She makes some weird claims about enzymes.. Why would the enzymes in the almonds matter if it was denatured or not? The stomach is going to denature it anyways.
mmmm that looks delicious!! i bet the milk tastes great with come sugar too. i can't wait to make it by myself, and eat it with oats! but almonds aren't cheap here in italy....
Isn't plastic wonderful! Acrylic, ABS, or other plastic rubberized blender containers, and oh, nylon strainer bags. Lets see, what else is made of nylon? Rather than get into it here, look it up, and perhaps think of some other natural materials to use.
Thanks. I love this stuff. Too bad almonds are getting expensive these days. I've been slipping the skins off as soaking them loosens them, without straining. But now I wonder if enzymes in the skins would be good to include.
Would I be able to buy almonds in bulk and keep them in the freezer till I'm ready to use them? My sons and I really like almond milk and it can get quite pricey buying it so I was just wondering.
Your almond mild receipe is terrific! Thankyou. I have a QUESTION... I ordered the nut bags from purejoyplanet. Can I use these same bags to make hemp milk, or do I need a special hemp bag for that ? thankyou again
Almonds(like most nuts)are Too Rich in Unsaturated Fats! PUFAs go rancid soo easly! Humans are warm blooded so we need fats that do not go rancid inside our system! Those fats are Saturated fats! Butter, Cream, Egg Yolk, Dripping, Coconut and Cacao Butter!! if u wanna understand more please check Ray Peat WebSite!! Saturated Fats Are Our Friends!!
does almond milk taste like cow milk? Cow milk is the best...but since i'm going more towards organic...i am going to give this almond milk a try...btw she seemed like she was squeezing a nutsack when she was draining it...how about using a regular strainer?
@iiablaze hey it tastes abit like rice milk, and rice milk tastes like cow milk...only with alittle sugar flavor so it might taste weird but you'll love the feeling and the healthiness of this!
@SuperMelon1 Hahaha! It's like The Movie, "Ghost" when Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore are working the pottery together, but this takes it to the next level. And, I too, am "relieved" (pardon the pun) to know that it's not just my mind or my eyes that are messed up.....or like you basically said, there is some sense of comfort in knowing we're not alone;)
Thank you for posting! I thought I had to get a special soy milk maker and use that to make almond milk. Now I know I can use my regular blender, so the only thing I need buy is a nut milk bag. Cool!
Btw, when I've made this before (when I had the fancy soy milk maker), I would soak the almonds first, then slip the skins off of them. Otherwise, I fould that there would be sediment in the milk. Removing the skins gives it a smoother flavor and lighter color, for those who prefer it.
2 questions: Will this almond milk foam correctly, just like regular milk when making cappuccino? And what happens if you don't use it within 4 days -- will it turn rancid, even in the fridge?
@hjones1 You can steam this for a cappuccino or latte, it foams nicely. It can go rancid within 4 days, you just have to smell or taste. But, I usually only make enough to last a few days - It's really yummy and moves quickly!
An important note for all: You cannot purchase truly raw (unpasteurized) almonds from grocers and health food stores. You may only purchase unpasteurized almonds direct from the farmers. The store varieties which are deceivingly labeled as "raw" are pasteurized as per FDA law passed in 2007. Pasteurized almonds cannot germinate and are essentially useless for any health benefits!!
I usually make at least one batch of almond milk each week since purchasing nut-milk bags at a raw food/health expo this past autumn. Your video truly shows just how easy it is . . . AND it tastes so much better than the great store brands. Awesome video! One question though: Did you say that after the inital 8 hour soaking that you rinse and soak an additional 6-8 hours? I soak 8 -10 hours and rinse and use right away. Did I understand that correctly?
@dkwahine Glad you enjoy the vid! Yes, just soak an initial 6-8 hours rinse and use. The longer they soak the sooner the milk will turn (it usually gets drunk way before that would happen in my house though!)
Does anyone have the exact amounts of water/almonds? My friend saw she uses half or so raw sunflower seeds to save on costs. I am not sure if I need to soak them also or just add later.
i've recently been transitioning to a vegetarian and soon to be hopefully vegan :). my question is i am also working on a diet and found that it's stated that almonds are high in fat. This is a silly question, but would drinking the almond milk daily (since i need milk some way!) impede in my efforts to lose weight on a normal healthy diet? I was just curious...I've been researching as much as I could and everyone has different opinions on the matter.
@TheMakeOrBreak It won't be a problem unless you drink a lot everyday. If you just use it in your coffee or drink a glass of it you won't have a problem. This is especially true since by moving to a vegan diet you will be removing a lot of fats that you would get from animal products. There are approx 40 calories and 3g of mono and polyunsaturated fats in 8 ounces of almond milk compared with 90 calories in fat free skim milk and whole milk has 150 calories/ 8 ounces. You'll be fine :)
I can't find nut milk bags anywhere where I am, and neither do I feel too easy with online shopping especially without a credit card. Besides I don't like having to touch the milk with my hands anyway, so I like to use a double strainer. It's actually just as, if not even better, than the nut bag I find.
What is the ratio of water to almonds? Also, does anyone just leave the pulp in their almond milk? Is there any time frame you would need to drink the milk in?
Thanks! Great video.

In terms of sweeteners, if I wished to use an Agave sweetener, is there a difference between Agave nectar and Agave syrup that I should bear in mind?
