Why are folks so concerned about whether a child is "forced?" What do you mean by forced? Threatened with a whip? I seriously doubt ANY parents who have a child this successful use such means, which destroy the spirit. Do we not "force" children to go to school? Oh, that's Ok because the government chooses it for us. May parents force their children to brush their teeth, wash their hands, or do anything good for themselves that they lack the competence to choose to do for themselves?
@iamvalwong Heh, heh. Peculiar comment! I think she'll have the opportunity to do that when she comes of age and is making her first world tours. I only hope I can get tickets. Rachel has been an inspiration to my little girl and family now for a couple years.
@ HookedNose: Personally I don't like to argue with anyone but now I think I have to say something to you. As a musical student, I do agree that most people enjoy works from those European composers. But now, you know, most of them play instruments like piano or violin which these pieces of music fit in.
You do know the Chinese erhu, or the Japanese koto, right? For people who play traditional eastern instruments like that, they'd think the traditional Asian folk songs would work better on those instruments. Totally we can't deny that most people favour works from european composers, but the reason is just the different points of view from people who play different musical instruments, NOT because asians or whatever races are not as talent as europeans. People from diff. races have diff.talents
And for the player's name that you called an European name, do you mean that all the people who have western names would have to have big eyes and high noses like westerners? Well, personally I think I disagree. I guess you are definitely an European and don't know much about Chinese singers and film stars.
And most of them have English names which they picked themselves (or if some of them come from hongkong or macao then they might be given an english name along with a chinese name in their brith certificates). If you don't believe in what I said then simply search for Faye Wong or Fiona Fung on youtube or google. They DEFINITELY have the right to do that.
I am also an asian who have an english name. I'm half Vietnamese and half Japanese, and my English name is Hazel.

It is true that there are many gifted children who are able to play piano wonderfully. But, somewhat, I sense that Rachel's performance is unusually sincere. I think that is the kind of quality Rachel would like to keep and grow further. Her play is soft, direct, and with some underlying strength, which reminds me of Dinu Lipatti. I would strongly suggest her parents to nurture her with more of basic liberal arts; e.g, literature, philosophy, and culture.
@pantimospika No i dont think so, i heard her parents let her be independant. So she pushed herself to get this far :) And done a wonderful job too <33

@punkviolin1 hi, i wrote that years ago. i have a different opinion now. but dont blame me for getting a bit suspicious. you know as well as I do that there are a lot of cases where the parents push their children into something they don’t necessarily want to do. ;)
Somehow I get the impression Rachel's parents do not let her read the comments made on her videos--which is probably a good idea considering the lunatics out there. She is just a baby.
Excellent performance, Rachel! Don';t listen to hecklers and mean-spirited people (there'll be many) but just keep on and play with your heart, mind and soul. You're doing a great job and I'm proud of you.
amazing tone, wonderful colour, great tempo, pedaling is just perfect, the sense of direction to the end of the phrase is so full of energy. She really plays with passion! She's waaay younger than me, and yet she plays so much better. I'd like to say I'm jealous but I think i'm so impressed I can't be jealous. I recognize how much work that would have been. Bravo!
This is amazing... It made me cry. I feel so ashamed. Here I am, 10 years of playing the piano, and I still don't sound even half as amazing as Rachel! Keep playing, girl! You have talent! I wish I had time and the motivation like you.... *sigh* You're an amazing pianist! I applaud your amazing skill and dedication. Brava!!!!! Encore!!!
I usually don't comment on the comments other give, but seriously, HookedNose is ignorant and straight up racist.

she isnt a genius, shes a dedicates girl. Asians are dedicated i teach portuguese to a chinese girl and at first seems taht shes pretty clever but in fact she just studys hard and, in my opinon, the same happens with rachel. she only play it very well but if i could spend 5 hours per day i guess i'd be as good as her.
rachelxiu, have you ever played the piano? I guess not. Because if you practice for 5 hours everyday yes you could learn that piece, but if you dont have the gift in you since you were born, you would never be able to play it like her.
You have inspired to learn this piece myself (I have been playing for 6 years and I can't do anything like that!!)! How long dod it take you to learn this piece?
VERY beautiful! Amazing how well you can play piano hun! Would you happen to be able to play chopin etude op. 10 no. 12? Would love to hear from someone as amazingly talented as you, TY for keeping the classics alive...
I agree! This girl is obviously a child prodigy! It's sad how most of the population of the world has put music aside, but it makes me very happy that a few still enjoy the wonders that music unfolds, especially for a little girl like this one. You are magnificent, sweetie!! Keep it up!
Hahahah a prodigy? Did it ever occur to you that a "prodigy" doesn't just copy the works of someone else. The term for that would be "plagiarist". A real prodigy creates a work of art. A player piano can play Chopin's Waltz perfectly every time but could never create that work. I'm astounded at the lack of logic presented in this forum but I suppose that if you were honest with yourself, it would break your collective hearts.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I guess we have different standards for what constitutes a wonder. You can find tens of thousands of "prodigies" on youtube by your definition, which isn't all that extraordinary. As I mentioned before, a player piano or even a 50 dollar kids keyboard can perform Chopin's Waltz flawlessly. I am amused at the lack of creativity shown by the posters here in insulting me. If they spent a fraction of time reviewing the points of debate, rather than hurling an insults they'd appear less foolish.
I agree and disagree. I understand where you come from, because the terms "genius" and "prodigy" are thrown around too much these days. However, if a prodigy is someone that is "extraordinary," and extraordinary is "going beyond normal," I'd call little Rachel here a prodigy.
PS - While you're telling people to read Strunk and White, review your last sentence and then get back to me on grammar. Unless you meant for "insult" to be singular. In that case, proofread. Oh, and use a comma.
HookedNose'd nazi is obviously on youtube to look for debates so he can go sleep at night. But what you don't know, is that he's ASIAN!!!! ~.~ Too bad he's so naive about the world and thinks the shit he talks about is true when half of them can't be proved.
Ha, the typical Tube geek who pokes out at peoples incorrect grammar and punctuation. Never heard of online slang have you? You must be pretty f'ing stupid if you seriuosly think the asian race has no famous composers that "EVERYONE" knows about. Im sure you would know "EVERYONE" as well since you just sit at the computer all day stalking this girls video comments.
Only an ignorant with no sense of beauty and art can say that about Mishima, a real genius that all well read people know. You even ignore his existence! This argument is absolutely useless: be happy with your stupid racist opinions and don't bother us.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Hello there hamilton. Learn to speak proper English: spell correctly, use punctuation, and use logic and facts to construct your arguments, and then perhaps you'll be taken seriously. Facts don't spew venom. They simply exist. Chinksters love Euro music because they have created little that comes close to the great Euro composers. It's sad that one of Euro heritage like yourself would deny the obvious: Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Bach, Handel, Wagner, etc were great and no Asians compare.
Another nice ad-hominem (attack the messenger) type reply that adds little substance to the conversation. Obviously Rachel is a biblical name that was taken up by European Christians. How many little squinty eyed girls do you know named Sarah or Christie? Only ones that have moved to Europe or North America and disavowed their chinkster heritage. Conversely, how many young white girls on youtube are named Rong-Duck Dong and play Sitars? None, because euro music and heritage is more evolved.
everything was perfectly balanced.your pedal, often tricky on waltzes, your sound colourings,everything.5 stars.
as for all thes people that can't stand the idea of an asian kid playing way better that their beloved white european kids, who can't tell the difference between beethoven and chopin, please just die somewhere else.greetings for greece
People post rude comments because they are jealous. Well done rachel.. Keep it up.. You'll be in one of the top music industries one day. All the best!! (=
Can you name at least one white "Aryan" youth who's aspiring to anything other than tongue pins, lip rings, tattoos, excessive flab, and ADHD medication?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yes I can. Would you like me to? Youtube is filled with them. Now please name a single Asian composer that anybody has heard of. Chopin? Beethoven? Mozart? Brahms? Handel? Wagner? Haydn? Too bad for you multicultural types. They're all white European men. No darkys, no mexicans, no women, no khazarian jews, no asians, no indians, no diversity. Just white geniouses.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's nice that Asians have learned how to play our music. Maybe someday they'll evolve enough to write music that others will want to play. Have to hand it to them though, compared to Africans who are lucky to be able to make funny noises to a beat, these Asians sure can copy our European music well. Funny thing that their parents force them to copy European traditions at such a young age while Aryans kids are playing with Chinese made toys.
I didn't think anyone could come off THAT racist in a single paragraph, but you proved me wrong. I checked with the ushers...you left your Hitler doll in the aisle, next to your KKK hood.
I was looking for a glimmer of refutation to the facts that I presented but no. Simple ad hominem attacks. Typical left-wing (although with neo-con jews it could also now be called right wing) propaganda. Could you name a couple Korean composers that all young kids aspire to? How about famous Chinese composers that every kid wants to emulate? No? How about genious African musical prodigies and please don't compare 50 cent or P-diddy or t-baby who can't even spell out a full name to Mozart.
You cant give a direct answer to that question, because Mozart & Co. refer to European classic music. The world was not that close back then in these times, but Asia have their own "classic" music. Its not that they did not compose any music...
They also have talented artists who combine European classic and music of their own style, eg Misato Mochizuki (jp), Jamilia Jazylbekova (kaz), Alireza Mashayeka (iran), Malaye KeeYong Chong (malaysia), Suren Soronzonbold (mongolia), Leilei Tian (chn)

Exactly, they attempt to mimic Euro music because they have never been creative. They always mimic Euro's and then use zombie robotics to mimic us. Take Japanese cars, Chinese widgets, Taiwanese electronics...they mimic very well, but rarely create something out of nothing like euros. Where are the original Korean trumpets, clarinets, tubas, saxophones, xylophones, snare drums, guitars, violins? They always combine some inferior instrument with a euro one and call it theirs...how pathetic.
You are racist and ignorant. If you read books, you would know that, for example, Mishima, a japanese, was one of the best writers in the world and extremely creative. And we can find other examples in every field.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Wow, i'm racist AND ignorant. Nice ad hominem attacks. Those jew newspeak adjectives don't affect me. I along with most of the world have never heard of Mishima, likely because he sucked. I have heard of George Orwell, Henry Ford, James Watson, Charles Darwin, Nietzsche, George Lincoln Rockwell, Charles Lindbergh, and William Luther Pierce. Go read some real works of art and science and call me when you wake up from your zombie state. Nurse, send in the next brainwashed zombie.
This is great you can play these level of songs at such a young age! This song is so familiar to me I think there is this song in a movie or something!
hamiltonrrw: Please, my friend, I know what a Waltz is. But, in fact, Chopin never intended his Waltzes to be danced to. Would you waltz at the sound of his 1st Waltz? They are "salon" pieces not ballroom compositions!
Hahah, they even gave her a European name. I wonder if they'll give her that surgery that removes the squinty parts of her eyes. You can't make this stuff up.

1. a person, esp. a child or young person, having extraordinary talent or ability: a musical prodigy.
2. something wonderful or marvelous; a wonder.
rachel IS DEFINITELY A PRODIGY.
get your facts straight.

something to be a prodigy.

HookedNose 3 years ago
I agree and disagree. I understand where you come from, because the terms "genius" and "prodigy" are thrown around too much these days. However, if a prodigy is someone that is "extraordinary," and extraordinary is "going beyond normal," I'd call little Rachel here a prodigy.
PS - While you're telling people to read Strunk and White, review your last sentence and then get back to me on grammar. Unless you meant for "insult" to be singular. In that case, proofread. Oh, and use a comma.
CasetotheIzzo 3 years ago 4
HookedNose'd nazi is obviously on youtube to look for debates so he can go sleep at night. But what you don't know, is that he's ASIAN!!!! ~.~ Too bad he's so naive about the world and thinks the shit he talks about is true when half of them can't be proved.
jugementalbastard 2 years ago
Ha, the typical Tube geek who pokes out at peoples incorrect grammar and punctuation. Never heard of online slang have you? You must be pretty f'ing stupid if you seriuosly think the asian race has no famous composers that "EVERYONE" knows about. Im sure you would know "EVERYONE" as well since you just sit at the computer all day stalking this girls video comments.

Only an ignorant with no sense of beauty and art can say that about Mishima, a real genius that all well read people know. You even ignore his existence! This argument is absolutely useless: be happy with your stupid racist opinions and don't bother us.
alors24 3 years ago
Hey there Einstein, ignorant is an adjective not a noun. Go read Strunk and White's Elements of Style and call me in the morning...next one nurse.

Don't you mean, "the honesty of some people"? I indicated that she copied the European composer's song rather well for her age.

Can you name at least one white "Aryan" youth who's aspiring to anything other than tongue pins, lip rings, tattoos, excessive flab, and ADHD medication?

HookedNose 3 years ago
I didn't think anyone could come off THAT racist in a single paragraph, but you proved me wrong. I checked with the ushers...you left your Hitler doll in the aisle, next to your KKK hood.
XposedNerve 3 years ago 4
I was looking for a glimmer of refutation to the facts that I presented but no. Simple ad hominem attacks. Typical left-wing (although with neo-con jews it could also now be called right wing) propaganda. Could you name a couple Korean composers that all young kids aspire to? How about famous Chinese composers that every kid wants to emulate? No? How about genious African musical prodigies and please don't compare 50 cent or P-diddy or t-baby who can't even spell out a full name to Mozart.
HookedNose 3 years ago

HookedNose 3 years ago
You are racist and ignorant. If you read books, you would know that, for example, Mishima, a japanese, was one of the best writers in the world and extremely creative. And we can find other examples in every field.

Nurse, send in the next brainwashed zombie.

hamiltonrrw: Please, my friend, I know what a Waltz is. But, in fact, Chopin never intended his Waltzes to be danced to. Would you waltz at the sound of his 1st Waltz? They are "salon" pieces not ballroom compositions!
