@NYJets41 If it weren't for this there would be no MMBT. I'm sure even Dicky wouldn't share your opinion. But hey, at least you didn't say Justin Beiber is better or something, so your at least on the right track :)
Yes it should be The Wailers and The Skatalites..Clement Dodd at Studio One used The Skatalites as a studio band..this is the first wailers single..A friend of mine plays with The Skatalites now and also with Bob Marley in the past, they all shared each others musicians, quite a tight knit musical community,...Great tune for sure ;)
@chauncy817 it's actually kinda not, really. It's an oversight, but it's not that big of an oversight. There are a lot of people who are more fans of ska than they are of reggae, and vice versa. And they all like to say their side of the McBLT is the tastier and more important side, and everybody always wants to correct everybody and cloud the issue with facts that, while true, are often stacked together to try to make themselves appear more knowlegeable and therefore more "right"...
Respond to this video... ...but it really is not worth making this big of a stink about. It just is not. Yes, saying its a skatalites tune without mentioning the wailers is kind of ignoring the whole story, and maybe a little closed-minded. But being super offended by it and talking trash on the skatalites and trying to downplay their importance in the history of Jamaican music is just infighting, and its absurd. Chauncy, I'm not saying that's you, but I mean c'mon. Let's not do this.
brilliant. i cant believe all these people arguing on here . Ska is so great it makes me think of the flamingo the tiles the twenties the alphabet etc great times great clothes greta music , great dubbies. we had ska rock steady and reggae all good stop arguing and move and sing.
@octaviano1296 the backing band in this case is irrelevant, the original recording is credited to The Wailers, this is not a different version hence why the title needs to be amended, it is simply a ploy to get more views to the video by misrepresenting who the tune is by.

It's not an issue of people taking credit for something or stealing fame. It's just that the nature of the Wailers and the Skatalites were different...
@rearly62 ...especially depending on what iteration of either band you're talking about. The Skatalites were a studio and dance band. The Wailers were a vocal group that turned into a reggae band (by and by). In the early 60's, vocal groups often carried their own identity, but relied on instrumental bands to back them up. In this case, though, the team-up of the Skatalites, through the perspective of its day, was like having the best vocal group with the best band.
@Sactreats not at all, dont believe me? look it up "Music historians typically divide the history of ska into three periods: the original Jamaican scene of the 1960s (First Wave), the English 2 Tone ska revival of the late 1970s (Second Wave) and the third wave ska movement, which started in the 1980s (Third Wave) and rose to popularity in the US in the 1990s"
@baphomet1978 how does that prove that reggae is just slowed down ska? My point had nothing to do with the history of ska music. My point was that you can't just play a 1965 Dragonaries 45 at 33rpm and it suddenly sounds like reggae. Reggae and Ska have a close relationship, obviously. But it's not as simple as slowing it down and singing differently. The differences are much more subtle and sophisticated.
@Sactreats well the basic things are the same, the 3/4 beat, focus on the upbeat. one begat the other and then the other. its not the exact same thing, but they are extremely similar. thats why ska is called 2nd and 3rd wave reggae.
@baphomet1978 To be honest, ska is older than reggae, so it won't be 2nd or 3rd wave... In fact, ska laid the roots for rocksteady and that laid the roots voor reggae. So in fact reggae is third wave ska. And ska on its own comes from rythm and blues, which originated from a mixture of jazz, blues and gospel, which on their turn originated from the crossing of African tribal music with the western musical system. Not to be pedantic... ;-)

@XxXxFelipeXxXx01 that is ignorant, music will always progress in different directions, if ppl made music exactly like the music previous to them then music would never progress. Lets just agree that all ska music is ska music and its a good working class music of its times. along with oi!

@XxXxFelipeXxXx01 that is ignorant, music will always progress in different directions, if ppl made music exactly like the music previous to them then music would never progress. Lets just agree that all ska music is ska music and its a good working class music of its times. along with oi!
