I make what I want. Besides, this video wasn't even inspired by YKWBS and was thought out before that seried came out. I created this series to rant about misc. game related annoyances that didn' t warrant a full review.
i didnt even know there existed arcade games with out unlimited continues. why would someone pay 5 dollars(20 continues back in the early 90s) and then keep putting money in after you have to start from the beginning? It's like the developers didn't think about the fact that these games would be put in arcades with tons of other games. If a game made me start back from the beginning, I'd be like "fuck this! Im playin xmen or ninja turtles!!"
i played one of those games as a kid and pumped in a ton of quarters hoping that would be more than enough to beat the game. didnt factor in that i sucked and lost half the money i put into it when i got the "the end" screen
Haunted Castle was like that, too... but it makes Ghosts 'n Goblins look like cake difficulty-wise. (Meaning, such a hard game is especially not worth the credits)
Great rant and you know what I hate that too seriously What the hell I am paying for this game so I better get unlimitied continues especially piece's of shit like Athena ugh that game was bad.
What about Gradius III? I mean, what I didn't like about the gradius series is that when you die, you start back from the last checkpoint instead of continuing where you left off.
Btw, Gradius III for the arcade has no continues... and is actually much harder than Athena because of the tons of bullets and stuff flying at you constantly.
Well unfortunately it's all relative now- arcades have died out in a big way. Well, over here in the UK they have at least :( All I ever see in arcades I pass by now is a DDR machine, a light gun game (2 if you're lucky), a couple of racing games and the rest are gambling machines.
Arcades have died here in the US as well-the console and computer market have effectively killed them off outside of Chuck E Cheese and the like. We had two huge arcades in the mall here in Las Cruces, NM in the early 1990s; one closed down and is now a clothing store and the other has about half the games it once had and they are mostly *old* games form the late 1980s early 1990s
I think Arcades are the thing of the past nowadays. There are powerful handheld systems nowadays, and many people, including me, care more for beating the game than to get a high score.
Plus, old arcade games are just too old to be in the market. Today, many people are playing store bought games, and some are even making home brew games using some game engine software, some of which is even freeware.
oh it's in arcades, my mistake. I was thinking home console games of stuff that were in the arcades. I also think that's a dumb idea (like how double dragon you couldn't just continue from the same level if you ran out of lives), but in arcades, that's just awful. Well thanks for saying that ravagedwarrior.
Ninja Gaiden arcade single player also forces you to restart the whole fucking level again. To beat it on MAME, I had to use 2 player so I could keep trying to beat the bosses and normal guys who almost take off your entire life bar in one hit.
Actually, it had checkpoints. I remember playing this and was able to beat a boss. But then some small enemy killed me. And after I used a continue, I had to rekill the boss again.
Yes it did have checkpoints, but that last level man. You had to like friggin ironman it, or so it felt because if the thugs didn't kill you, the bosses forced you to restart and rekill them. If any of you are gonna bother beating it, just have an idle player 2 so you don't have to restart every damn time.
Very good. I SO agree., Unlimited continues is one the best staples in Arcades. That's why it makes them so good. Unless it's aspots game (that is not boxing), any arcade game that does not have unlimited continues is just not worth it.
Bad Dudes was like that too, 3 continues. At least my review showed you can get around once you make the bosses look stupid lol. Great video, made sense. The game is yours, you should be able to continue as many times as you want. Another reason I like save states with emulators.
hahaha, also another thing is that arcades I find nowadays cost 50 cents or higher to play, that's bullshit, they were 25 cents in that pass and they should have been kept that way, because that's what made the quarter such a cool coin
Your just coping AVGN's :you know whats bullshit"

They're trying to make you pump in all your quarters at the beggining. That way,if you make a mistake, you have to pay all over again.
