filming so bad.

  • whats the pink light thing below the handle bars?

  • @AussieJarred That is the top of the FMF Power Programmer which you can use to remap the acceleration curve on your throttle. It doubles as an RPM gauge and the top light flashes when you are decelerating (letting off the gas). The rest of the time it climbs like a digital tachometer. Try searching for FMF power programmer, someone else probably has a video of it in action. You can basically twist the throttle and the lights go up and down with the engine rev just like the RPM needle in a car.

  • @noah44444 cool thanks, i think i am going to get a wr250r but i only weigh 65kgs, and wanted something fairly nimble on the trails, but not much maintenance. do you reckon it would be a good bike for me? i think ill be mainly riding trail but i will do some road riding, and some mild jumps (cant see myself jumping much over 20ft) i have had a crf70 and thumpstar 125 which was fully modded out and put out 14hp on the dyno.... other than that i dont have much big bike experience... cheers

  • PAY ATTENTION TO THE ROAD!!

  • @101dunerider I was watching the road but the bill on my dirt helmet points downward.

  • @noah44444

Do the turnsignals work as a running light from the factory on these, or is it a mod?

  • @Sismiques Yes, the WR250R does have running lights from the factory but I actually have the LED lights now which do not have running lights included.

  • @noah44444

So were the old lights dual filament?

  • @Sismiques I honestly didn't have the original lights on long enough to have to change the bulb but I do believe there is a single dual-filament bulb. I will dig them out of the garage when I get home and let you know. Are you thinking of buying a WR250R? I do miss my running lights as I feel more visible from behind and the sides when riding at night on the highway.

  • OMG fly racing bars! are u mad? they bend like tin foil!

  • @FrogyMX21 Actually those are good old renthals underneath but I like the FLY bar pad I found laying on the trail one day more hahaha... Thanks for your concern.

  • @noah44444 Correction! Those are actually the crappy stock yamaha bars... I am running a set of renthals now (carmichael & windham bend).

  • hey how stiff is the susspension cause i need a bike that i can do motocross with and jump it like a normal bike just for fun though i know i cant compete against a regular yz250 with this

  • @kfx70099 It's pretty heavy for the track at just under 300 lbs. I dont do motocross myself, mainly rocky roads and tight singletrack through the woods. The guys I have read about who do take it out to the track all run heavier springs on them. The stock tires and pipe are terrible. It wasnt until I added the pipe and fuel injection programmer that it came alive. Also for the track you would want to get a way larger rear sprocket than the tiny one it comes with or drop a tooth up front.

  • Sweet thing is its a 6 speed with a wide gear ratio so you can tear up the dirt and then cruise home on the highway at 80 MPH.

  • @noah44444 ya i really want to get a kx 450f or 250 f and make it street legal cause i pretty much do all motocross when i ride do u think its a good idea i know the gearing wont be as good for road but i dont care

  • @kfx70099 The last Kawasaki I rode was an 87 two stroke KX125. That thing was a screamer. Have not had a chance to ride any of the new Kawi four strokes.

Getting a track bike street plated here in cali is next to impossible now so the WR was an easy choice for me versus an older bike.

I had my eye on the WRs fuel injection and 6 speed. The WR comes with high lift cams straight from the factory. Revs to high RPMs quick and hang comfortably. Snappy throttle response with the FMF on there.

  • Hey I have a WR250R and it overestimates the speed by about 6mph. Checked on ThumperTalk and others see the same. I think it's because the speed comes off the gear box. I've had mine up there a few times. It gets a little spindly in the front at those speeds for my liking.

  • @Montgisard Yes, the speedos are definitely off by about 5 mph making the actual speed in this video about 82 MPH. I have another video posted here doing 94 mph on the speedo and have actually seen 97 mph before so I would estimate the top speed at about 90-92 mph without pushing it too hard. Not bad for a 250cc dirt bike in my opinion!

  • does this bike have a fuel gauge?

  • @YamahaFreak01 No fuel gauge, but it does have a handy red light on the dash that comes on when you are low.

  • I do have a video up. And in the video i droped 1 tooth in the front. Other wise I hit 90 mph stock. In the video I said 82 but I subtracted 8 mph because of the gear. And my video in the dirt.

  • @spakls103 This is stock gearing and I was not trying to blow up the motor with 1000 miles on it. Which video of yours has the 82 MPH posted? All of your videos I have watched so far have your FMF pipe and power programmer. How did you have your programmer setup? In this video I am running the stock out-of-the-box settings that it has straight from FMF. How do you normally have yours set? Good looking bike! Wish I had a dyno like that in my shop!

  • Sweet video. You are really rippin it up on that 250. I like your little track by the railroad there.

I didnt realize you were on dirt man, that is gonna throw your speed off even more. The only way to get a decent reading with aftermarket sprockets and spinning the wheels in the gravel/dirt like that is with a GPS. I strapped my girlfriends little garmin on mine and compared which is how I know for sure mine is about 5 mph off at exactly 90 mph.

  • @spakls103 We have also confirmed this by running her camaro side by side with my bike on the freeway, her at 85 mph and me at 90 mph neck and neck (until she dropped the pedal and left me haha). As I said before the first video I shot I still breaking her in and it was only a test run. My second video I posted more recently I hit an indicated 94 mph.

  • @spakls103 Have you ever tried an aluminum 47 tooth rear on your WR instead of a smaller front sprocket? I keep one around for when I go offroading deep into the nasty stuff.

  • I get that out of my 08 Wr 250 R stock

  • @spakls103 So post a video are prove it then bud. This was the first test run on my new setup and I was not trying to push her too hard (read the description). Also, you are most likely a lot lighter than me. I have another video posted of her doing 94 but we all know the speedos on these WRs are junk. The mods were intended to enhance my 0-60 and response, not top speed. This thing has a way better hair trigger now that she is all uncorked.

  • what is this bikes 0-60 and top speed with a aftermarket pipe cheers nice bike

  • @minibikepro33 I have never done a 0-60 MPH test with my WR250R but I will try to post a video from a dead stop later this week if it stops raining. In the meantime I suggest you search youtube for the video posted of a guy on a Yamaha WR250X (exact same frame and power as WR250R but supermoto version) versus another guy on a Kawasaki Ninja 250 at the drag strips. I think it was a quarter mile. Guess who wins?

  • bad ass

  • @abc123abc012 Hey thanks. Checkout my new 94 MPH video.

  • *Thumbs up!*

What settings are you using on your FMF Power Programmer?

  • I run the stock FMF settings most of the time. Occasionally I will bump up the acceleration mode a couple of clicks when I go through the really nasties.

  • are looking at the f..kin road? lol

  • I had the camera angled down to show the MPH on the digital speedo. The camera was bolted to the bill of my dirt bike helmet which is always pointed down.

  • I went with a 12T from and 45T back. I know that messes up the speedometer a little but I had it reading 102mph. I know I was going near that fast because it was on a service road right along side the Atlantic City Expressway, where cars usually travel around 70. I was blowing past them. After the all of the mods are done the WRR really rips. I had more fun on this bike than any I've ever owned!

  • either way as long as i can ride at 70-80 on the highway ill be happy im looking for a dual sport type bike i can ride to work and around twisty back roads and take it up to where i ride and hit the trails

  • the DRZ400S is one to look at..

  • A stock WR250R will do an indicated 105 mph.

  • @kj7687 And you don't need to be wearing a street helmet to get that out of it, lol... I got an indicated 83 out of my friend's in fifth gear.

  • Read the description man, it was a test run and I was still still breaking her in. Yeah I also cruise at 80 mph all day in 5th. But I noticed with a dirt helmet you get more front end wobble at speeds over 80 mph. A tighter jacket and visored street helmet help cut down on the draft especially in heavy winds.

Have you ever tried bolting a camera to the bill of your helmet?? It's not exactly aerodynamic.

  • haha is that where the cam was?

  • super iffy. glad you came out ok....not exaggerating...that mount loc is intense w/ a dirt bike helmet. tried it, couldent get over thinking i was going to die every time i sat up.....lol ish

  • A stock WR250R will not do 105 indicated with me on it. You must weigh a lot less than I do.

  • A stock WR250R with stock gearing will NOT do 105mph.... unless your speedo is really out. With stock gearing, the theoretical limit at the 10,000rpm limit is 99mph, and that needs to be downhill with a tailwind with the torque the bike has. My WR does 92mph indicated

  • This is my post and I'll decide when it's the "end of story" thanks hahaha.

Look buddy, if you can do 105 MPH on your WR250R with stock everything then bolt a freakin camera to your helmet like I did and prove it to everyone instead of talking smack.

And once again, everyone, I didn't post this claiming to be the WRs "top speed" or anything like that. I just wanted to show how the WR can easily cruise at over 80 MPH (indicated) without being totally wound out.

  • I havnt riden one yet, but are they decently powerful? it seemed like it in this video lol

  • I want a WR so badly!

  • I've had my WR250X up to 106MPH stock gearing

  • You must have wound the shit outta that thing. What do you weigh?

  • Yeah, it wasn't to the limiter, but i rev it just as hight to go 80 in 5th. i weigh 150 lbs. And FYI, the new Bridgestone BT003's are the best tires for the 250x. They are 3 compounds and have great wear.

  • See I am 6'2" and weigh like 220 lbs so there is no way my R on nobs is gonna get up above 100 mph with my huge ass on there. I believe it though, with a smaller rider it could def do that. If I ever invest in some street wheels for my R I will have to try those bridgestones out.

  • Those speedo's read about 4-5 mp/h fast. Have a GPS?

My GPS speed was 84 stock

  • Yeah, mine was about the same. When I did my GPS run it was really hard to see the handheld GPS I have and the speedo at the same time heading into the wind.

  • halfstep...you get 50 mpg on your r6????...what year is it?...cause on my 06 R6 i get about 30 and thats babyin it...20 at the track...thats why i got a wr250x for daily rider...66 mpg avg this week!!

  • Wow 66 is not bad! Are you running it completely stock?

I need to do an updated video like this because my bike is WAY louder now that I opened up the airbox and drilled some holes in the plastics. This baby can really BREATHE now!

  • yes...shes stock and i was taking it easy on her....perhaps beating on it would result in 50ish mpg

  • I rode one of these today at durhamtown, so powerful. loved it!

  • You say you ride it hard, how often do you do oil changes and check the vavles?

  • Well that depends on if I am just commuting back and forth to work or taking hard long trips up into the woods in 100+ degree weather. The first 3000 miles I did the oil every 500 miles or so and was really gentle on the throttle for the first 1000 miles like when I shooting this clip.

  • According to the book, the valves aren't due until 26,600 miles but I will probably check mine around 10,000 just to be safe. I know that sounds like a lot of miles but this bike is not high maintenance like typical dirt bikes. From what I have read this bike comes with "titanium intake valves". Try googling wr250r valve interval and see the article on advrider com. Some say the fuel injection helps keep things more consistent than a carb setup.

  • Thinking about this or a WR250X. Can't decide!

    Did you buy yours new?

  • Yeah I bought mine brand new from the local Yamaha shop. At the time there were not really any used ones on the market yet. I didn't plan on riding it on the street so much when I bought it but now I ride it everywhere (work, woods, etc). I mainly rode dirt before getting this bike and just wanted something to learn on and get my M1 license with.

  • What do you plan on using it for the most? Around here we have tons of dirt trails just minutes from town so I went with the R.

If you mainly ride street you can always go for the X and then buy a 2nd set of rims mounted with nobs for the dirt.

Checkout the website wheelingsupply, they have a set of black ones that match the WR250X's black frame.

I bought a set of Dunlop D606 nobs for my WR250R and they rip it up on the dirt and arent so bad on the street either.

  • Not exactly sure. I love riding trails but I'll probably end up riding street more, I just used to dirt bike and miss it bad!

With the WR250X can you slap a larger front wheel on it for the dirt? I believe the WR250R comes with a 18" front tire or something. That alone would be nice in dirt.

Hell if I can have a set of both kinds of wheels for street or dirt, would it even matter which bike I get?!

Thanks for your reply, by the way

  • Aside from the WR250X being black instead of silver like the WR250R, the WR250X comes with a larger front brake disc and of course the supermoto wheels. It's probably going to be more expensive to buy the 17" supermoto wheels aftermarket than the 21" and 18" dirt wheels aftermarket.

So if you plan on buying a second set of wheels I think it is actually cheaper to go with the WR250X and then buy a set of dirt wheels aftermarket than to buy the WR250R and then buy the supermoto tires aftermarket

  • A lot of guys are also buying a second set of brake discs and sprocket for their dirt rims so you don't have to swap that out each time either.

I did read a post about a guy who mounted a 17" back tire on the front rim of his WR250X for offroad since he couldnt find a 17" front nob and didnt want to buy larger rims but I wouldn't recommend it.

  • Also, if you will mainly be riding on the street you might want to consider the Suzuki DRZ400SM. It is heavier but has more horsepower. I chose the Yamaha 250 because I wanted a lighter bike for the trails and planned on about 80% dirt and only 20% street.

Try googling WR250X vs DRZ400s and read the post over at thumpertalk. Also try googling WR250X vs WR250R for more on that.

  • Thanks man! Have been helpful

Oh, and I have read for literally hours on WR250X vs DRZ400SM. The battle seems to be about even. DRZ has more horsepower, but it is also 25 pounds heavier.

There are multiple DRZs for sale in my area actually. For some reason my mind won't let go of the WR250X.

Oh, and I was curious. What kind of gas mileage do you get? The website states 71 mpg for the WR250X, but I have heard of 50 mpg! Thats the same as my R6!

71 mpg would definitely, be awesome.

  • Yeah I get about 50 mpg with my FMF pipe and programmer but I ride the hell out of it though.

  • What's the best mpg you have gotten? Do you know?

  • I did get over 60 mpg when I first bought it and it was bone stock but I dont let the tank go completely dry so I cann't be certain. I don't think I have ever got the 70 mpg they claim in the ads but I am a *ahem* larger guy for a 250cc bike so that probably doesnt help either.

  • Oh ok. Thanks. 60mpg is good enough!

  • i got 149 KMH in mine!

  • Sweet 149 KMH = 93 MPH

I took mine up to 95 MPH with the 13 tooth front and 43 tooth rear. I tried a 47 rear, was great off road but topped out at only like 65 MPH on the street.

This video was shot back in January when I was till breaking her in.

  • i gotta know man do you ride with other people on the street with street bikes or any other BIGGER supermotos cuz my freind has a 510 husqavarna(w/e) and they go for about the same price and i like the bike

  • Well I keep up with my buddy on his big old 750 cruiser except when he hits warp speed on the freeway. I want to point out that mine is NOT the supermoto version. I have the street legal dirt bike version and rip up the mud and gravel roads daily so slicks would just not work for me. I need a good trail bike that can also do some street. Last I checked the Husqvarna 510 cost a few thousand more. My Yamaha WR was 5800 and the Husqvarna TE510 lists at 8600. For that much I might just get a KTM

  • is the topspeed the same without the mods you have

  • I didn't push her very hard when I first got her and was running her stock. I was still breaking the motor in slowly but the mods (pipe and fuel injection programmer) definitely increased the top speed and I have no doubt better gearing and full throttle would take it up another additional 10 MPH.

Since posting this video back in January I have seen 95 MPH on my speedo which I estimate is really around 88-90 MPH given the speedo is a little off.

  • Is the only difference with this bike and the 250x the wheel and tire size? Same engine and all, right?

  • Correct. The WR250X is the supermoto version and the WR250R is the dual sport version. Same engine and tranny form what I understand. I believe the X usually comes with a black frame and the R comes with a silver one like mine.

A lot of guys have been just buying a whole extra set of street wheels for their WR250R so you can just slap them on when are you in the mood for a street ride.

The nobs grip well enough for me on the street, I dont try to set any land speed records or anything.

  • I heard the Dunlop D606s are a great nob that also grips good on the street. I plan on a pair of them soon. My stock nobs are pretty much bald after 4000 miles.

  • hey dude is truth the gas tank is too small? also is alot work to make this bike faster? THANKS!!!!!

  • Haha yeah the tank could defintely use another gallon but that is standard for the stock tank to be too small, my other dual sport was the same way before I upgraded to a 4 gallon Clarke tank. There are aftermarket tanks on the way about to hit the market any day for the WRs. A lot of work? No not really. It only took me a couple of hours to swap the pipe, plug in the programmer, and pull off the smog junk. I enjoyed slapping the upgrades on, it gave me a chance to get familiar with the new bike

  • hey man, i got the same bike and programmer, dude please message me back with the levels your runnin on the programmer

  • I just run the stock programmer levels but I do remember seeing a thread over on the Thumper Talk forum with some good advice on how to remap it.

  • o ok cool

  • Alright a ThumperTalk member :D Most of us WR250r/x guys are there ^_^

    Nice video

  • Oh yeah I love the ThumperTalk forums. Anytime I am considering a mod to my bike I check with the fellas there first.

I first went to ThumperTalk while Googling a way to eliminate the stock EXUP servo from my WR250R without triggering the dreaded check engine light. Thanks to the diagram Steveakus posted I was able to do just that.

  • Just the opposite of what i do - I degear the bike for quicker pick up - this bike isn't for 80 mph on motorway but burning round town

  • Whatever floats your boat...

I commute about 20 minutes to work during the week on a highway and take it on long trips into the mountains on the weekends. My goal was to find a bike that would hang at 80 MPH on the street but still be light and agile enough to tear up the trails with my buddies and not get left in the dust. I might consider dropping down a sprocket size in the front if I take it for an all off road trip but the stock gearing has plenty of acceleration for me as is.

  • I absolutely love this video, I am planning on getting a wr250r this summer I hope! I am still wondering though if this bike can be geared up higher yet to achieve an even higher top speed? Can you run it at 75 mph all day long with out wrecking the motor? These are the ?s I would like answered before I buy one.

  • Oh yeah my WR250R will do 75 MPH all day. Shoot I dont even shift into 6th gear until I hit around 80. In my opinion top speed really depends on rider size, riding style, etc.

Checkout the Thumpertalk Forums WR250R and WR250X photo gallery by googling wr250 photo gallery.
