5881 tubes ....similar to 6L6, give a bit more power than the original 6V6s, though you need to adjust the voltages in the circuit to suit them. Yes, the older silverface amps sound much better than the re-issues. In the late 60s into the 70s, the small amps did not change circuits from blackface to silver, only the bigger amps suffered.

Nice tone. Not as good as your Bassman (this coming from a guy that only plays Fender BF/SF amps and wishes he had your BM). There is just something wonderful about an original tweed Bassman, although a mid-60's Super Reverb comes close.
