I think this is Andre Agassi at his prime. His body moved so much more fluid at this time as compared to the latter part of his career. He seemed to create hit shots much easier. I
I also don't think the Federer-Nadal rivalry is better than Sampras-Agassi. For years the final score was too predictable - Federer won on grass and hard courts, Nadal on clay. Agassi-Sampras was more like - they each had chances to defeat their oponent on every surface. They were the same age btw while Federer is 5 years older than Nadal, that's not pretty fair, not to mention most of their matches where on clay.
The reasoning is sound, but the supporting facts are untrue. Federer's advantage in grass was not sizeable; he won his first match in 4 sets, his second match in 5, and lost his third. Nadal won their first hard court match, and nearly took the second. Most of Federer's hard court wins took place later in the season, when Nadal has historically tanked. Likewise, Federer has pushed Nadal to the wire on clay many times. Your supporting facts are wrong and as a result, your conclusion is misguided.
Although Nole and Murray may have beaten Rafa and Swiss quite regularly over past 3 years, come GS - it was JUST ONCE when Nole beat Federer. Its dissapointing GS competition-wise. Thatswhy Rafa -Federer rivalry looks more "important" or "thrilling".
Pete and Andre had much more competitive opponents who WERE NOT AFRAID to win GS. Pete-Andre matches, like 00 AO or 01 USO, were better.
The thing is Federer has never taken RG off Nadal by beating him:-) He would have never ever beat Rafa in RG. No way.
Anyway, the only reason why Rafa plays Federer in the finals much more often than Pete played Andre is that since 05 !!!! (except a couple of weeks when Murray took over no2 spot) you have had just 2 dominant players who can win multiple majors and have been no 1 and no 2.
whats the name of those nike tennis shoes that used to be white on the back and blue tip on the front with this scaley material? Also where can i get vintage agassi shorts like that?
yes! i wish courts these days were faster, and some slower, that way the unique form of tennis that would dominate a particular surface would ultimately prevail. rather than now trying to wipe out the differences between surfaces.. like..grass and the melbourne surface. lols. last yr mcenroe mentioned that the UCLA courts are faster than wimbledon!! haha
Of course, that's why it was a such a great rivalry, because any match, any time, either man could beat the other, and usually both brought out the best of each other in the process. Sampras had the better record for three reasons: 1-he was a better player (capable of playing all court tennis, instead of simply baseline) 2-Agassi brought the best out of him more often than vice versa 3-most of their meetings were on faster courts more suited to Sampras's style.
Agassi Sampras was a great rivalrt. But if Nadal stays fit i believe the Nadal Federer rivalry will be bigger. There is the potential for them to be the best 2 ever players to play the game, and to have them teeing off against each other in their prime is a gift.
There's a few things. Nadal owns the French, and Federer owns Wimbledon. Yet they have both gone into the others own back yard and taken that slam off each other. Nadal knocked Federer off top spot for some time and prolonged him breaking Petes record. Federer finally got the record and is now back on top. I can't wait to see which way it will go next.
Pete got the better of Andre, no doubt about it. The rivalry didn't have the same bite or history to it.
Not to take sides here, but what is being pointed out here, which you obviously didn't pick up on, is that there is nothing more special than two great American champions like Andre & Pete competing against each other: baseliner v. net rusher. You just don't see that today. Similar to McEnroe/Conners & Evert/Navratilova.

When Agassi was truly on he could punish Sampras. But nevertheless Sampras had the better winning record. The Aust hardcourts suited agassi of course

Sampras is the best tennis player I have ever seen, and this rivalry was fantastic.
The Federer-Nadal rivalry is great too, however I hope people don't forget just how good Sampras vs Agassi was.

Nothing more special than two great American champions....unless of course you are not American.
Their different game styles definitely adds to it though, your right on that one.
