For all the people who are having trouble with the buttons: here is a list of buttons i used for this vid.

first of all there is something really handy for editing in side view and that is setting your Rotate view to pan vieuw. by doing this you can use the middle mouse button instead of using shift + middle mouse button for moving.

numb pad 3: going to side view

space: adding an UV Sphere

g: move the sphere

s: scale the sphere

a: deselecting all

b + b: selecting part of sphere

Images can only be seen when you are straight in front of them. So press 1 to change your view to frontview, 3 to change to leftview or 7 to change to topview. Then your image will be visible again

Press B twice and your curser will change, so you can drag a box around the reqiured verticals,seeing as tho you just started with blender I would suggest that google search "blender noob to a pro" its a wikipedia page and its were I started.

Control r say error loop crosses itself so no go. Also you didnt say how to select a whole row of verticies or how to cut them when you do. This is no good for new people trying to follow along. Could not complete will check back later.

or you culd have traced it with a bezier curve then spun it, that would have made a almost perfect copy depending on how well you traced it
