Speaking of food, I have a very acute sense of smell and taste. Sometimes I can tell if something is spoiled, but others will say it's OK. I refuse to eat it. Also speaking of food, I recently completed as 30day juice fast & found that I felt better than I felt in my life. Also figured out that If I cut gluten from my diet (I am now vegan and gluten-free), I feel a lot less "foggy" & my meltdown are less frequent/severe. No, it's not easy to eat gluten free, but it's worth it! Yes I am AS.
I can't eat "creamed" food.. Creamed corn, creamed spinach, cream of mushroom soup.. I literally gag DX It's just SOO disgusting! The slimy thing.. I cannot eat slime x_x I'm huge on textures or food (and objects) and I HATE when people try to put nuts/raisins/other harder things in anything.
I hate cooked carrots. I just think it tastes so bad. I also don't like spicy food cause it burns my mouth and why would I enjoy something that's painful to my mouth? So yeah, cooked carrots and spicy food. Oh and I HATE the smell of Indian food...
For me personally. I hated grits (I would eat it if it was served to me but not voluntarily), cream of wheat (out of the question) or anything with a white porridge like sustenance. I also hate milk (I'll drink it if it is served to me) and I don't eat it with cereal. And my ultimate worst food any type of mayonnaisse sandwich (bolongna sandwiches are the worst). I will throw these foods up if I eat them.
I hate onions, goat cheese, goat butter, AND I EXTREMELY HATE scallop potatoes. But, my parents love those things and pretty much serve one of them every week :P
I hated roast beef when i was a kid i would have to set there and chew and chew and CHEW on it and i really hated the texture of it. I didn't really get desert but i was told if i didn't finish my plate i would have to set there till i did lol
My mom would make her meatloaf with diced viggies hidden in it. maybe thats why you resised it. :) just a thought. Instead of just getting a sad face over dinner I would cry. My parents were also the "eat whats on the table" kinda parents but they also would make me sit there till I finished most of it. If you ask my thats a modern day torture for aspies. and what can do do about your hair, lol, get a trim, it woulnt fall in your eyes, duh!! lol :)
Bananas are awful. The texture, the smell; the taste. Ew. And I dislike foods that I see as being somehow 'wrong'. Like blue raspberry popsicles really bother me. And meatloaf, because meat has and should have to relation to any sort of loaf.
My son is 9 and has AS. I'm still trying to figure out why he picks at his food. Always picks at it and some stuff that he USED to be ok with he will refuse to eat. He does NOT like spaghetti. He just can't stand it. But he picks at most of the foods I prepare for him and talks through the entire meal about how great he's doing on his Tony Hawk video game or whatever. He's been better about eating lately but still he picks at most stuff. What does that mean?
Anything that swims i wont eat! i had alligator a way many years ago cause my mother tricked me into it and i went in denial (it wasnt alligator shes proably kidding!) and screamed for hours "ill nevr trust u again how can u lie to me!!"
Much to my mother's dismay, I was a very picky eater. I had a hard time eating lots of foods. Fish smelled and tasted like the smell coming from the bottom of ash trays and trash cans. Didn't like fried eggs either. I don't remember what it was I was supposed to eat this one night, but I DO remember gagging on something that my mother forced me to eat, threatening to make me eat it again if I threw up. I gagged while eating and cried all the way to bed that night. :(
I can NOT eat anything that even hints at tasting like pineapple... don't know why but even the thought just disgusts me. After watching this video I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my Aspergers.
I'm not sure if I have AS but as a child when offered something I didn't want to try or going to my room, I'd always settle for no food in my room. If it smelled bad or appeared awful, there was no way I was putting it in my mouth.
I can remember a family gathering where I was told to try some dry ass turkey. I warned them all I would likely puke it up if I was forced to eat it. Despite the warning they assured me I would not (as if they knew my fucking senses better than me).
OMG. So funny ! My son has a food thing. For the longest time he could not do pudding, ice cream and soup. If I dare gave it to him. He got sick . ALL OVER THE PLACE ! Thanks for doing these videos. My son is 11. I am using his account so I can write you. You made him feel like he is not the only person with Asperger's . Thanks. This is his account. he loves YouTube.
What's the deal with Meatloaf? My AS son will vomit if I even mention making it. But it seems to be a texture thing for him - Anything made with hamburger or looks (feels) like ground hamburger meat - including ground turkey, chicken, and sausage. What child has NEVER eaten a McDonald's hamburger? That child is mine.....
Tomatoes have such a texture and smell that I cannot eat them. Ketchup is okay but fresh tomatoes, never! I also have a problem with some food touching the other food on my plate, e.g. salad dressing ending up near the potatoes. I once lived 6 months on oat meal. Nice food, consistent texture and color.
I've never liked onions and/or peppers... something just really turns me off about them. Maybe it's their texture. Fetticine I've never liked... my parents forced me to eat it one night, and I ended up spitting it up right at the dinner table. I've never liked ham, but I used to like pork chops when I was little, but I don't like them as an adult. Whenever my parents would order pizza or burgers I'd pick out all the onions and/or peppers... they couldn't get that I just didn't like them.
I couldn't handle a lot of physical sensations in foods or drinks. As a kid, I was often given soft drink if I was thirsty and the bubbles in any sort of carbonated drink felt like little explosions of acid throughout my mouth so I would sit there for literally hours stirring my lemonade with a fork or straw to try to get rid of them...
Other things were pepper and onion would burn like hell (try finding a hot food without a pinch of pepper...) and I just hated the taste and texture of tomato.
For some reason I don't like foods that have green in it. I think it's because my mother doesn't like it so I told myself I wouldn't like it either. I think that's my aspergers.
CORN and PEAS!!!! Ever having to eat these is cruel and unusual punishment for me. small little crunchy things that have a slightly fleshy feel to them make me barf. Probably because they have the texture of insects. Peas are also annoying because they are so little and they have to be eaten with a fork or spoon. OH, THE HUMANITY!!!!!
I totally totally follow you here... meatloaf was definitely one of those but my worst enemy was quiche. Same principle as meatloaf but slimier. And my mom was the kind of person who cooked and if you didn't like it, well suck it up, deal with it, and by the way, you MUST compliment the chef... if you don't you get yelled at until you do. And when you do, that just prompts her to make more. But yeah, totally with you there. *shudder* food...
Not only the taste but thes smell, certain foods I can't go near without getting that light head feeling. I also don't like the soft feel of cooked fruits or vegis but yet I like them plain. I also can't go near Meatloaf. I'm currently really into crab at the moment.
I don't eat meat. I always hated it. I don't like the stringy crap, random hard things, odd and texture, and mouth feel of animals as food. I like to eat the same foods because at least I always know what I am getting. I don't really get bored by eating the same food as long as I like it. I eat black pepper by itself by the tablespoon, I just like it.
Meatloaf is disgusting. I don't get how people eat it, especially people that like the sandwiches, the idea of it on bread is repugnant.
Yeah, as a kid I hated cottage cheese. I still do. Whenever I think of it, it makes me gag. I remember my parents giving me crap for disregarding it. It has nothing to do with my AS. Don't get me wrong, I love other kinds of cheeses.
I hate pickles! I will almost have an asperger meltdown if they come near me. my brother figured it out when we were little and used to chase me with them.
I don't lik sandwhiches, because I don't like my food touching either. I don't like ketchup, mustard, maynoise, all that is disgusting to me. I can't even eat a $5 foot long! :(
I love cheese - it use to make me feel strange: I definitely did get more dreams, and I had mild pseudo-hallucinations. From my early teens I had a food fad where I put mint-sauce on almost every savoury dish I had - which I would mash-up of course before consuming. I remember gagging at vegetables (parents tried to make me eat) ... and I hated the texture of mushrooms though now I think they're delicious. My neice is much more fussy that I was. I go through these transient stages where I only like the taste of orange foods. Carrots, orange juice, cheese curls, etc.

Not sure if I have aspergers though. Seems like it in some ways.
