  • AE86

  • Looks like drifting around a corner is faster than slowing down.. look at how fast the AE86 goes around the corner.. but only works for short distance i guess..

  • 0:54 Tofu delivery coming throught, Shingo! Move!

  • i like how AE86 was teasing the EK9 by starting to drift after it took over on the corner lololol

  • they should do this on a mountain it will be more fun

  • The 86 driver tends to tease the EK9 every corners after taken over :P

  • togetherrrrr foreverrrrrr

  • even if there's the new ae86 the "ft 86", i think tak would still stay on the classic one, the trueno!

  • @TheUgatan but i still assume it will be expensive ..... sad face

  • I'm waiting for FT-86 VS FD2 :D

  • Takumi vs Shingo in real life xD hehehe...

  • lol

  • :O What if da V-Tec kicked in!

  • whooped his tits lol 4age FTW

  • he overtook from the outside OMGOMGOMGOMG..

  • Takumi ~! AE-86 Drift ~! Awesome ~!

  • INITIAL D yeahhhh

  • Honda is gay!

  • i don't care that the ek9 lost i still love my honda ^_^ and i'm pretty sure everyone who actually likes the car that they own be it a ford fiesta to a ferrari enzo would probably say the same

  • v-tec kicked in YO!

  • 0:00 to 2:30

    WHERE IS THE DRIFT?

  • Takumi wins!

  • このビデオ持ってます

  • wow @ 1:57, i need to learn how to do that shit when im getting late for work.

  • Bunta and Tsuchiya-san are friends :)

  • gotta love them corollas!

  • its VTEC... NOT V-TEC.

  • I don't understand why when there is a V-TEC as a comparison to another engine, V-TEC must be a winner....... Please considered that there are many type of engine out there that can fight V-TEC equally...

  • waw that's soooo funny XD lol

  • Beautiful drifting, goddamn.

  • V-TEC spoon spec pom keno..!

    huh..4age TRD is monster..!

  • LOL...at people thinking that EK was stock.

  • Clowning on the last lap with the Drift skillz

  • ROUND THE OUTSIDE, ROUND THE OUTSIIIIDE

  • c'mon lads,tuning ae86 vs stock ek9? its unfair k,,,

  • @brandonacoustik It was ok for toyota until the mid 90's when then were still in rallying with the GT4's. When they pulled out of ralying is when the real rot set in for toyota road cars

  • @brandonacoustik The new supras are bad ass and so is the Lexus LFA both are rear wheel drive. For starters the AE86 was never a race car lol, it was just really cheap and street racers could afford to toy with them.

  • @SuperAnimekid what you on about twin cam's are not a cheep car they hold more value than civic's

  • @messer0744 just so you know most civics were dohc in most countries except for America. As far as the rest of your comment about price, I honestly can't remember what my statement was.

  • @SuperAnimekid (twin cam) is a slang name for a toyota corolla ae86 were im from ,was not talking bout civic's

  • @messer0744 oh ok I know em as a Hachi or Hachi Roku

  • @SuperAnimekid yeah i know that. There use for drifting is what made them famous and so damn collectible.

  • Thats why i drive an 86 ;)

    Honda FTL haha

  • @romeie16 Modified vs Stock

  • @bogdan135 you really think the ek i stock?

i doubt it. so with slight mods, 86 takes the win

  • @S2K1NG EG, duh. I'm a Honda fanboy aswell. Maybe my magical hope will let it win!

  • stock for stock the EK I'll slaughter the AE, AEs are terrible in stock trim, it isn't after running that they become monsters, civics have a great starting point and are mod friendly also, would live to see these run tuned for tuned

  • @brandonacoustik It will be, soon. Check out the FT86 concept, will be here in 2012

  • So much understeeeer

  • hahhaha so sick! hes just as fast at drift cornering as he is with regular cornering. goodness!!!

  • Type R is stock, AE86 is tuned by TRD, not to mention the driver lol

  • Holy shit that 86 is so close to EK's ass

  • clean ass ek

  • damn KT's footwork is just amazing

  • どっひゃー(°∇°;)

    マンダムですな( ´艸`)

  • Toyota really needs to "Recapture the magic" of this old classic. They have the whole Scion lineup aimed at the youth market, but not one single RWD among them. If a Japanese company came out with a relatively cheap RWD no-frills but nicely powered/built car they would strike gold in the youth market. Instead, all the good stuff from Japan these days is too expensive for your average guy. A good handling somewhat powerful, light RWD 4 Cylinder from Japan? YES PLEASE!

  • @nightmathzombieethan i agree we do need another rwd cheap car the new 86 is coming to america eventually but odds are it wont be too cheap and it also is subaru powered and i guess im ok with that as long as its a toyota drivetrain cause everyone know subaru makes glass trannys

  • @SR204G637MGTE they wouldn't even have to go to Subaru to get a good 4 Cyl. They already make the 2zz-ge, a good little 1.8L. One of my friends has a Matrix with one in it and he tested @180 on the dyno (At the wheels). Throw one of those in a 2500 LB car and you've got the start of a decent little sports car, throw in a turbo & some tuning and you've got a winner! It just bugs me that now they're making some kick ass engines, they don't want to make sports cars anymore, not even a Supra?! :-(

  • @nightmathzombieethan Toyota FT-86 II

  • @Sptsmn700 I'll keep my fingers crossed! It's not like they have to start from scratch, they can raid the parts bin for most of the running gear. The little 1.8 liter they're using in everything these days is pretty ballsy, I have a friend with a 1.8L Matrix with just a Cold air intake, hi flow exhaust and headers (All CA smog legal) and he dyno'd the thing @ 180 Hp @ the wheels, I was pretty shocked.... that's an impressive little engine! I'll have to check that FT86 out, thanks!

  • @nightmathzombieethan yea no problem, the ft86 is supposed to get the subaru 2.0 boxer with 170hp.

  • @nightmathzombieethan i hope the didt come out...

my city is enough full of crazy noobs that cant drive... imagine what will happen with a cheap rwd.... fatality.

rwd is unsafe for city speed driving.

  • @Nitroboss2007 LOL I see your point, but I think most idiots who think they can drive (cause they watch too much fast and the furious/initial d), will crash no matter if it's FWD or RWD! I really think you need to learn to drive in the country before you can drive in the city. Sure, dodging traffic is more challenging, in a sense, but you'll never learn to drive "at the limit" & how to "recover" if you're driving on city streets. FWD IS much safer (much more intuitive) for noobs though, I agree.

  • @nightmathzombieethan Totally agree wit u, hopefully this scion fr-s thing can bring it.

  • @nightmathzombieethan Toyota ft-86. Coming soon hopefully.

  • @kickapooCam Well Here In The U.S Market Its The Scion FR-S =)

  • @nightmathzombieethan The FT-86 (or Scion FRS) is coming out next year. Look up the spy videos and pictures from motor shows. We can soon rejoice in a new Hachi Roku.

  • @Rogers1977 :-) I saw an article on it in a car magazine recently (motor trend? road and track? I can't remember) and I just got a big stupid grin on my face! It's about damn time! What a gorgeous car, and a great spiritual sucessor to the hachi roku. The 86 is dead, long live the 86! LOL

  • That EK9 Would Probally go faster with a better driver.

  • The real reason the AE86 won is cause it's got a much better power to weight ratio. It only weighs 970kg. Tsuchiya screws up at the start and still has no problems catching up in a straight line.

  • @sodazman hi man. dont u think toyotas 20 valve blacktop motor in the AE-111 corolla is better than a Vtec b16A stock for stock? cos the toyota only has vvti not valve lift control like vtec, and it still comes close in power output and quarter mile runs.

  • @signeduplate The black top 4A-GE and Honda's Gen 2 B16A have similar outputs but the blacktop is a lot more highly strung and has ITB's stock for better response. I think the blacktop is a superior motor in this case. VVTI in fact works very similar to VTEC and they are just designed to optimise economy and broaden the powerband. When it comes to quarter mile times, a lot more factors come in to play than just raw engine output.

  • @signeduplate VVTI and VTEC are almost the samething. all that changes is the name.

  • @signeduplate VVTI and VTEC are almost the samething. all that changes is the name. just like there's MIVEC for Mitsubishi, VENOS for BMW, etc

  • @platinumEK hi, but toyota has vvtLi(2zz-ge) which has lift cams, similar to VTEC. but vvti is not the same as vtec...cos even my 2004 1.8 1zz-fe corrolla sedan has vvti....and it will defn loose to a B16A!... Ive seen slightly modded 4age20v's take out golf 5 gtis!

  • Of course the AE86 won. It's RWD. Those silly fwd hondas are not even sports cars. Inferior front wheel drive cars take the fun out of driving and sounds like honduh rice. Yuck

  • Let's see how a stock Sprinter Trueno GT Apex or GTV goes against a Civic Type R 98-spec... or better yet, an EF9, that'd be a battle to watch!

  • @apexdna Don't Underestimate the AE86 Dude.

  • @Zhu8 Why would I? I like 'em just the same. I would just like to see a battle stock for stock.

  • @apexdna Stock for stock, the AE86 Makes 100HP, the EK9 makes 185.

  • @Zhu8 the teh AE86 is not stock. and the stock ae86 had 130 ps not 100 hp. too much about the corolla GTS. Tsuchiya's AE86 has 170 PS

  • first of all the ae86 is lighter and has a better power to weight and it's backwheel drive.. so it's clear whos was gonna win

  • i am more than aware of what that drive was doing as how i do the same. this has no effect on the ff being as fast as a fr with a ff specialist. and a fr has the problem of wanting to go sideways around a corner which eats up time.i am plenty aware of what ff fr mr rr and awd all do as how i have been in racing since i was 8 years old. all car set ups become equal with the specialist of that drive tran if power to weight ratio is close enough to each other.

  • KT's is 175PS, modded.

  • lol bad race.... my friend gust gave me his 86 lmao...it was a gst 2 lol

  • FUCK!!!!!!!! that ae86 looks bad ass

  • @popdancebeats are you high? no fwd car will EVER stand up to a rwd car when you hit the turns... maybe... juuuuust maybe if it was all strait aways... but throw in turns and theres no longer a contest

  • @ScottyRHS08 lol your wrong there, if you have a driver that specialises in ff cars like i do than a ff is just as fast as a fr

  • @jinxplyr Physically speaking the FWD car has it's limitations. The responsibility of turning, accelerating are solely taken up by the front tires, as well as the majority of the braking. FWD eats the traction available at the front tires. The driver in the vid was left foot braking/heavy trail braking in order to fight off the understeer by putting more weight over the front tires. RWD splits the responsibilities, front now strictly for turning, rear for applying drive. More traction.

  • @ScottyRHS08 all depends on the event and the setup for the car....FWD cars do really well in autocross events in particular, and that is nothing BUT turns....when it comes to motorsport your car is only as fast as the money you put into it...and the time spent tuning it......and the driver.....but I would still have to agree that FWD in particular has its limit when compared to higher hp RWD and AWD cars

  • Man I would go mad to be tailgated like that =S

  • 86 is king.... no contest.... though for the life of me i cant see why a FWD would EVER challenge an RWD car on this kinda racing, or even touge... lulz @ honda owners

  • if ek9 was tuned it would be a fair battle

  • "won't understeer at all" typical ignorant ricer comment, you can't change basic characteristic of FWD no matter how much suspension tuning you do. The fact is sure he may have been pressured by tsuchiya but it doesn't change how physics works with FWD.

you wanna take a corner in a FWD without understeer? how about you coast through it then?

    LOLL!!

ps. Do you even know why he is braking with left foot during corners? if you don't i suggest u GOOGLE it.

  • LOL...i love how you can call a pro an amateur. Im sure you have hundreds of track time under your belt.

  • Comment removed

  • haha i love it how after he passes he ek9 he starts bustin out some drift moves lol

  • Yes.. well, drift technique was actually made not to be overtaken in corners, your car blocks all the road so who is behind doesn't have room :)

  • won't work on race track

  • how would a FF corolla with a ST 4age compare to a ek9?

  • it reminds of the battle between takumi's ae86 and Tomoyuki Tachi civic type r in initial d

  • Passed 'em, played with 'em, and still had time to put a gap! Lol!

  • AE86 is not stock

  • @heinrichranches123 and the civic is over a decade younger

  • That AE86 was nasty. Good driving by him. The guy in the EK9 was kinda slackin on the driving skills compared to his rival. I thought the EK would pull on the 86, but I was wrong. Good battle non-the-less. I wonder why I never see any EF's...

  • damm i thought the hachiroku would lose this battle because lack of power. and why is the guy in the ek9 turning wide outside of the exit of the corner?

  • @flamerzbangout - have you ever driven a front driver and tried to corner under power... the car will push wide even with a LSD...

  • no i have never driven a FF LAYOUT car how is it?

  • omg dude....the FF layout car is famous for its understeering...FF understeers, FR oversteers

  • no dude ur wrong....the reason why the EK9 is turning wide outside is because of its understeering...FF cars tend to understeer because they have so much grip on the road

  • no... I'm not wrong. Understeering or "pushing wide" as I call it, is because of the loss of grip not because there's so much of it. If the car gripped well, it would tuck in and turn the corner sharply. The tires on any car can only do so much, and on FF cars the tires have to both steer the car and power the car forward, when this happens in a turn, the car understeers as you say. The more power you apply, the more the car understeers when coming out of a corner-why FFs are slow at corner exit

  • but i read this book of a professional author...he said that professional FF car drivers enter corners slow and exit fast...while FR car drivers enter corners fast and exit slow but its also why FF cars are slow...for eg...the AE86 enter the corner at 160 but exit at 130 and the EK9 enter at 110 and exit at 130...since they both exit at the same speed but the 86 delayed its braking point so its enter into a corner is fast which also resulting in the FR car being faster than the FF cars

  • yeah... you're right, I made a mistake there. they are considered faster at corner exit because you can step on the gas more... they will just push wide. FRs are slower @ exit because if you step on the gas too early, the rear will break loose. I meant to say fast at corner exit... just a typo... =)

  • the guy who is driving the 86 is keiichi tsuchiya, the drift king...but winning doesnt always depend on the performance but infact the braking and the accelerating points

  • 土屋最高!

  • AE86 owned !

  • Civic driver*

  • its the driver... Look at him in the corners. He is constantly going wide on exit. If not, he is going using the whole track and going to the middle at exit. His cornering speeds aren't as good as Tsuchiya's. And no, acceleration wise, the Civic should win out. FFs have the engine near the driving wheels, which doesn't require a shaft to the back. Civic has an advantage here, and drifting isn't as fast as gripping. So, the AE86 is still at a disadvantage. The Civic just isn't as good.

  • lol this has little to do with the driver your witnessing the difference between FWD and RWD.

FWD cant enter corners as fast without understeering. The driver was using left foot braking to try to tighten the line and bring more speed into the turn.

Watch the race again you'll see that thats where the civic was losing ground, at the corner exits.

Straightline the civic is the faster car.

Also, that isnt a stock AE86. It sounds like it has a modified Black top or some badass double carbs

  • if you can still find an ae86 with this kind of setup and quality. the ek is easy the ae86 is hard to find even with money to spare

  • Are they stock? If not, I'll buy a AE86.

  • The AE86 isnt stock. It sounds like it has a 4AGE black top, running velocity stacks, and header.

It doesnt sound like the stock 3TC motor from the 80s.

It could be a 3TC with double webber carbs but it sounds more like a 4age

  • when did a 3tc come in an ae86

  • ok fwd have better grip but rwd can drift at corner easily guess its fair there @@

  • LOL!!! so funny readin ur guys comments. both r Pro. drivers and by the way AE86 is 20 plus yr old car, its Amazing how its still keepin up wit the knew'r cars these days.

  • its a 20 year old underpowered car.

they only have 130 horsepower, but like the great Tsuchiya said, horsepower has nothing to do with the touge

  • not to mentioned it 130 CRANK hp... very underpowered but a nimble car with awesome power/weight ratio

  • @retardoncrack123 130 to the crank

  • @retardoncrack123 Actually his TRD is putting out about 150HP. Its very slightly tuned

  • @VortexProducer Nope, I've heard 170

  • @retardoncrack123 this ae86 has 170+

  • i would have liked to see the EK9 win. why? look at my name. there are a few reasons why it lost the race. maybe the AE86's RWD gave the front wheels more traction in the corners, could have been a bit lighter, could have been the driver's.

either way, it's a great race, and if i had an EK9, i no i wouldn't mind losing to an AE86 driven by Tsuchiya. :)

  • dam he can drive

  • a classic battle.. reminds me of something..

  • the Type R is very fast but the AE86 drivetrain works faster than the Type R plus the T R has way less HP than the AE86 and the DK has been raceing in that track many times so he has more experience on it

  • wrong on the hp the ae86 has 25 less hp then the type r

  • I think this AE86 has about 165-175whp, I don't remember exactly, but it's not stock.

  • less or more hp the ae86 has more advantage than the type r cus is a fr vs ff this why the ae is faster than the t r even if they both were stock engines anyways i prefer the ae86 its a classic jdm

  • BUT, if the TR had the same performance upgrades that this 86 has, it would be a much closer race.

  • wow amazing

  • Amazing heal-toe

  • It's not fair if the civic was not a tuned car.

  • Ugh, it has more power, more torque, a higher redline, and it's a factory tuned car, a type R.

  • the civic was tuned. it was pushing around 220hp

  • that 86 sounds nice.

  • ITB ^^

  • that AE86 is a fucking legend :| i wish i had that one xD

  • tru tru.

but i'd take a spoon K20 civic any day

  • @TiagoVeiga1 i just got one

  • @bob1sded Take care of it and never sell it, when I get a job etc after college, I'll pay gladly 5000€ for one.

  • @bob1sded i take care of that thing like it was my kid and ill never sell it im glad that theres some one that loves cars as much as i do

  • fuck yeah. that's Keiichi Tsuchiya driving the AE

  • because its his personal car

  • it's a custom car isn't it? but is it a same power? and is it the EK9 a toyota to?

  • lol ek9 is a honda civic

  • hahaha!!!!

  • use google before you post

    lol idiot

  • Awsome!

  • agree with Str8Ghostin!

  • no1 can match the whining skills of civic owners ;)

  • shame on vtec

  • It doesn't matter what anyone says, AFTERMARKET parts are always better than stock as they make no comprimise. Gauranteeed the AE86 has alot stifer suspension and has been tuned from the ground up to be a track car, not to be somewhat liveable on the street.

  • The civic is FF. Ae86 is FR. Is it really any wonder why the cvic lost?

  • FF and FR cars are fast and slow in different sections.

  • FF is slower then FR on straights. Did you see that guy getting aggravated moving his body back and forth signifying that the car wasn't moving that fast? Also, I'm pretty sure that the general consensus among the racing community (and physics for that matter) that FR is better for a sports/race car. I have driven FF and it's stable but when actually pushing it, it's obvious that FR is better. Also FF cars usually have to have more power then FR counterparts to keep up.

  • That's not necessarily true. FF cars can keep up with both FR and AWD cars. It all depends on the driver and the performance level of each vehicle.

Every type of vehicle is both advantageous and disadvantageous in different situations, it all depends on the driver when it's relatively matched.

  • lol its called stock type r? lol seriously! thats ae86 has a fully built motor! sure it at ITB's to boot... lol i would like to see the same type of build for both then see the real outcome!
