  • Just saw him at Matakana NYE with Dragon and Jimmy Barnes.... many years older, a few kilos heavier, but OMG a FANTASTIC entertainer. LOVED it!!! He was *almost* better than Barnes... There... I said it!!!

  • Poor Graham. He's well and truly fucked up from the drugs now, but still love this song.

  • gotta love songs about shooting up

  • Graham is a Marxist, there was a write up on their web site

    Long Live Marxism

  • Not too sure about the the colour of the glass in the lights etc but I do know it was whiz inside not smack. You don't "go out dancing" on smack. You are usually curled up on the sofa !!

  • this is the shizall nz rocks

  • these dudes came to my collage and did an after school gig it was awesome way back in 1978...

  • shes a vampire in the night

  • great song

  • is it just me or dose he sound a bit english

  • great song . need more of it in todays world

  • @werewolves7 Just listen to the Datsun's - New Zealands best band.

  • fuck yeah love kiwi rock from late 70s to mid 80s wish i was old enough to have seen em in concert in the heyday

  • Shameful history of NZ rock - atrocious recordings, tepid posey TVNZ-style videos and horrid HORRID (or no) production, but spectacularly gutsy and visceral live performances. God damn you Brazenbeam for leaving a bigger impression on my head in person than on the world stage via media!! Most fun I've had: opening for the Legies in Hamilton - total fuckin riot.

    cher doy!

    Rohan Hunt, Philadelphia

  • This reminds me of the good old New Zealand 80's :) with the beers and stubbies, jandals, moes, playing cricket in the yard, L&P, Watties Tomato Sauce and sausages :)

  • @mikimousexoxo Surely and half decent kiwi household still does this today or is just my family at Christmas?

  • @grievoushark Yeah true. But you mainly see this happen at Christmas, when it actually IS sunny.

  • a "blue lady" is a glass syringe, and he is talking about drug addiction, listen to the lyrics my blue lady is vicious like a shark, shes a vampire in the night, going to need an exorcist to help me after dark....... obviously refering to a come down

  • Beautiful song! Such a classic!!!

  • Love the track, but you guys should know that the "Blue lady" was a hyperdermic syringe which was electric blue, made of glass and of course full of heroin. Hello Sailor became a casualty of her kiss-the rest is NZ musical history!!

  • I want this there albums!

  • you're all wrong, he's talking about a vampire granny with hypothermia actually.

  • blue lady does mean junkies its a needle i know that for a fact.Thats what they called it back in the day

  • no no it's not that .

Graham has stated on NZ tv he was talking about a syringe, the "Blue Lady". Were they shooting up, who knows, but that is what it means (no lie)

He also is a life long suporter of Marxism

  • @Guevaristas that "is" the truth, he said that's what Blue Lady means. He stated this on C4

  • a "blue lady" is an expert in the techniques found in a "blue video"

  • classic!

  • Ah yeah, one of the best of the era, I grew up in Christchurch in the 70's and 80's and didnt even konw what a Blie Lady was until recently ...good thing really lol

  • Geoff, you put yourself into all sorts of danger...I'm sure you must have encountered a few owners of blue ladies at least... :)

  • Haha that would be telling, encountered it, seen it many times , nothing to get phased about, .... hmm, u must kno me from somewhere lol

  • Real good, but can't say its absolutely the best NZ had to offer from that era. The Exponents and Dragon right up there

  • he's talking about a blue syringe, he said so in an interview

  • perhaps the greatest kiwi rock song. Hard to beat this one.

  • It's all a matter of opinion, but I think that Dragon's Are You Old Enough has got it beat. The guitar solo in that song is one of the best ever.

  • @NZtwister thats Ollie isnt it?

  • @NZtwister bliss

  • @NZtwister the dudes

  • Graham Brazier just rocks :)

  • Graham you were hot then, and prob still hot now....sigh!

  • best smack song ever

  • I don't usually like live versions but this is almost better than the studio version...Gotta love Graham Brazier!

  • Fuck this stuff is classic, maybe it's because this was the time people went to dances and shit in the weekends and the music was made in the spirit of the people, not just making music for reasons of vanity to make themselves famous like these kids that straighten their hair and pose for the fucking camera when they sing.

  • @AlfTheTroll im 15 Dont listen to the new stuff its all crap. Country and good nz music :P

  • yay! thanks for posting : P!

  • great song love hello sailor

  • Beautiful song, beautiful images, awesome energy. Fuck U all, We're all the same in 2009!

    Good Blue Lady x

  • i love this song...

although whenever i hear it i think about nz summer, christmas and outrageous fortune lol

  • sounds like a name for a prostitute to me... as little New Zealand doesn't have much of a problem with people injecting drugs...

  • learn about Mr. Asia

  • graham brazier is a god

  • That song reminds me of growing up in Auckland,

I must have been about 16 , and that was being thrashed on Radio Hauraki,

    Good memories.

  • Well, actually "blue lady" is a nickname for the lead singers barrell for his needle, which he used for HEROIN. Apparently it was a nice blueish glass barrell, and this songs a reference to his longing for it. Either way its an eFFn excellent song regardless of what its about and awesome singin. A TRUE KIWI BAND. cam230723 i suppose you listen to pussy cat dolls or rihanna if you say this isn't good singing, DUH

  • How long you gonna kick the can down the road? A BLUE LADY is just another street name for a...you know what...a top of the line A#1 hypodermic needle. And brand loyalty over in the Far East is huge not to mention in the blah, blah, blah...

  • too right.....who gives a fuck what its about

  • 1 of new zealands best bands of all time!!!

  • gay video, but fukn wicked new zealand song lol

  • Kia Ora. I do remember this clip. Wow takes you back. Thank U :)

  • This song is about drugs.

  • I think that maybe ur a twat cam230723

  • good song but the singer looks like a complete twat and has a dreadful voice.

  • How did you look in the 80's?

  • I just hate this song :(

  • I just love this song :)

  • Graham Brazier did a lot of drugs in his day.

  • so cool luv it i have look for this song for long as its so cool

  • the guitar player harry lyon is a teacher at the music school i go to! he's a pretty good dude. funny looking back at him when he's was younger! i wonder if he was hooked on the "blue lady"??

  • this song is alright its kool but i dont like it alot

  • good for you man.

  • lol..

  • In 70s & 80s NZ, a "Blue Lady" was a slang term for a small glass syringe - the pride and joy of any junky's possessions.

  • That's fine but, given the context of this song, it's obviously not that "Blue Lady" that he's referring to...

  • Fantastic

  • Love the harmonica

  • I still to this day play Hello Sailor in my Tattoo studio. PS do you have any Golden Harvest?

  • I believe this was written about a syringe.

  • This was a few years before my time, but I can't help but love that unique Kiwi sound, even now... brilliant.

  • pure kiwi 80s the music of my youth

  • Thx for uploading this!
