When I came to Thailand the first time as a young GI, the SRT still had wood burning steam engines on short routes and hauling freight. About a year later they were all retired, just before OPEC ran the oil prices sky high. I've always wished I'd taken hundreds of photos of those lovely old steam engines in action, but I didn't expect them to disappear to soon. Both of my grandfathers were railroad men.
