this song is about kevin martins father and omaha beach a war veteran who died at 81 its these people who are the reason you are speaking english right now thank god for all of the past and current soldiers
@desolategrey Newsflash for ya, you speak english because of British colonialism that came hear raping murdering, and pilliging the native population for raw materials. This land wasnt discovered it was conquered! Overcome your fear!
It's crazy how some people are. All this talk about Patriotism and stuff. If you don't understand what it is then you obviously don't have it and should just stfu. I don't like this war any more than the rest of us citizens, living day to day feeling safe and secure while others you try to disrespect don't have it so easy. God Bless Our Troops and Snipers! Come home safe most of us miss you no matter who you are.
@eta4287 you say "myself" fight for this country" I THANK YOU!
in less then 3 months my nephew (my sisters only child) will be deployed, she cries, what will i do without him,i will MISS HIM so much.
myself and all others should bow down and kiss all your asses who fight for our rights!
as for all you simple minded douche bags, please feel free to look into the eyes of the mothers and fathers of our kids who walk on enemy grounds to save your sorry ass! Tell me how you feel then.
no...jihad=struggle against injustice. We have been responsible for countless deaths in the region for decades. 9-11 has nothing to do with hatred against us...(come on, dont believe what they want you to believe). 9-11 was a reaction for our crimes in the past. We have committed an injustice, and they finally responded. It's that simple.
you know... after years of your parent being on active duty and numerous deployments...You just kinda get accustomed to them being gone, it feels normal for them not being there, and when they do come home for about 3 months its just strange
@Panther60JRM that makes me sad i hope my sons children never feel like that i hope theyre PROUD of him, its sad, have you ever told your parents? really that made me cry
The way I think of things is that I'm Pro-Soldier, Anti War...I completely understand why someone would feel the desire to "protect" their country and what not...I just don't agree with the fact that we are over there fighting for the rich mans oil fabricated as something completely different. ANYWAYZ Great song!! <3
Patriotism is loving you heritage and country and being proud of it, good or bad it is what it is and nobody should rag on anybody for love of anything
That is an awesome song. And i also have to agree with eta4287. If u really don't know much about this war because u are so simple mided that u don't even think to realize that one day ur little brother or sister could just up and leave because they either signed up or they were randomly selected, then either pay ur respects to this country or get the fuck out. if u really don't care for this country enough that u don't even know what the fucking war is about, u have every right to leave.
what a song ! when you care of someone you know or don't this is how it is . they fight for us to be free .candelbox is the best !!! this is the hardest working group there is !!!! candelbox is the most under rated band there is ! keven is the one to make this happen ! if you have ever lost anyone ,this tells the story ! my granddad is dying of cancer ,this is to him . candelbox rocks !!!!!!!!
This is jsut an awesome song. My dad's deployed right now in Iraq, my cousin is over there as well, my other cousin is a Marine and leaving for Basic in June, and my little brother wants to join the Air Force once he's old enough. I can't tell you how much this song speaks the words of Family and Soldiers. This is just a great song.
this song makes me think of that one friend that i screwed up with right before he left for afghanistan again. I cant seem to go a day without thinking of him. I miss him

war is not always evil and at times can be necessary . However, the wars we've been engaged in are pointless and are intentionally made not only to bring this country down, but to increase strife. It's not all black and white people.
War is an evil that pulls you to its blackness!!!...Remember that because It will change and you will never be the same (and not in a good way). This song was written for his father after he passed away..it was not written about a war, but that is what is great about music if you can find your own interpretation in a song that is great.
It's good that there are bands who pay respects and honors the soldiers, even now after so much improvement there is a lot of resentment to the soldiers. Some didn't have a choice but to enlist to further their career and take care of their families and they fight and die for their families, not just a young country. America is still the kid on the block learning its role and place and their giving it the time it needs. I wish there was better ways to do both, aid their families and country...
Fredom comes at a price - thats what gives it value - live your life with freedom to the fullest - have babies - be a parent - love your neighbor - dont sneak into America and think you deserve it
by the way, to all those who seem to relate to patriotism as a bad thing. as simply a human being, I appreciate american patriots, & israeli patriots, & portugese patriots, & indian patriots, & every man who's patriotism is derrived from ideas of freedom, rather than of hatred or religious jihad.
'cause what's so fucking bad about the will to make a sacrifice for your home, family and friends, and for their right to leave their lives peacefuly?
@ehudbarniv Nothing wrong with pride, man. But I saw that you used different nationalities to show the benefits of patriotism,so...why didn't you cited the Nazi Germany?
@eduardocwikla I'm sorry man, but I just can't get your point here...
the will to make a sacrifice for one's home, family and friends is called altroism, and it is the total oposite to any fascist ideology.
I don't know where you live, or how old you are, but the world is not made of only black or white.
being a patriot means loving your people and willing to compromise on some personal interests for it. it doesn't mean that you hate people of other nationalities.
@ehudbarniv as I said, I appreciate patriots of many nationalities.
as long as it is patriotism and not racism, and there's a huge difference.
and usually, whenever I got to talk to patriots of the nationalities I've mentioned, I found out that they had greater respect to other human beings than the non-patriots.
but perhaps you intended your reply to someone else's post anyway?
@ehudbarniv I understand you, man. But even a seemingly good thing can turn to a bad thing.I don't know if you remember, but the patriotism was one of the reasons that took Germany to the nazism.
The patriotic brain wash was used in Argentina too,in the 80's.
In a collective delusion, they fought against England, and had a humiliating defeat. But, and if had they won? We would see the dictatorship still standing today.
What I mean is that patriotism is not always good because it can lead to blind trials ... resembling the God who was in the Middle Age, and still is today in some countries. And this is what leads people to see the world in black and white
@eduardocwikla I think our little debate here is the result of gaps in the terminology.
when I say patriotism, and as I understood the term, I talk about loving one's nation, not about blindly hating others. the examples you gave are nothing I'd call patriotism. the nazis didn't love their nation. german jews were an important part of that nation. they've made a huge contribution to the cultural and intelectual features that have shaped germany of the late 19th-early20th century
@ehudbarniv and they died for their country in previous wars. so the nazis weren't patriots. they were racist psychopaths who brought nothing but distruction to their own country.
there's a huge difference between patritism and extreme nationalism. a patriot is first and foremost a human being. the extreme nationalist actually seems to hate others more than he loves his own nation. I will explain, using a quote I've recently heard:
@ehudbarniv golda meir, a former prime minister of Israel once said something like: "we could only have peace with our enemies when they start loving their own children more than they hate ours". in my opinion, the words she said, bring up the difference between a patriot and a racist man. the patriot, as I said, loves his nation. the fascist hates others.
as I toured europe last autumn, I had a few beers with some american soldiers who were about to be sent to iraq or afganistan...
@ehudbarniv for what I've noticed, they all seemed to love their country. non of them seemed to have special feelings of hatred towards the enemy they were about to fight. they were patriots, and although their nationality is different than mine, I appreciated them for that quality.
the willingness to sacrifice things for one's friend and family, is, I believe, one of the most noble trates one could have.
and other than that, I think we'd both agree that "miss you" is a beautiful song :-)
@eduardocwikla its not brainwashing its called hope something the german people didnt have due to the influx of jews running there country hitler is a hero to the white race now who stands up for whites hell most whites dont even stand up for whites u wana talk brain washing we as white people have been brainwashed to accept everyone and be ashamed of pur past through the jewish liberal media and liberal college profesors and dictatorship? lmao we live in a dictatorship
@paulguay2 Jihad is fanaticism, not patriotism. I think that is the correct definition to the idea you are attempting to portray. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your culture, religion, color, nationality. There is something wrong with killing people because of your hatred for others being any of thoses things, and that is fanaticism. And the saying goes; "Do not judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes". This will help people to understand what you are trying to say.
@ehudbarniv this song is originally dedicated to the memory of his father who passed away while recording the album, it has nothing to do (at least in the beginning) with patriotism war or other subject.
this does get to me. instead it makes me feel sorry for them. they think they're fighting for some noble cause (i.e. american way of life/values)when if fact that's just a crock of shit. it couldn't be more further from the truth.
the truth is they are simple people(no disrespect) who just don't know their country's role in this world. its sad because some of them die for a way of life that is not sustainable and not fair to the rest of the world.
you know whats sad... the fact that these people along with myself fight for this country so that you can speak the way you do... its unfortunate to that you are so uneducated.... you obviously know nothing about this war and i dont blame you for being so simple because you most likely just believe everything you here on the news or what your college professors say... open your eyes you simple minded douche bag and pay your respects to these soldiers or move out of my country asshole!!
@eta4287 dude i agree man. but im in the navy and i hate to tell you we fight for a diffrent cause obama and the illuminati and all are jewish run government
u know it dude. somethings wrong with the big pic..but not many see it. The next world war wont be between contries...it will be between classes. wake up "Americans"...the real enemy is within all borders.
Kevin's father was a WWII vet who stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day...every June 6th, he would call Kevin and tell him another story about that day or the war in general.
I'd say that makes the video pretty relevant...
Footage for the video was submitted by fans (of their loved ones that have passed on...are overseas...etc), at the band's request and assembled for this video.
It's got nothing to do with trying to milk patriotism for a hit.
Despite what the video may imply the muse for the song was Kevins father who has passed. Im not sure where the concept for the video came from. I think it actually waters down the true meaning of the song.
What a great song of one of my all-time favourite bands.
What a needless and shitty video. Hope they didn't think patriotism would bring back the success of the late 90s all over the world. Every art-student would have shot a better video. Makes me sad to see this...
Grokone... as both a Candlebox fan and and person in the military i thank them everytime i see them for both this video and song. i think it is awesome that a deeply personal song Kevin wrote for his father has touched so many people. Being in this community you often must say goodbye to your friends and family as part of the job. it is just nice that someone in this industry has recognized that done there part to say thank you.
Candlebox is amongst my 5 all time favorite bands. The NEWS of their reunion stroke me like hell last summer and it was the best thing i could ever expect. I always considered the potential of this band was extremely rare and it was so unfair especially for Kevin Martin to prematurely end their course so early in '98. I love their music and the vocals of KEVIN are amazing. I'm quite sure they'll stick together now for quite long after their amazing return. Very cool video...
Nicely done....most others would have done it for commercial gain or would have made an ant-war nonsense ballad in order to seem politically correct...This is not Candlebox...Candlebox is quite simply the best hard rock band in the last 20 years !They made this great song for all the right reasons..keep it up guys..and get to NYC at least 3-4 times a year...That is an order !!!!!
Thanks for using the pic of my Nana, you guys are class acts!!!! especially with a song so personal to you Kevin ...to share with your fans, means the world to me!!
I will be forever greatful for you guys using my pic of me and my dad in your video. You have always been my favorite band and now even more so! Thank you for making my year and for a great early Xmas present! ~Michele
your story's alive with hellos and goodbyes and bright lights, first kiss and drunken nights. how i miss you?

'cause what's so fucking bad about the will to make a sacrifice for your home, family and friends, and for their right to leave their lives peacefuly?
and again - what an awesome song! :-)

YOUR SO RIGHT
gurlloserevil1 2 years ago
@ehudbarniv Nothing wrong with pride, man. But I saw that you used different nationalities to show the benefits of patriotism,so...why didn't you cited the Nazi Germany?
eduardocwikla 1 year ago
@eduardocwikla I'm sorry man, but I just can't get your point here...
the will to make a sacrifice for one's home, family and friends is called altroism, and it is the total oposite to any fascist ideology.
I don't know where you live, or how old you are, but the world is not made of only black or white.
being a patriot means loving your people and willing to compromise on some personal interests for it. it doesn't mean that you hate people of other nationalities.
and as I said, ...
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@ehudbarniv as I said, I appreciate patriots of many nationalities.
as long as it is patriotism and not racism, and there's a huge difference.
and usually, whenever I got to talk to patriots of the nationalities I've mentioned, I found out that they had greater respect to other human beings than the non-patriots.
but perhaps you intended your reply to someone else's post anyway?
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@ehudbarniv I understand you, man. But even a seemingly good thing can turn to a bad thing.I don't know if you remember, but the patriotism was one of the reasons that took Germany to the nazism.
The patriotic brain wash was used in Argentina too,in the 80's.
In a collective delusion, they fought against England, and had a humiliating defeat. But, and if had they won? We would see the dictatorship still standing today.
eduardocwikla 1 year ago
@eduardocwikla
What I mean is that patriotism is not always good because it can lead to blind trials ... resembling the God who was in the Middle Age, and still is today in some countries. And this is what leads people to see the world in black and white
eduardocwikla 1 year ago
@eduardocwikla I think our little debate here is the result of gaps in the terminology.
when I say patriotism, and as I understood the term, I talk about loving one's nation, not about blindly hating others. the examples you gave are nothing I'd call patriotism. the nazis didn't love their nation. german jews were an important part of that nation. they've made a huge contribution to the cultural and intelectual features that have shaped germany of the late 19th-early20th century
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@ehudbarniv and they died for their country in previous wars. so the nazis weren't patriots. they were racist psychopaths who brought nothing but distruction to their own country.
there's a huge difference between patritism and extreme nationalism. a patriot is first and foremost a human being. the extreme nationalist actually seems to hate others more than he loves his own nation. I will explain, using a quote I've recently heard:
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@ehudbarniv golda meir, a former prime minister of Israel once said something like: "we could only have peace with our enemies when they start loving their own children more than they hate ours". in my opinion, the words she said, bring up the difference between a patriot and a racist man. the patriot, as I said, loves his nation. the fascist hates others.
as I toured europe last autumn, I had a few beers with some american soldiers who were about to be sent to iraq or afganistan...
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@ehudbarniv for what I've noticed, they all seemed to love their country. non of them seemed to have special feelings of hatred towards the enemy they were about to fight. they were patriots, and although their nationality is different than mine, I appreciated them for that quality.
the willingness to sacrifice things for one's friend and family, is, I believe, one of the most noble trates one could have.
and other than that, I think we'd both agree that "miss you" is a beautiful song :-)
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@eduardocwikla its not brainwashing its called hope something the german people didnt have due to the influx of jews running there country hitler is a hero to the white race now who stands up for whites hell most whites dont even stand up for whites u wana talk brain washing we as white people have been brainwashed to accept everyone and be ashamed of pur past through the jewish liberal media and liberal college profesors and dictatorship? lmao we live in a dictatorship

jihad =patriotism.
walk a mile in another's shows. have u been to these places? I doubt it.
paulguay2 1 year ago
@paulguay2
first, I think you didn't really get the meaning of patriotism.
other than that, I really don't get the point in what you were asking there... have I been to which places?
ehudbarniv 1 year ago
@paulguay2 Jihad is fanaticism, not patriotism. I think that is the correct definition to the idea you are attempting to portray. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your culture, religion, color, nationality. There is something wrong with killing people because of your hatred for others being any of thoses things, and that is fanaticism. And the saying goes; "Do not judge a man until you walk a mile in his shoes". This will help people to understand what you are trying to say.

@ehudbarniv this song is originally dedicated to the memory of his father who passed away while recording the album, it has nothing to do (at least in the beginning) with patriotism war or other subject.
rustycageandrun 1 year ago
@rustycageandrun wekk, the song does relate to his father's participation in D-day, am I right?
it's obviously about a person (his father) but it implies that this person was a patriot.
hence the video-clip they have chosen for this song...

this does get to me. instead it makes me feel sorry for them. they think they're fighting for some noble cause (i.e. american way of life/values)when if fact that's just a crock of shit. it couldn't be more further from the truth.
the truth is they are simple people(no disrespect) who just don't know their country's role in this world. its sad because some of them die for a way of life that is not sustainable and not fair to the rest of the world.
America is the fat kid in a Ethiopian cafeteria.
wojtek0000 2 years ago
you know whats sad... the fact that these people along with myself fight for this country so that you can speak the way you do... its unfortunate to that you are so uneducated.... you obviously know nothing about this war and i dont blame you for being so simple because you most likely just believe everything you here on the news or what your college professors say... open your eyes you simple minded douche bag and pay your respects to these soldiers or move out of my country asshole!!

@ captainzoloft1 and @ grokone:
Kevin's father was a WWII vet who stormed Omaha Beach on D-Day...every June 6th, he would call Kevin and tell him another story about that day or the war in general.
I'd say that makes the video pretty relevant...
Footage for the video was submitted by fans (of their loved ones that have passed on...are overseas...etc), at the band's request and assembled for this video.
It's got nothing to do with trying to milk patriotism for a hit.
amedia1 2 years ago
is one of the black&white photos on that video a photo of his father?
ehudbarniv 2 years ago
