Wasn't this too early for Judy Bailey to be at TVNZ? She may have still been at South Pacific Television (which became TV2) then. But I may be wrong...it's been a while now!

not quite..it was tom mulgrew, a climbing companion of sir ed's, who's wife june went on to become sir ed's 2nd wife. his 1st wife died in a plane crash in the himalayas

i was studying for school cert, science the next day. still remember the radio saying the flight was overdue...then a few hours later that it could no longer be in the air as it would have run out of fuel...almost everyone in nz knew someone on that flight
